Who: Avitus (OC) and .hack's Sora (unohana_hat)
Where: Pisces 11-02
Summary: Avitus and Sora got to talking on a network post, about chopsticks and food, and one thing led to another. Specifically, to the burdie going to Sora's house to try showing him how to cook a few foods, a la Nosgoth style.
Warnings: Clueless burdpire attempting to cook, and whatever might be applicable due to Sora being present? (none afaik)

Avitus fastened his watch-comm-thing to his coinpurse's string, gathered his bags, his tote with a few things inside it, put on his cloak-thing and boots, and headed out. After stopping at a grocery store for a few items, he continued on to the apartment buildings in Pisces.

Sora would hear a knock on his door after not too long a wait; his private tutor-to-be guest had arrived!

Not quite so big; he had his wings tucked in, at the moment, and wasn't standing up near Sora's height right now. But compared to some of the winged demons, he was absolutely huge. They'd be able to get to talking about their homeworlds while eating, surely. It wasn't like the burd was going anywhere, for now.

"We can do the rolls first." A little nod, and Avitus pulled the little package of dry yeast out of the other things still half in the bag on the counter. He looked over the recipe printed on it. "It looks like we'll need a big bowl to mix this up in... so if you can get that out, and... a cup and a spoon...?" He frowned faintly, thinking about that, but continued on. "You said you had things to do this with, so I only brought the ingredients themselves."

"Cups..?"

Sora took the package from Avitus, scanning the directions. They had the ingredients listed both in cups and tablespoons and grams. Putting the package down, Sora dug around in his cupboards to look for measuring cups and a large bowl. Surely the kitchen had to be fully stocked, right..?

Yep, found them. Sora dumped them on the counter with a clatter, looking toward Avitus.

"Alright chief, what's first?"

He totally didn't jump a little at the noise. Shh. Ignore the wing feathers' subtle floof, too; it's barely there.

"Well... the recipe says it'll make two loaves, but we only need about enough dough for half of one, I'd imagine... so...." A moment of quiet consideration, and he led Sora through the recipe, at about a fourth the scale it actually suggested.

By the time that was done, Sora had a nice little lump of bread dough in the bowl, and it was time to let it rise, right?

And there wasn't a huge mess on the counter?

"So a fourth, got it."

He may only be a grade school kid, but he knew that much at least. Measuring out the ingredients wasn't too hard: just halve and halve again and presto! Being smart at school was paying off, if only a little.

Sora put a dishcloth over the bowl for the bread to rise, and stepped back to see what the next plan of attack was. There was flour scattered on the counter and stuff, but nothing a bit of hot water wouldn't fix, right? Sora got a sponge to soap away the mess.

"What's next?"

"Well, if the ingredients you want to stuff the rolls with are already prepared, I suppose we'd need only to wait on the dough to rise. So... perhaps if the wheat cereal is made, you can have that for dinner in the meanwhile? And if the rolls take too long, you could always have them tomorrow."

He watched as Sora cleaned up, quiet, taking a small half-step back from the counter, presumably so he just wasn't in the way.

Probably a good idea: the kitchen wasn't all too large, even if Sora found it suited to his needs well enough. Besides, he liked accomplishing things on his own. Made him feel independent. He's always wanted to try living on his own! Even if it was harder than it looked...

"Should we cook anything beforehand, or will it all bake together?"

There's nothing worse than raw onions, yuck!

"Um... I... don't know, to be honest. I haven't made them before. I saw them about in the Citadel often enough, I suppose, but I didn't think to ask anyone how to do it, since I... can't eat them myself.

"Still, I can't imagine it would hurt to cook something before putting it into the dough to bake." He glanced over at the fridge, considering it.

Sora thought for a moment, then shrugged, getting a cutting board, knife, and the food out.

"Couldn't hurt. I think I'll just cook stuff like the onions partway first and leave the other stuff to bake."

Funny how someone so quick with offensive blades had to go more slowly with a kitchen knife. With the way his fingertips are poking out instead of being tucked it, it's clear he hasn't cooked much before.

Avitus nodded, and watched, mostly quiet, as Sora did that. He didn't have enough experience with slicing up food to know how to properly hold it either, so he couldn't save him the trouble on that count, unfortunately.

But he found the whole thing interesting; he watched the small show Sora was putting on by doing this, taking in the smells of it (and it was so strong! Perhaps not to humans, but he could smell it!) and the sound of the knife through the foods, taking note of what Sora did with what.... Sad as it was, Sora seemed to be the one re-teaching him, at the moment. He wasn't joking when he'd said he'd last worked in a kitchen helping with the food ages ago. The faint smile disappeared for a subtle frown of intent thought, as he watched. Something about the whole process tugged faintly at some memory, but it was ancient and long-forgotten, uncooperative now after all this time.

Vaguely nice, still, though. Even after the details, the conscious information, had ceased cooperating in coming to mind, the comfort associated with it was still there, and before long at all, he was making some sound under his breath, a melodic little liquid burble, a gentle coo that was barely audible, soft as it was within him.

Once the food was cut, Sora got out a frying pan to cook the onions, sniffing as he flicked on the overhead fan. His eyes weren't as watery since the onions were cold, but they still stung from the juices. This was something he was more comfortable with doing, since there was no trick to it.

Without looking up, Sora made sure to let Avi in on the process.

"Can you look at what the oven should be preheated to?"

"Hm?" He blinked, the soft coos stopping, and looked up to Sora briefly. "Oh... oh, right."

Time to reach over and snag the little package the yeast had come in. "It says... two hundred C. ...I assume you know what the C means? But it also says it'll have to sit there for about an hour, and then get kneaded again, and then rise another hour after that." He frowned a little at the package's recipe. "So you won't need to make the oven hot for it just yet."
