With the issue still unresolved as the days passed by, the Visitors and the Guests of Geartopia were reaching a peak as more of them appeared from the time rifts. Morale could plummet, but the mayoress would never allow that.

Thankfully, the city itself was hospitable and welcoming to all. The villagers that composed it were a colorful cast, after all. Perhaps drowning your sorrows in booze and a night of dancing would be helpful. Don't worry about the kids... well, there aren't any age limits here after all (...wait...)!

The Thirsty Mare was a large building that could hold the entire town if it needed to do so. Carved out of wood from the nearby forest with the permission of the Ancient Spirits, it rose above Geartopia like a protective beacon. It was a new building as well, no older than ten years, thus new even to the heroes who had come here before. A symbol of the growing economy and peace all around them, it was half town hall, half tavern.

At night? Definitely a tavern.

Cages of fireflies are hung up in the air, as pieces of moss and leaves are strung decoratively against the large heavy trees forming the building's skeleton. Lighting is provided with gas lamps hung around and a gigantic crystal chandelier in the middle.

To the left, a bar seats a few patrons who get tired of dancing, serving drinks for all. Don't worry; it's on the house tonight. At the far off of the hall, a giant table had been prepped with food: entire turkeys, beans (everyone loves beans here, it's quite magical), rye bread, corn, apple pie and sugar pie.

And the alcohol is definitely felt tonight, as the musicians (two wolves and what looks like a bear) settle in and begin playing. Most serious work could be held off until tomorrow, after all.

For now, have some fun! Try not to get drunk too much, the Cactus Juice here is pretty potent...

[He's still doing fine! It was just a single swig, after all.

That might change as the night goes on, though.]

So it's the kind of thing you could live without, huh.

[It didn't seem that entertaining to him. He takes a few more bites of his dinner before continuing.]

How is it?

[Honestly:]

Stronger than I thought it would be.

Well you've never had it before, right?

[Just going to continue eating in between pauses in conversation.]

Well... Not cactus juice, no.

[He doesn't miss that implication at all.

He was traveling with his brother how long? Geez, bro.]

Try not to go overboard.

[Europe is a fine place to be.]

I don't plan on it. Really!

[That could lead to problems if he lost his senses enough to be caught by Yaiba...]

Good. [Exactly why Ayumu felt it needed to be said. He didn't want to play chaperone all night.]

I don't want to explain to your brother he has a sibling who hasn't been born yet.

[A sibling who looks exactly like him. Finally finishing his dinner and working on some of that pie.

Hm.]

That was my concern as well. It would probably over complicate things.

Although, I get the feeling he might already have an idea of my existence...

[He takes a thoughtful bite of his own food.]

He might.

[Then again.... with how long Hizumi had been here, and their resemblance....]

Some people might have mistook him for you just like I mistook you for him.

Because we look the same, right?

Even Kirie-chan would say that we have the same face. It was enough to prove to her that we're brothers.

[Of course, with the resemblance being so close...]

Exactly.

[He takes another bite of pie, before casually posing a question.]

Odd, isn't it?

[With his own brother as well. He wasn't sure if his brother looked as closely similar when he was his age, being too young to remember, but the resemblance had been commented on plenty of times, by Kirie included. Was it because of the scenario...?]

Hmm... I suppose it is. He died before I started forming many solid memories, so seeing him like this was surprising.

[Except that's not what Ayumu's asking.]

[No, it's not, but he isn't going to push it.]

My brother and I are the same. People always comment on how much we look alike. It got annoying fast.

It's a little scary how strong blood ties can run, isn't it?

[And so he finishes off his meal with a little less energy than usual.]

[He nods, continuing to eat in silence for a few moments.]

The pie is good.

[And back to the smiles!]

Everything here seems better than that first saloon, huh?

The food is better than I expected it to be.

[He scoops up the last piece of pie, taking a bite and chewing thoughtfully for a while with a pensive look.

There were complications, of course, but.... there were only benefits to gaining more time, if everything he'd heard was true.]

Hey. The way you got here from Hinoto-Ri.....

Hm? What about it?

You're going to be returning the same way, right?

[He places the fork down, leaning back in his chair slightly to look at Hizumi squarely and mentally noting the way his shoulder pulled unpleasantly. Still stiff, but he shouldn't need the crutch soon....]

Think a hitchhiker could get through?

[He doesn't elaborate, waiting for Hizumi's reaction. Sure, it sounded like another mess over there, but it didn't sound like it outweighed the benefits of extra time. Time to consider.... time to find solutions.]

[There's only a slight pause on Hizumi's end.

In a way, this could be considered welcoming death into your home, couldn't it? After all, displaced as he may have been, Hinoto-Ri was a place in which he could move about freely and, on occasion, leave his worries about his cursed genetics behind for a short while. And yet...

And yet...]

[He can't think of anything he could have wanted more.

The smile he gives Ayumu this time is definitely more genuine than before.]

I don't see why that would be an issue. There's no special requirement for being able to pass through the gate as far as I can tell.

Thinking of tagging along?

Yeah.

[He had some ideas forming. Not even ideas, really. But possibilities?

Maybe.] I don't see a reason why not.

[That Hizumi seemed happy about this was questionable in it's own right, but that was a subject he could broach another time. He had an idea of why already.] Hope you don't mind.

Well, like I said, I've mostly been killing time there. Having someone around who understands--

It's kind of a relief.

[And he's being completely honest, here. Ayumu should understand it just as well--

The fact that in all of their world, only Hizumi could fully understand Ayumu, just as Ayumu could only fully understand Hizumi.]

[He smiles a bit. He was starting to get that, just a little. They thought on a similar wavelength, didn't they?

His earlier desire to solve the problems of both the Blade Children and Hizumi hadn't changed, even if the situation had. And because of that, this place was a boon. It would buy him time.... and maybe more options.]

I'll try my best not to disappoint.

[As long as he could get through that gateway....]
