Jack and the Mysterious Domed City

Jack did not initially move or open his eyes after he awoke. He merely listened. Wind blowing through trees, distant sounds of cars and industry, the sounds of massed humanity. Probably in a park somewhere. Odd, as that was not where he had gone to sleep.

He sat up, looking around in confusion. He was indeed in a park of some kind with the city proper only a stone's throw away. No giant billboards proclaiming Aku the ruler of the city, that was a good sign, but he still didn't feel safe.

No matter, for now his first course of action was figuring out where he was. He wandered through the streets of Hinoto-Ri, trying to get his bearings. This city was indeed strange, but it was not the strangest he had seen by far.

So for now, you all have a white robed figure with a straw hat and a sword wandering around looking very reserved and faintly confused.

Is that a samurai? ...that's totally a samurai, isn't it?

Nick pauses as he walks out the store, watching the man pass. It seems like he's not the only one either. He's not really sure WHY he's staring, since he's sure he's seen worse, but...

Hmm. Someone that out of place has to be another Persona user. He walks up to him. "Uh, excuse me, are you a new arrival?" he asks.

The samurai stopped a moment before Nick spoke.

"I do not know. I do not even know what city this is."

He scratches his head. "No explanations, huh..." He looks around. "This is Hinoto-Ri. I guess they've been doing a sort of multiversal recruitment drive against the forces of darkness or... something." He looks at him. "Mind, I haven't exactly figured out what their hiring criteria is besides 'you have the potential to summon strange things from your head,' but I suppose a samurai fits the bill as much as anything." He looks at him. "Assuming that's what you are, I mean."

The space marine watches the samurai wander.

Nothing is said at all. This is the best ting that could possibly happen.

Much of the barrage of ideas and terminology was largely lost on someone who still thinks of cars as "chariots". He latched onto the bits he did understand.

"Forces of darkness? Are you under attack here?"

There's no way he would miss the feeling of a warrior of this caliber watching him. The samurai stopped in the middle of the street for a moment. A crowd of people broke the space marine's line of sight for but a moment, but when they pass the street was empty.

"Seems like it. Partly demons, partly human groups. I don't know the full details yet." He nudges his glasses up. "It's been pretty calm since I've been here, but I hear it gets nuts around midnight. There's supposed to be something called the '13th hour,' apparently."

He's not much of a talker apparently, but he seems to be thinking all this over.

He shrugs. "Well, I'm sure you'll get your bearings sooner or later. I'm Nick, by the way. Nicholas Reeve." He holds a hand out to shake, only realizing a moment later he's not sure that's a precisely universal gesture.

He started to bow, saw the handshake, paused awkwardly for a moment, than returned the handshake.

"They call me Jack."

"Not the sorta name I would've expected from an old-fashioned looking guy like you, but a name's a name." He shakes, then nods. "Anyway, does this mean you don't have any rooming information yet?"

[back_to_the_past]

Rooming information? "I'm afraid I will not be staying here that long. I will help with what I can, but I have my own goals I must see to."

The space marine takes to heights shortly thereafter, seemingly climbing buildings and scenting the air, trying to catch another glimpse of the self-possessed swordsman.

He's damn hard to chase. It'd take some kind of superhuman to manage it.

Unfortunately that's what his pursuer was. And so their encounter happened on a rooftop instead of in the street. Jack, realizing he couldn't escape this warrior, stood with his hand on his sheathed sword, waiting.

The silent wolf lands, his own hand at the hilt of a huge, toothed blade. He stalks around him for a moment, and then nods, holding his arms over his chest in a gesture of peace, while still looking hueg and tough.

"I'm... noooot sure it's that easy," he replies. "Well, actually I'm not entirely sure of much at all. I think I could probably direct you to people who have a better grasp on it than me, but..." He shakes his head. "I don't know how easy it is to leave.

[back_to_the_past]

This Tableau was maintained for a surprisingly long time. Eventually the samurai broke the silence.

"Why are you following me?"

[back_to_the_past]

"You mean I am stuck here?"

[ghost_shield]

"Could be. If it makes you feel better, I don't know if time runs the same way. There's a decent chance whenever what we have to do is done, you'll just show up back where you started." A theory, perhaps, but he hopes it's reassuring.

"Because you interest me. You carry yourself like a warrior born. Most here are at best trained."

He looms in a bit.

"Also, your appearance, and that of your blade reminds me of the White Scars.... just a bit. Mostly the blade."

[back_to_the_past]

"You mean, as long as I am here time does not pass in the outside world?"

[ghost_shield]

"I don't think 'outside' world is the right term for it. 'Other world,' maybe. But yeah, that's what I think." He pauses. "I could be wrong, but thinking too hard about it could end up stressing you out."

[back_to_the_past]

He's not a bounty hunter, is he? They get everywhere, like cockroaches. "I'm afraid I do not know who these White Scars are, and I have no love of strangers chasing me across rooftops."

[back_to_the_past]

"No, please. This is important. If they can return me to the exact moment I left, could they return me to some time before I left?"

"H-huh? Well, I don't know about THAT..." That wasn't what he was expecting.
