     It only made sense to him that if he was expected to fight and protect others in this city, then he had better figure out if there were any differences in doing battle here. The most obvious way to go about it was to experience it firsthand, even though he was sure that his guild members would have objected to his doing so alone.

     Still, Soujirou wouldn't be able to deny the slight thrill he felt in preparing to venture out at night. Even though he probably appeared oddly dressed in his full battle equipment, he was comfortable in it, as he felt a Level 90 Samurai should be. He had no problems walking around like this, especially given that Adventurers already had a much better stamina than they would have had in the Old World.

     He wasn't even sure he'd find anything around this Ward, and it wasn't as though the guide that Kotoha had shown him had said much about demons other than that they were around this mysterious "13th Hour." He doubted they had particular respawn points...

     Pausing, Soujirou had to laugh at himself as he realized he was slipping into game-thinking again. He tapped a knuckle against his head with a sigh. "I guess even with the surroundings being so different, I still can't help but think I'm in a game," he said to himself, glancing down at his gear with a muted smile.

     Not a second later, the easy expression had faded as he tensed, his hand slipping to one of the two katana sheathed at either side of his waist. Was that a noise, just now? The skies had long since turned that strange if not disturbing shade of red. At the very least, the samurai knew he wasn't the only one out here.

He is, indeed, not the only one out here - there is a tiny floating demon girl happily gnawing on the corpse of some kind of insectoid demon. As she sees Soujirou, she hastily wipes away shards of chitin and some kind of mysterious blue goo from her mouth with the palm of her red-skinned hand before waving cheerfully.

"Hello, subject! Queen Desco bids you Dark Greetings!"

     Well, the source of that sound he'd heard seems friendly enough. Soujirou relaxes a bit, turning in the girl's direction as he's greeted.

     No, not normal by way of appearance, but then what in this world is normal? He smiles in response, offering a bow.

     "Good evening, Queen Desco, is it? Soujirou Seta, at your service," he replies.

Desco tilts her head and stares at Soujirou curiously.

"Of course you are at Desco's service. She is the Queen of Hinoto-Ri, after all!"

     "Are you? I had no idea that this city had that kind of a hierarchy. So does that mean you've always lived here?" he asks, almost mimicking Desco's gesture as he looks curiously at her in turn.

[tyrantball]

"Nope! Desco is from Hades! Last year, she fulfilled her life's purpose of conquering the Earth, and she has made Hinoto-Ri her capital city."

[swordsaintseta]

     "Wow, really?" Now, does she mean Hades Hades or just some world called Hades? It's a little confusing to think about. She has horns, so that might explain it. "Eh, but she's cute for a demon..." he murmurs to himself, stroking his chin.

     "And you said you conquered Earth? You must be really powerful then! How long have you been here, Desco? Ah, or should I call you Queen Desco?"

[tyrantball]

Despite the length of her ears, Desco has human-normal hearing, so she doesn't hear that first part. So instead she just strikes a pose and looks proud.

"Hmhmhmhm! Desco is level 9999! And Desco is a tyrannical overlord of the people, so she won't insist on being addressed as Queen Desco - unless you really want to, anyway!"

     For a moment, Soujirou has to gape at that. He's clearly stunned to hear such a claim, and doesn't seem to question it in the least.

     "-uwah!! Level 9999??! That's amazing! And I thought being at Level 90 was something- not that we can even go beyond Level 100 with the new expansion but still! Awesome! Desco, that's so cool!"

[tyrantball]

Desco grins with shark-like teeth.

"Hmhmhmhm! Desco accepts your praise with the proud and dignified grandeur of a Final Boss!"

     The samurai chuckles a little. "Desco makes a cute final boss!" he says, smiling. "So, I guess you've been around this city for a while?" Maybe she can tell him a thing or two about the demons they're supposed to be fighting around here. Hopefully she isn't one of them, because if she's Level 9999, then he figures he probably wouldn't last very long.

Nod nod nod.

"Yes! Desco has been here for over a year! She has even had a character arc that ended in upgrading her Persona!"

     Over a year... He wonders what the longest is that anyone's been here for. It's always sobering for him to think about being apart from his guild friends for so long.

     Still, Soujirou's smile is genuine as he nods, listening to Desco. He folds his arms. "Ah, that sounds great! I haven't really gotten to talk to anyone much about these Personas yet, but they sound pretty interesting."

[tyrantball]

"Desco's first Persona was Dragonlord, the original Final Boss!"

A blue glow surrounds her as she summons her current Persona.

"But now it is Yog Sothoth, the key and the gate!"

     He stares as the thing materializes, not really sure what to say about it. "Uwah... It's certainly impressive!" If not kind of creepy? "Did it change from the first one you had, or is it completely different?"

[phantom_envoy]

"Hunting?"

A voice sounds from above his head, and something quickly drops to the ground nearby. A girl wearing a strange costume gives him a sidelong glance.

"Nice get-up. Can you really run around in all of that?"

[tyrantball]

"Dragonlord exploded into Yog-Sothoth! It looked really cool!"

Slight pause.

"Desco can sense the presence of weak mobs nearby! Would you like to go grinding with her?"

     Blinking, the samurai glances around before he turns to look over at the girl who hadn't been there moments before. She'd just been above him, right? Wow, this place is amazing! There are even people that can fly!

     "Yes, that was the plan, anyway," he says, smiling brightly as he nods. "Thank you though- I can move just fine!"

     "It did? Wow..." It looks like it hasn't finished exploding, but who's he to judge?

     The young samurai tilts his head inquiringly as Desco pauses then. "-eh? You can?" he asks once she speaks again, breaking into a grin at the invitation that follows.

     "Sure! Please lead the way!"

[phantom_envoy]

"If you're sure."

Phantom Girl gives a slight shrug.

"I haven't seen you about before. I thought I knew most of the people who do this kind of thing - are you a new guy or do you just suddenly feel like training more?"

[tyrantball]

Desco nods enthusiastically as she summons forth her tentacles, assuming her battle form.

"Yes! When Dragonlord became Yog-Sothoth, Desco switched over to a Support-type Persona user!"

As they turn the corner, the pair is greeted with a pack of fierce-looking monsters. Desco floats to the side a little and makes a gesture of invitation.

"Feel free to go first!"

     "Very sure!"

     So far he hasn't noticed any difference from moving around here and in Elder Tale, so that's a good sign, so far as he's concerned! He shouldn't have any problems fighting either, at this rate, but then that's what he's out here for.

     "I'm fairly new to the city, so you're right in that assumption. My name is Soujirou Seta." He bows politely.

[phantom_envoy]

"I'm Phantom Girl. It's nice to meet you."

She performs a graceful curtsy in return.

"Is this your first-first time, then? Or have you tried it once or twice before?"

[swordsaintseta]

     There's only a slight moment's hesitation as he watches Desco grow some extra appendages. Well, to each their own? "Support type...so Personas can even change in that way..."

     Soujirou follows along, stopping short once their targets in question are visible. "Huh, these guys look pretty ugly," he murmurs, but he draws his blade, smirking a little. He nods, settling into a familiar stance.

     "All right then, here I go!"

     Darting forward, he decides to start right down the middle. He's a tank, after all, so it's out of habit that he acts to gain their attention, greeting the foremost of the pack of ogretails with a broad but powerful slash.

     "It's nice to meet you too," Soujirou replies with a nod. "This is the first time I'm going out like this. I figure I should figure out what I can and can't do before I get into any real trouble. Can you tell me what I should expect out here, at this hour?"

[tyrantball]

The Ogretails split as Soujirou dashes in - the ones he slashes jumping forward to engage, while the rest jump back and prepare to shower the Visitors with a barrage of tail spikes.

"Primal Force!"

Desco aimed the attack at one of the Ogretails in the back, blowing a hole straight through it. What's left of the monster - legs, tail, small portions of torso - totters unsteadily before falling over and dissolving into black goo that quickly evaporates.
