2nd Word: Searching

Who: Atoli and Ruri Hoshino

Summary: Atoli gets herself checked for stray wireless signals and also has questions about Persona

Somehow, despite saying that she'd be "over there soon", it still took a month for her to actually get to the previously mentioned battleship. Granted, the zodiacally-aligned arachnid attack didn't help with that.

Of course, the Nadesico being what it is, she is a little bit scared to knock... even if she can't find the door. Atoli just quickly sends a ~~short mail~~ private message to the ship's owner saying that yes, she's actually come today.

Ruri peers over at the message then looks out scanning to see where she is according to the ships cameras. Letting out a breath she starts down for the hangar deck.

Outside, a spotlight over Atoli flips on, bathing her area in light as there is a clang and a large ramp slowly starts to open in front of her. As it hits the ground with a light thud several lights over it turn on leading into the cavernous belly of the ship.

Atoli can't help but feel intimidated as the ramp extends, and the feeling only gets stronger as she walks up it.

By the time she's inside the ship, she's practically shaking.

Ruri walks out of the shadows, several monitors behind her obscuring everything but her outline.

"Are you all right?"

"Oh, I'm fine... Just a little scared is all. I'm sorry it took so long for me to get here..."

Her words kind of spill out, with the occasional microstutter.

"Scared?"

The lights come on all the way, and while its a big hangar area, its painted in bright friendly colors and is mostly empty save 2 sealed robot areas and a cart of diagnostic computers behind Ruri.

"It's just that your ship is a little intimidating, is all... I'll get over it soon."

And once the room was engulfed in light, she calmed down rather visibly, accompanied by a medium-loud sigh.

"Normally its much livelier, I just was keeping the lights that weren't in use off to conserve power."

"Anyway, I obviously don't really know my way around your ship, so if you wouldn't mind..."

She kind of wants to get this over with soon.

"Certainly. I've set up in the cafeteria. Its generally the most normal place we have here."

Those two words 'most normal' are at the same time relieving and a little worrying. She didn't want to have to spend any more time here than was absolutely necessary.

"Right, lead the way!"

Ruri leads the way to what looks to be a high school cafeteria with a TV playing some goofy anime that looks like it was animated in the 1970's on it. The kitchen is visible, clean and empty and one of the tables has the chairs taken off of it and arranged to be sat in.

"Have a seat. I don't cook well enough to entertain so I can only offer water but make yourself comfortable."

The choice of decor hammers in the surreality of Atoli's situation, making her too distracted to notice the TV. Which is just as well, because that comment about cooking catches her attention.

"I don't think I'm quite that good at cooking but I can probably make something for myself, if you're okay with that."

It would probably be best to ask.

"If you like, and if you think it would help you feel a bit more at ease. I sometimes forget how different my upbringing has been from everyone else."

"Thank you! Well then..."

Time to search for ingredients. Beef, rice... hmm, there's just enough here to scrape up a decent beef bowl. Atoli gets to work with the knife while she boils the water for the rice.

Ruri quietly sits there, taking readings from the other girl as she cooks.

"There used to be a rather impressive spice rack but the chef responsible for it isn't here so it really just has soy sauce on it."

"That's fine. I don't think I'll need anything other than that right now."

Any readings not coming from her COMP itself seem to be absent. Whatever happened, it's clear that she's not transmitting or receiving any signals herself.

"Hrm..."

Ruri lets out a breath and starts looking at the various life scans from her systems.

"Did you fall asleep while playing your game before you appeared here?"

"...Actually, I think I blacked out. And whatever was going on was very unusual..."

She pauses for a moment, then refocuses on getting the beef a nice, even brown.

"I'm not seeing any data signals coming from you. So perhaps it has to do with how you were brought here? I've done some game coding but I've never really immersed myself in one fully so I can't say if that would have some sort of effect on the process. Especially since I don't know much of how we all were brought here."

She lets out a small sigh and flips open a few more screens, looking over the lack of any useful data.

"I'm sorry I couldn't be any help..."

She's done cooking, but now it doesn't feel right.

"Don't be. I was the one trying to help you. Hrm, there are some theories I have bot many of them are psychological and may be based on the persona themselves. I don't think you'd want to be bored with unproven theory or conjecture."

"So you think you might be able to tell me more once I have my Persona?"

Who knows how long that might take.

"Its possible, I don't understand much about the persona though. Perhaps they could tell you at the velvet room when that opens."

"I'm afraid I haven't heard of anything like that..."

"Keep your eye opened for news of the velvet room door opening. Persona seem to come from there so perhaps they would have some more understanding of the mystic bits of your transition instead of the purely technological."

"All right then, I can do that. Thank you..." she said, bowing.

"I really am sorry I couldn't be of more help, just magic is something that doesn't exist where I'm from and its caused no end of trouble in my analysis of things."

"I think it would be hard to take into account even if you were used to it, honestly..."

"You are probably right. Thank you. Still, you aren't uncomfortable like that, are you?"

"No, not really..."

She closes her eyes. Even if she will get answers later, this still hurts.

"All right. I'll keep going over what I found, and if you get any more information you wish to share I'll add that to what I have. I can't promise anything other than I'll give it my best."

"...All right. Thank you, Ruri."

Having done what she'd come for, she turned to leave.
