Two Guys, a Girl, and a Date

Summary: Aki asks Minato to distract Miki while him, Shinjiro (and Minako because she'll find a way anyway) snoop around her apartment for Christmas presents. But have they found more than they bargained for?

[MIKI'S APARTMENT]
Well Minato was true to his word, and Miki is currently not here and will not be for a good while. She thankfully has left the air conditioner running since the weather is unusually hot outside and...a bunch of stuff streamed on her bed. It seems that she had been trying on a bunch of clothing to pick the right one, then grabbed what she needed. It wasn't a mess, but there were things scattered around and left in a hurry. Not like anyone would come into her apartment, right?

Right.

[DATE]
Miki is still confused as to what is happening. Why did she accept in the first place? Well...she has an idea, but she isn't sure how she feels about that at all. Regardless, she had spent way too much time wasting to pick out an outfit that fit the weather and wasn't too casual or too fancy, considering they'd be going swimming at one point, but finally settled on a simple shirt and a jean skirt. Her backpack had everything she needs for later.

As a bonus that allows her easy movement should anything happen! ...If they should get attacked. A Sanada was never unprepared, after all.

Meeting Minato outside, she gives him a wave. It is...still rather unreal to talk with the Arisato and realizing it's not the one who monologues about how the entire world sucked and how death was the only thing unifying all of them.

"Sorry about the wait! I'm ready!" She is...surprisingly cheerful?

He smiles a little at that and thanks her as he goes on through. It's nice to see her more relaxed, now.

"Do you suppose the weather will ever stabilize?" he asks as they make their way out the front door and into the scorching heat of this Pyro Jack winter day.

"I hope so..." She let out a small sigh at the situation in general, before removing her outer shirt and tying it around her waist. "I wish we actually knew what was causing it so we could do our thing."

You know, the hero thing.

"I've always been a fan of hot weather, but this is ridiculous. I already put on some sunscreen but I have no idea how long that will hold out..."

"Perhaps we'll see some clues while we're out. As for sunscreen, there's no reason more can't be put on later."

Note his careful use of passive voice and avoidance of being specific about who would put it on. He would have liked to be the one to put it on, but there would be no telling if Miki would want help putting it on her back and shoulders or not.

"That's true." Did she mean the clues or the sunscreen?

Actually, she does do her best to ignore that comment ignore that comment. For reasons.

Reasons. In fact she was going to change the subject right now.

"Hey, how do you feel about riding the skyway instead of using the subway system? I tried it for the first time last week and it was pretty exciting! It's a bit like floating over the city..."

"I'd like that. I haven't had a chance to try it yet."

Floating over the city sounds lovely. Exciting and possibly oddly peaceful, being a little remote from the streets...

"You haven't?! Well what are we waiting for?" The excitement in her voice was hard to miss as she waves for him to follow her with her left hand, the other tightly holding on to her bag as she runs a few blocks to where one of the stations is positioned.

The line was small, and wait limited. Most of the populace had opted to stay inside during the last few days, due to the ever-changing weather. Only a few braver souls enjoyed going out in this weather. At least there was some air conditioning once they got inside. The clear windows make it easier to see.

"Greetings and welcome to the Air Tramway! We are pleased to have you on board! Please be careful as we..." the female voice continues to greet them as the door opens, and they walk in.

"I think that's Ciel's voice!" Miki mentions to him. "I didn't realize this at first, but I think she was partly responsible for the system. It makes sense that they'd use her for the voices too." As she pays for both their tickets, they are ushered into seats. A few minutes later, the system takes off, moving along the wire like a combination of an elevator and...probably magic of some kind.

"I always find that my ears tend to pop. You might have to yawn once we get to the very top and start moving forward instead of up and down."

Minato hurries after her, intrigued by both her descriptions and her enthusiasm. And yes, the air conditioning is a small blessing, though he pays little attention to it, instead gazing around at the building and the tram they will be riding. He thanks her for buying his ticket and then proceeds to peer out the window, watching them take off. He does, however, glance back at her at the mention of ears popping and nods.

"Have you ridden on this a lot?"

"Just a few times so far actually," she admitted. "But I'm a fast learner. The price isn't too bad, considering there's a lot less people than in the subway."

She took the time to look outside too, just as they got to the top and started to move forward.

"You know...I have to admit I find the city really pretty from this view. It's so much bigger than I thought it would be."

"It is very pretty up here," he murmurs in agreement, smiling. "It is surprisingly big... I forget that, sometimes, with the teleports and the subway..."
