Who: Minato and Naoya
Where: Pisces 7-05
Summary: Minato takes his mp3 player to the doctor for healing. I mean Naoya for repairs.
Warnings: Naoya is a warning unto himself. ;)
After Naoya's kind offer, Minato gathers his things and pulls his mp3 player out of the rice he was keeping it in just in case and heads on up stairs to Naoya's apartment. And there he double checks the name plate before knocking on the door and waiting.


Who: Minato and Ruri
Where: Ruri's spaceship, the Battleship Nadesico
Summary: And once his mp3 players is fixed, he comes by to see Ruri's spaceship and show it to her.
Warnings: None?
A couple days later, Minato has a repaired mp3 player in hand, and it seems a good time to take Ruri up on her offer. So, hands in pockets and headphones on his ears, he heads over to the park where the spaceship is, well... parked. He's not really sure if he should knock or what, but he heads on over to what he presumes is the entrance.

Naoya opens the door, his mostly empty room visible behind him. Really, he'd seen no need to decorate, aside from getting some books from the library.

"Ah. There you are. Come on in, this probably shouldn't take long."

Minato hardly minds the lack of decorations. He hasn't done much with his apartment either, too used to moving around to consider it particularly worth it. But either way he nods politely as he enters and pulls out the cylindrical player.

"Mm. Thank you."

"In all likelihood it's just a short, though I'll have to open it up to see." He indicates for Minato to sit, and holds out his hand for the MP3 player.

"If that's the case, I'll just have to put a new wire in, and maybe another resistor."

Minato does as he is bid, handing over the player and taking a seat. He nods at Naoya's explanation, happy to at least know what the parts he's talking about are.

"Do whatever you need to."

But he doesn't space out, instead watching with as much interest as he ever seems to muster.

He sits as well, and pulls open the battery cover, and then carefully pulls it out, looking inside.

"Hmm... yes, it looks like you just shorted it. You're lucky that the damage seems to be minimal. I think I have something I can take apart and use for a replacement."

Minato is definitely relieved to hear that and eh relaxes just a little.

"Ah - thank you so much. Is... there anything you'd like in payment?"

He thinks for a moment about that. Someone his age isn't likely to have much money to spare, so...

"Just a recommendation if someone else has a problem like this. I've been looking for a job, so that eventually I can open up my own store, so more business or leads would be helpful."

He could just go and get a job at one of the local computer shops, but too many of the owners grate on his nerves.

Minato nods. "Of course. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for opportunities."

[Ruri was outside, sitting in the sun with 3 holographic monitors floating in front of her, watching a TV show, looking over video she took of demons and monitoring something sciency as she yawned slightly]

And then I was late as usual

[ Seeing her outside, Minato heads on over and when he thinks he's in her eyeline, he pulls a hand out of his pocket and lifts in greeting before pulling his headphones off. ]

Hey, Ruri-san. [ When she looks over, he lifts the mp3 player off his chest for a moment. ] It's fixed.

Ah no worries really! Life is weird that way!

[She looks over and nods, the screens vanishing]

Hello. I'm glad to hear your music system is fixed, being without technology you are accustomed to can be... Bothersome.

Yes it is, alas.

[ He blinks at the abrupt vanishing of the screens, but he supposes if she's got a space ship, there's no reason not to have screens that appear and disappear. ]

Mm, that it is. ... have you settled in here all right?

[ He glances up at the spaceship, since it's on topic. A spaceship and the rest of this city are not at all the same technology. ]

[She looks around and shrugs a bit]

The Nadesico is mostly self sufficient and I can handle most of the systems with out a crew as long as I run one at a time. But for the most part she's grounded and will remain so. Other than that and... Well... The magic thing I guess so. People are the same I guess.

[She shrugs again slightly]

For the most part...? What would you need to get her off the ground?

Well, I can pilot her slowly, and have her hover while I switch to weapons control. The thing is the Nadesico has a crew compliment of over 200, and about 40 of those are flight staff. Spread through three shifts with days off generally that means a minimum of 10 people on those duties at any given time between helm and engineering.

Oh I see... That would make flying it problematic.

... do you think you'll be able to find people to help pilot it again here?

[ He'll eventually remember that he was supposed to show her his mp3 player. He's still pretty distracted by that spaceship. ]

I'm working on AI upgrades to tracking and navigation to allow full movement right now, as for a crew, I have no idea. Given her normal crew was kind of thrown together from available specialists its possible but given the tech levels here it isn't terribly probable.

I see... well, I guess you never know who might show up here. I hope you can get it mobile soon.

I only know a couple people besides you who are good with technology, though...

Yes, I seem to be towards the far end of the tech curve. That being said I don't know a thing about the persona here and am a bit intimidated by it.

Really? ... do you have any particular questions about it? I might be able to help there...

[Ruri looks down and shakes her head]

I just am... My persona is someone who left too soon.

Oh... I see. [ That's... a difficult situation. And he's not quite sure the best way to work with a persona like that. But... he wants to help her all the same. ]

Someone you looked up to?

The captain of the first Nadesico and one of the first people to see me as a person.

I see... [ That would definitely be a reason to be intimidated by your persona, but... ]

Personas are a part of us. A part of our minds and souls that exists to protect us. I bet your mind uses that person because they feel safe or they represent something very important to you.

[Ruri's deadpan cracks a bit as she looks down]

That's almost worse. It may be silly but ever since the explosion I've dremt that Yurika and Akito survived. I guess it just bothered me because she seemed like a ghost, but its just me.

... I see. I don't think it's silly. I'm sorry...

[ Thinking of it that way, he understands somewhat. And he thinks... if his persona had been his sister or -- someone else he'd been close to and lost as his persona when he'd first summoned instead of Orpheus... ]

"Thank you."

Ruri lets out a breath and just stares at her feet.

"Still, if its me, I guess that's something."

He nods. And after a moment, he puts a hand on her shoulder gently, meaning it as a comforting gesture, even if he knows that it's hardly something that will make up for.

"It's okay if it takes time to get used to it and process it. If ... there's anything I can do to help... please let me know."

"I just never quite expected to go crazy this way."

"I don't think you've gone crazy."

"Gone? No. I guess it more has to do with the history of the Nadesico."

"What do you mean?"

He's a little confused, but... he wants to see Ruri feeling better, if that's possible.

"Mr. Prospector once told me that the Nadesico was the most advanced ship of its time, and its mission was too important to trust to the military because they wouldn't be concerned with what he was. Officially it was with what Nergal was concerned with, but he was a good person. Because of this the Nadesico's first crew were technically the best in their fields, but generally considered unhireable because they were mostly half insane at worst, or horrible unsocialized at best."
