Summary: Yamato needs to get a life.

Yamato was not a man who appreciated the arts, yet here he was, in the Scorpio District, doing something rather...peculiar.

Seated on a bench on the main street of the arts and craft shops, Yamato had multiple bags of what appeared to be plastic cutlery resting on the bench beside him, the bag torn open - with two empty bags on the floor at his feet. However that would be easily overlooked for something else: the tens of Plastic Cutlery Dragons resting on every spare inch of the bench, and some on the floor. The exact number isn't precise, but it seemed like he made almost twenty five of those things...!

The twenty sixth was currently resting on his lap, having the finishing touches put to it.

He bent in closer to inspect the plastic dragon Yamato had just finished and poked a bit at one of the spoonscales.

"You've got some real talent here."

"It isn't difficult to do," Yamato said, picking up on of the cutlery bags and fishing some more material out of it. "You may have one, if you wish. I am only doing this to stave off boredom."

He supposed he couldn't take all of them back to his small apartment, but he couldn't exactly leave them here on the bench. That would be littering. Guess he would have to bin them later.

"Hmm, don't mind if I do."

That tiny apartment was looking pretty bare right now, after all.

"I'm surprised you can find a place like this boring, though. There's always a million things to do in a city this big."

"I am not fully aware of what activities you can do in a city," Yamato replied honestly.

He really didn't. He lived most of his life underground, and even then if he wasn't fighting demons he was running JP's. He very rarely left the underground base because of his work, and so was pretty much ignorant on what 'civilians' did for free time. Useless, pointless stuff, he had been told, and yet, they made some bizarre and impressive things...

Like takoyaki, or cakes. He wondered if all civilian food was so tasty.

"More used to the countryside? We'll let's see..."

Duo gave a look of intense concentration. "If you look around, you can usually find bands playing all over the place in clubs. There's also movies, arcades, bookstores, parks. Hell just looking around and seeing what there is is a good way to kill time. That's on top of any kind of work you've got to do. And looking at this place I don't doubt there's a lot of work to do."

Yamato blinked slowly. Bands? He vaguely remembered a 'club' being a place of recreational dancing, or something like that, although he didn't know what an 'arcade' was.

"I...see," he said slowly. "But you are mistaken. I do not come from the countryside. In any case," he frowned slightly, "Who are you? You failed to introduce yourself."

"Oh, sorry. Duo Maxwell, general handy-man."

He shifted his grip on the tabledragon so he could offer a handshake.

Yamato stared at the hand for a long moment. He disliked touching other people, but...

He reached out, taking Maxwell's hand with his own gloved one, offering a short yet strong handshake. "Yamato Hotsuin."

Duo had plenty of practice talking to people who clearly didn't really want to make conversation, and simply sat down at the table without asking if Yamato minded. "So where did you live, then?"

Yamato didn't show if he felt any irritation at Maxwell's friendliness. "...Japan. I don't know if the world you came from had it. If you are asking specifically, however, I lived within multiple headquarters across the country."

[maxwells_silver_scythe]

"Sure, yeah, I know Japan, though individual countries are less of a thing than they used to be. So you're a military guy?"

[drakenguard]

"No, although I worked closely with the SDF."

Worked closely? No, more like Yamato used them as extra cannon fodder to toss into the meat grinder. You needed some bodies to throw at the enemy, after all, and everyone was an expendable pawn. Even himself.

Yamato began carefully constructing another plastic dragon. After so many, he knew where to put what with nimble ease, and although the crafting had lost its mild amusement, the routine was somewhat mindnumbling nice.

"You said you were a general handy-man?"

He shrugged. He couldn't exactly say he was an ex-terrorist. This was easier.

"It's what I do these days, mostly. Fix stuff."

"Fix stuff," Yamato repeated, frowning down at the dragon. After a long pause, he put forth a question. "In your world, you stated that 'individual countries are less of a thing'? What does that mean?"

"It's more about the United Earth Sphere Alliance these days. The countries are still there, but they're more like states or provinces."

[drakenguard]

"I see. I presume that there is some form of authority that rules over a global scale, then?" Yamato asked, somewhat intrigued by this. Global rule was something almost impossible for his world - too many petty squabbles and bickering by the incompetents. How did Maxwell's achieve it?

[maxwells_silver_scythe]

"That's the idea. It was formed when Earth started feeling nervous about the colonies getting military power of their own."

Apparently this is an impromptu history lesson now.

[drakenguard]

"Colonies?" Yamato could feel the impending history lesson himself, and although he was a curious individual, he usually only learned information that would serve to be useful later in life. The history of some alternative world that he will never encounter did not constitute as important information to him.

"Actually, never mind. It isn't important to know."

[maxwells_silver_scythe]

"No, it probably isn't."

For all that he liked making introverts squirm, he had stuff to be doing, so he got up. "Well, lots to do. Nice meeting you."

[drakenguard]

"Hmm," Yamato just returned back to his crafting, seemingly happy with blocking out his new acquaintance's existence.
