Summary: Otoha is not great at feelings, but he attempts to share some.
Warnings: Normal swearing. Otoha's internalized uncomfortable feelings about homosexuality. Johnny flirting because Johnny. Stupid boys.


[It'd been two weeks. Two weeks since they'd rescued the others from that stupid underground fighting ring. Two weeks of Otoha trying to wrestle with the comments people had made while they were heading to rescue the others. It wasn't like they meant anything, right?]

[Right?]

[But he'd never been the best at figuring out even his own feelings. That just wasn't something that was done, or talked about, or even thought of. Even after a year in Vatheon and a while here, it was a hard habit to shake. Slowly though, he'd realized that he needed to talk to Johnny about this.]

[That's why he's knocking on Johnny's door, trying to get his attention.]

Johnny? Hey, Johnny. I need to talk to you about something.

[Two seconds into Otoha talking and the book was set aside and forgotten. This was probably, literally, the last thing he expected to hear. His mind buzzed with the words.

Slowly, he got off the bed and moved to where Otoha was standing.]

Otoha...you're not interfering with anything.

[He reached up to put a hand on the other man's cheek in an effort to encourage eye contact.]

I'm glad I help you feel like that...even if you run off and pull stupid stunts to try and protect me. And I-

[He paused as his words caught in his throat. He felt it, he knew he felt it, it had started in Vatheon and had only grown exponentially here, but they were words he hadn't said seriously in centuries. He hadn't even reached that level of comfort with Sola before that had crumbled.

And the fact that had crumbled almost made him want to run in the other direction. All of the very real emotions in Otoha's face and words made him want to turn tail or make some flighty joke to brush them off because they were scary.

What had happened with Sola had hurt, but the reason they had even fought wasn't something Otoha had a problem with. The other fear, the one that had kept him from getting close to anyone was still a possibility; Barry could show up and try to hurt Otoha. But they also weren't alone, there was a good possibility the demon wouldn't stand a chance against some of the people in the city, not to mention Otoha could take care of himself.

His other hand came up to rest on Otoha's other cheek and the smile he gave was small but genuine.]

...I love you too.

[Otoha wrapped an arm around Johnny's waist, pulling him close and just holding him. His heart was beating too fast, his hands were sweaty, but he leaned into Johnny's hand anyway, closing his eyes.]

I... I want to protect you. And... I can't imagine living without you. So... don't think I'm not serious. You're the one person I trust with my life, and I want to be worthy enough for you to trust me with yours. There's no one who knows me better... and while I don't know all of these feelings and I must seem like a kid to you, I'd like to hope I can mean something important enough to you.

[He opened his eyes again and leaned forward, pressing his lips to Johnny's forehead.]

I'm pretty sure you've heard most of the words I've ever spoken, heh.

[His eyes closed, the kiss sending warmth through him and he moved his arms to wrap behind Otoha's neck, allowing Johnny to kiss him on the cheek.]

I know you're serious...because you don't waste words on things you don't mean. Rest easy, I do trust you with my life, there's no question of worth.

You're very important to me as well, you know I would die for you...but how about, instead, we just promise to protect each other.

[A wry smile crossed his lips, but was chased away by a soft one soon after.]

As for that last part, you may be only a fraction of my age, but you're hardly a kid; you've been through more than a lot of people four times your age. Heh....and you'd be surprised how many things I haven't heard, certainly directed at me.

[He'd gotten proclamations of love from various misguided women over the years and a handful of men, but most of them he'd brushed off because it hadn't meant anything. Besides, those people likely wouldn't have said what they did if they'd known him. Otoha knew him and still accepted him and that was what mattered.]

I meant words I've said in my entire life. I used to barely talk. You'd be lucky to get two hundred words a month out of me.

[He sat down carefully so that he could still hold Johnny.]

Though I'm surprised you don't have more people chasing after you, even if you are kind of an ass.

[It's a term of endearment, okay.]

[It was one of many ways he expressed his affection: annoy and tease the shit out of the person in question every chance he got.]

I'm glad I've been able to hear what I have. I like your voice and I like your words because they come from your mind which you don't grant enough credit yourself. I want to hear more as often as you'll let me.

[He chuckled and patted Johnny on the back a little bit.]

There's not a lot of other people I'd say so many words to, anyway.

[He curled a bit more into Otoha's hold as something occurred to him to make him smile.]

Hmm...I suppose this means my bringing up the idea of taking a stage job at DeDeDe's should be postponed indefinitely.

[Although the thought had crossed his mind on occasion before, he mostly brought it up to tease; riling Otoha up would always be his favorite pastime.

[He snorted, and shrugged a bit.]

As long as you don't go home with them I don't really care. But I'll beat the shit out of anyone who tries to hurt you.

Otoha...not that I'm complaining, but what changed? You were pretty...hesitant on the whole thing, after all.

... It's kind of stupid. But... eh. When we were heading to rescue you guys everyone in my group thought we were dating. And... uh.

I started to think that maybe... that wouldn't be such a bad thing for people to think.

[He leaned up and pressed their lips together, his hold tightening a bit.]

Ah...Desco will have a field day.

[He chuckled into the kiss, practically clinging to Johnny. This was weird. He felt so weird. But it also felt right - at least the idea of being with Johnny. If it was him, it was okay. Right? Right.]
