Who: Shas'la Kais and Garviel Loken

When: 13th hour December 4th/5th
Summary: Two frienemies who hate having personas team up to fight demons because it's all they're good at.
Warnings: Shooting stuff???


While Garviel may not know much about the Tau, Kais certainly had first hand experience at dealing with Space Marines. More specifically, the Ultramarines and the Raptors. But during his time with the Ultramarines, they shoved a small vox unit inside Kais' helmet so he could stay in contact with the Ultramarine Captain. It was still there now and Kais had an inkling of how it worked. Oh, he could talk to Garviel via the method everyone used but this way, he felt a little superior. Using human tech to keep in contact with Garviel gave Kais the initiative.

Of course, he was standing here with the Space Marine but talking silently always gave an advantage in combat.

The vox crackled loudly as Kais tried to find a proper frequency. His subconscious imprinting helped him with this task, grabbing an open frequency. As he spoke, he looked up at the giant human, barely standing up to his stomach as it was. His voice was washed out by the vox but intelligible enough.

"Can you hear me, gue'la? I still don't have a hold on your technology."

"Closing."

Loken will creep up on it, reversing the grip on his combat blade. He's apparently been learning stealth somewhere, that or the modified mark VI plate he was issued with is just that good for muffling sound. If it is in fact a demon, he'll stop short 15 meters away and whisper.

"Target acquired, engage at will."

It was one and Kais got the order. But he wasn't in a position to take a shot since he lacked grenades. So he held his fire and ran to a better point for targeting. He was worried Garviel would kill it before he even got into a position for take down.

Loken hurtles into the demon, only to find multiples, and he almost barks over the comm, the sound of his combat knife ripping through the air audible even over his voice, "Several targets. I'll bait them out. Prepare to engage."

"Understood!"

He drops to his knee, the oversized pauldron pointing toward where the enemies would be and pulse rifle steadied against that pauldron. It was the typical Firewarrior stance and his finger tightened on the activation stud, waiting for enemies to come out after Garviel.

Garviel dances back, smashing one with his fist, and slicing the claws off another as he retreats into Kais' line of sight, giving him plenty of time and opportunity to fire.

The second a creature came into view, he opened up with his rifle. He honestly wasn't worried about hitting Garviel with the plasma fire since it seemed that only concentrated pulse rifle fire did more damage than scratching the paint on Space Marine armor.

But his software in his armor was accurate and he began to peg demons as they moved into sight, giving them some distraction from chasing Garviel.

Loken raises his bolter, adding mass reactive blasts to the conflagration. It doesn't take long between their combined fire for the demons, and thus silence, to fall. He stands, quiet, the only sound him swapping his magazine out.

Kais does the same, swapping out power cells in his weapon, a slight whine happening when the fresh one goes in.

"I wish I had grenades."

If only to kill things more efficiently.

That brings Loken up short for a moment, and he queries the xeno-breed, "You mean you cannot procure them here?"

[greatergone]

"I didn't have any on me when I arrived. I also lacked much of my weapons." Including one that could reliably kill Space Marines, but that was diplomatically left out.

[greyerrant]

"We'll do what we can with what we have. Onward."

He continues to scale mictlan, shifting to a one-handed grip on his bolter and sheathing his combat knife.

Kais sticks behind him, keeping more of his back turned toward the Space Marine. He's just watching the rear while walking backwards, not a difficult task for the trained and experienced. Somehow, he doubted that Space Marines really indulged in this kind of movement order, seeing as they were walking tanks.

"We're almost to the halls." He clings to the ledge, and offers Kais a hand up so he can sorta scramble over the space marine onto the top of a cave.

He takes it, seeing as he honestly does need the help, and pulls himself up to the top.

"....my thanks." It was given grudgingly.

[greyerrant]

"Pay it back by slaying daemons. I need no thanks."

He growls, as he hauls himself, and resituates his bolter into a two-handed grip, stalking forward with surprisingly quiet strides.

If that's what he wants, Kais would oblige. But in the meantime, he doesn't like being in debt. So he presses a few emblems on his wrist and the floating drone scoots ahead to be in front of the two, just in case there's a surprise attack.

Loken gapes at the drone for a fraction of a second, then nods. It makes sense to send in expendable assets first, like a servitor or a bombardment. Still, it hurts his pride a bit to see it skimming ahead, and he doesn't give it too wide a berth.

He had his own internal laugh. "You seem as if you've never seen a shield drone. I suppose gue'las who have never mastered plasma technology wouldn't have gotten that far."

Never pick up a human plasma gun. That was one thing drilled into his subconscious memory.

He considers rising to the baiting words, and opens his mouth, then shakes his head, targeting daemonspoor up ahead.

"More targets. We should move to engage and clear the halls."

[greatergone]

"I'll continue to be cover."

He wasn't throwing Garviel to the dogs. He was simply realizing that a Space Marine was probably better at storming things than he was. Better at melee combat too, seeing as Kais lacked anything on that front.

Loken storms in with murderous intent, dashing demons against the close walls with shoulder rushes where he could, but always leaving clear fire lanes as he waded into the fight for Shas to suppress or terminate targets as he wished.
