Hell, you don't even recall being close to the two other people with you a few minutes ago. Just chasing after strange calls echoing in the city when all three find yourselves here.
Your memories are fuzzy and dizzying. It doesn't help that the place in front of you serves nothing but to cause that worry to deepen; never-ending darkness as far as the eyes can see, only with a few strange lights following you around. Kaleidoscope fireflies?
What is this place?
There is near utter silence, which makes it even worse. Just as you think it's safe, you hear an unearthly cry in the far-off distance, safe enough if you stay here not to run into...you think.
Or you could do the hero thing and just go for it. As a team of three, you may be able to stand a chance to whatever is...out there...
[OOC: Additional instructions can be found in this post.]
Separated in this strange reality, the other three find themselves floating in a wide expanse of darkness. That is, until gigantic walls of fire and rock rise from the ground, trapping them in a kaleidoscope of wild colors, the floors twisting and turning until everything surrounds them.
A maze of some sort. And they are trapped in it.
They can hear voices beckoning them, accompanied with the laughter of demons. One rings louder than the others, however.
"You must choose one," it whispers above them. "Awaken and pick your first champion." But it's not like they have much of a choice, the truth is even if they have no idea what that even means, they can't exactly retreat their steps either. It looks like something needs to be done, but what are the consequences, and most importantly...why?
But seriously, the characters will not know what is happening until they start looking and moving around. The road to the boss isn't too long, but there might be clues along the way. To tag, reply in the tag's title what they are doing.
Also make sure you have your character's persona info up to date and link it here as a reply so I can easily access it. Thank you and have fun!
The team will attempt to go through the maze. Getting to the center has 4 pathways; each one with a sign of the zodiac: Taurus, Leo, Aquarius and Scorpio. Which direction you go will be directed by the next player in line. If there is a battle, it goes on until the demon is defeated, and then goes back to the next person choosing the next direction.
> Getting to the Aquarius exit means no monster at the end, but getting there is the longest. > Taurus and Scorpio have a medium-string boss and getting there is the medium time > Leo is the shortest path, but the monster guarding the exit is the strongest.
As usual, treasures, status effects, and beasts are hiding. The stronger, the boss the bigger the additional treasure.
The catch is that the number of tags this post takes will dictate how long the main battle has issues before they are able to dent the creature: if it takes six turns getting there, the monster will have a barrier up for those six turns, and the characters have to survive that. So pick carefully, and don't be too greedy! Your actions may change the course of the main battle...

Between the haze of what just happened and the blur in his memories that makes things so hard to comprehend, Souji had one priority before he took everything else into account: to make sure his impromptu companions were unharmed. He'd been searching through the city for whatever was causing time to basically cave in on itself, like it had this whole day, but he wasn't ready for suddenly showing up in complete darkness the way they just did. This was nothing like what a certain goddess did when he was in Inaba; there was something far more nefarious at work.
As soon as he feels that foggy feeling begin to clear up, he takes a deep breath and preemptively summons his frosty friend in the event that something jumps out at them from the shadows, glancing to Dirk and Atoli.
As they move forward, they notice that the colors begin to shift and turn, puddles in the walls oozing out until a few creatures stand in their way. With about ten of them, they don't look too much like trouble, but who know exactly why they are here.
"What are you doing? Humans aren't supposed to be here, gloup!"
Sarah...actually approves of this. Just to add some veracity to Atsuro's claim, she relaxes a little bit and allows her arm to transform back to its natural state, complete with scarlet-tipped black scales and large jagged spikes. She idly flexes the talons of her left hand as she nods sharply in agreement.
"Good response time and an appropriate level of caution when dealing with unknowns. Very nice."
Nano blinks in confusion at Atsuro's statement, but seems to catch on to what's happening here once Sarah chimes in. And even though she's a terrible liar herself and can't look the demons in the eye when she replies, Nano does her best to go along with things.
"...Yes! We're all very impressed. B-but, um, we need to test the whole maze."
The slimes look at each other, clearly confused. At first their little red eyes blinking at Atsuro, oohing and ahhin at Sarah's arms, and then moving behind the group to look at Nano's crank.
"New recruits? That doesn't really make much sense I thought this place was self-contained?..."
"And aren't we supposed to be the first row to protect the guardians, glop?"
"I always wondered about that! Why are we guarding a guardian? Does that make use guardian guardians?"
"...that's pretty deep, glup! Hey you!" The slimes surround the group. "Fellow not humans! We have a question for you!!"
Atsuro glances at Nano and Sarah briefly before launching into further logical and coherent explanations also known as total BS.
"Guardians need guardians to stop enemies from getting to them in the first place! And you've done a great job! We'll move on now to test the next set of guardians."
Dirk is up to his feet quickly, dusting himself off and glancing between Souji and Atoli.
"Yeah." He says distractedly. His brain is whirring with observations that rapidly turn into budding plans. Why is his head so foggy? There are few things so infuriatingly disorienting. One moment he's drawing on the roof (like he did yesterday and the day before after writing up a comp network post about the repetition), the next he's picking himself up off of the ground in the middle of who knows fucking where.
"You?" Dirk mutters a rap under his breath to get his katana out of his fetch modus and steels himself for whatever is to come.
Atsuro vaguely wonders how he managed to put so many points into Charisma without noticing it. Or maybe these guys were just a little on the clueless side.
"We're going for the shortest path, of course. Just like an enemy would try - to blitz to the end the fastest. That's where you need the tightest security, so... we'll test that first."
