There's a part of him that almost wants to say that she doesn't have to leave, but she has her brother to take care of, tease, and interrogate, as well as a handful of other things she needs to do in order to be able to write off her day as a productive one. And there's still something he needs to do. When she leaves, he'll be able to check if the suppressants are still there, and when he finds them gone, add their absence to the laundry list of things he has to take care of somehow. But that's something he'll deal with in his own time, during the short hours when he's not being bothered. It'll be something that will trouble him in the time he'll have on his own, in the hours when he tries to distract himself with the cookbooks on the shelf as he pretends he hasn't read through any of the silly animal ones that make him wonder if he ever actually grew up much at all.

He stares at her for a moment, nods, takes a step forward to make up for the one she's taken back. "Okay," he says, pressing a kiss to her forehead because he can. He thinks of making a rescue attempt, to wrest his hat from her grasp, but he thinks better of it and pulls away instead. "I'll be wanting that back later."

Don't make him come and get it.
