"I don't care," he managed, a hiccup following his statement. "I'm not going back in there. I don't want to be here. I want to leave."

He tucked his head down a bit lower, hiding his face briefly, trying to calm down. It wasn't working very well; he still had the hiccups, and his wings' feathers weren't settling any time too soon. If he heard the quiet sound of the TV in the room, he wasn't giving any indication of it. As he said, he didn't care.
