The Hakurei Miko's Duty [Backdated to December 20th]
Who: Reimu and Shadow Reimu, Open
Where: Aries District, The Arena
Summary: Reimu finally hunts down her Shadow and confronts her. Things don't go very well.
Warnings: The only reason Reimu is after her Shadow is because it's making people think she wants to do work. She is a lazy ass. Also probably there will be Fantasy Heaven.
[It takes far longer than Reimu is comfortable with, but she eventually tracks down the so called Hakurei Miko. It probably helped that the shadow had finally gotten around to actually looking for her herself. Now the two miko are standing face to face from across the field.
Reimu puts her hands on her hips and glares at her shadow.]
I finally found you, you imposter.
[Shadow Reimu smiles back cheerfully.]
Ah, I've been looking for you too! How lucky for us!
Ugh, whatever. What do you think you're doing anyway? Do you have any idea how much trouble you're causing me?
I'm just trying to help...
Well you need to stop! This isn't even Gensokyo. It's not like I'm obligated to help anyone around here. At this rate, everyone around is here is going to actually expect me to act like you! Do you know how bothersome it would be if everyone in this place started going around expecting me to actually get involved in their problems? It's bad enough I have to deal with that back home.
[Reimu, frankly, looks disgusted at the thought of having to do more work.]
That guy on that network thing said you "Shadows" are supposed to be things we've kept hidden, but there's no way that's true. I'm not secretly some warmhearted Good Girl type like Sanae, so what the hell are you?
I know this isn't Gensoukyo, but, I'm the Hakurei Miko. It's our duty to protect humans. This is the way everyone wants us to act.
[Reimu pauses at that, and the shadow continues.]
The Hakurei Miko is the one who holds Gensoukyo's fate in her hands. Her very life is tied directly to the Border that maintains it's very existence and her job is to keep balance between the humans and youkai who live there, by protecting humans and keeping the youkai from overstepping their boundaries. For that reason, the Hakurei Miko must remain impartial and put everyone else's needs before her own. Such a person is expected to be selfless and dedicated to her task, but...
[Shadow Reimu frowns, and for the first time looks rather sad and tired.]
...We've never really been able to live up to that, have we?
[After a moment, Reimu scowls and snorts, folding her arms across her chest.]
So what? I don't care what those idiots down at the village think about me. And what do you mean, "don't live up to it?" I do my job, don't I?

You've heard what they call us; Oni Miko, the Youkai-like Miko who's always lazy and never acts like she cares about anything. Who's friends are all Youkai or troublemakers. No wonder the shrine never gets any worshipers since we got the job.
Sh-shut up! I said I don't care! Like I just said, I do do my job after all! It's not my fault if they don't appreciate all the hard work I do.
"Hard work?" You do everything you can to avoid going out to resolve Incidents for as long as you can most of the time and we both know it.
[The Shadow sighs again and shakes her head.]
It's not that I blame you though. We were born for this just. We didn't chose it, but it is what we are and it's all we have.

It is though. It's not like you've actually ever let yourself even have friends.

She can't be seen as favoring one or the other or else she risks her judgment being compromised, or even just people thinking it's been compromised. Bad enough that so many Youkai come to the shrine without you acting like you actually don't mind, right?
