Skipping School?

Who: Yoshino rabbitintherain and OPEN
Where: Around the city.
Summary: Yoshino isn't aware that she should be going to school, and so she's wandering around the city trying to find something to do.

It had been over a month since Yoshino had arrived in Hinoto-Ri. When she'd first arrived, she'd been lost, confused, and very frightened. Now, well, not much has changed. She'd gotten somewhat used to her new surroundings, although it still seemed foreign to her without her friends nearby. She still missed them horribly. She'd hoped that maybe, just maybe, they'd been dragged here along with her, but if they had, she would have found them, or they would have found her by now.

If they did arrive, they'd probably be worried about her. Yoshino didn't know how to cook. So she spent her stipend on mostly junk food and well, whatever looked/smelled delicious. Probably not the healthiest way to live, but it worked. She hadn't spotted a lot of fun things to do around the city, either. She'd seen an arcade, but she couldn't really afford to play there.

She'd also seen kids going to school, like Shido did back home. Yoshino knew it was pretty much a daily thing, but she'd never really thought about it all that much. She hadn't been required to go to school or anything back in her world, and to be honest, she didn't know if she'd want to. Not everyone was as nice as Shido, Reine, or Tohka. But that didn't mean she couldn't watch students as they made their way to their different schools. Of course, she did her best to do so stealthily! Not that it works out too well. If she thinks she's been spotted, she'll scurry away, and she just might bump into someone if she's not paying attention.

[Yoshino thinks about it for a moment. You learned things at school? But she learned so much just from watching her friends. And of course, asking them about things she didn't know about.]

I...have friends...

[Even though there were only a few of them, it felt like a lot! Yoshino really didn't spend all that much time around other people.]

So you go to learn stuff and make friends? You don't have to go anywhere special to do that!

I'm sure you'd meet many more if you went! And it can be a lot of fun, too.

[Nano has strong feelings about school, okay.]

There's lots of other stuff that happens at school! Like sports competitions and festivals.

[Yoshino wouldn't know. Because her life after her powers were sealed was fairly sheltered. She was always under some kind of supervision in an attempt to make sure that she was safe.

The idea of more friends is kind of tempting, especially since none of her friends from home are here.]

...festivals?

That's right! The whole school will have a festival day in the spring where every class gets to put together a different attraction or food stall to help raise money for class trips and things. There are cafes and haunted houses and stuffed animal shops and lots of exciting things!

[rabbitintherain]

[That sounded...kind of fun, she supposed, although the haunted house part sounded scary. Yoshino didn't like scary things. She'd never been to a festival before, though.]

That sounds kinda neat, but that can't be all school's about.

[She's considering it. Somewhat. Maybe.]

Is...is it...scary?

It was, a little. Just at first. But school is full of very nice people, and I'm sure you'll meet lots of new friends who make you feel welcome there, just like I did.

[Nano smiles, holding out her non-puppeted hand to Yoshino.]

And you'll have me, at least!

I don't like scary things...

[Yoshino glances down at the ground for a moment. A lot of new things were exciting. But the idea of being around so many people in a closed space is not one she relishes.]

I...will?

[all_wound_up]

It's just getting used to something new. You'll be fine!

[Nano nods, still smiling brightly.]

Mmhmm! I'll help you.

[rabbitintherain]

What about...Yoshinon?

Can she come too?

[all_wound_up]

Of course she can!

[rabbitintherain]

You're...sure?

Yeah, we've gotta stick together!

[all_wound_up]

I don't think anyone will have a problem with it.

If they do, just let us know! We'll help out!

[Next, Yoshino just looks to Yoshinon. She'd tell her if it was okay.]

Yoshinon...can I...go?

If you really want to go, that's your choice. I'm not going to stop you. It can't hurt to check it out though.

I can help you get enrolled in classes. We can even be in the same homeroom together!

Are there...a lot of classes?

[all_wound_up]

Not that many. You'll be surprised at how fast it goes by!

[It was easy, then? That sounded kind of promising.]

[all_wound_up]

I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Actually...

[Convenient timing on that question, Yoshino. The morning bells have started to ring, and the gate is closing.]

...oh no! We're late!

[Yoshino is now getting the authentic Japanese high school experience as Nano grabs her hand without thinking and starts to run toward the school.]

[rabbitintherain]

...?

[Yoshino gives Nano a curious look as she starts to speak. Late for what? She's never been on any sort of schedule before, so she really wouldn't understand.

But then she's being dragged along.]

Why...are we running?

[all_wound_up]

Because the gate's closing!

[Nano points in front of them.]

[rabbitintherain]

Oh. You can't....you can't be teleported in?

[It's very convenient! But then again, maybe not everyone had access to something like that like the Fraxinus did.]

[all_wound_up]

No, you have to walk!

[Or run, as the case may be. Nano tugs Yoshino through just before the gate finishes closing, and then promptly half-collapses, hands on her knees as she catches her breath.]

[rabbitintherain]

[Yoshino doesn't collapse, but she does just sort of stand there, watching. See, this is why teleporting and flying is so much more convenient. It's less tiring.]

Are you...okay?

You're already exhausted after that little bit of running?

[all_wound_up]

I-I'm fine...

[rabbitintherain]

...didn't you...say we were late?

[all_wound_up]

Yes! Follow me, I'll take you to my class. We'll tell the teacher you're a new student.

[rabbitintherain]

Okay.

[And although she said that, the look on her face was obviously one of worry.]

[all_wound_up]

It'll be all right, Yoshino-san. I promise!

[rabbitintherain]

You...promise?

[Be warned, that's not something to throw around lightly. Yoshino is pretty emotionally fragile. If it doesn't turn out alright, she'll feel that Nano lied to her.]

[all_wound_up]

Mmhmm. Don't worry. If you have any problems, I'll be there with you.

[Nano intends to actively keep this promise. Her friends are very important to her.]

[rabbitintherain]

[Yoshino hesitates a moment, but nods. Okay. She'll just have to trust Nano. Shido had held true to his promise, so there was no reason Nano wouldn't go through with hers.]
