Summary: Kazuya promised to learn how to cook with Nanako, and Yu is their teacher. Can also be seen as that time Nanako let a Demon King into the house. Surprise, Big Bro!

Demon Kings didn't have to cook. They normally had their demonic minions sort that out, and considering that Kazuya's diet was a mix of psychic vampirism and mortal food, it was a difficult thing to cook for.

And yet here he was, going to a cooking lesson due to a young human girl.

Kazuya had only accepted the cookery offer on a whim, not having seriously thought it would be taken up on - so he had been understandably surprised when he was called back, a few weeks after the offer by the precocious young Nanako, to confirm that their cookery lesson by Big Bro (or Thor, as Kazuya still called him) was still on!

Just in time too, as apparently their house was back, but not the dad, and a proper kitchen or something - Kazuya got kind of confused at that point.

So it was on one sunny afternoon that the King of Bel, Kazuya Minegishi - without the cape for once (it would probably be detrimental in the kitchen) - stood on the doorstep to Nanako and Yu's home, loudly knocking on the door.

[As usual, Nanako was absorbed in the TV around the time that Kazuya knocked. But hearing it makes her instantly stand up and run towards the foyer. When she passes Yu, she stops.]

Can I get the door, Big Bro?

[Even though her Dad had given her permission again, back home.... She still ends up asking.]

[Yu glanced at the door, on his usual comfortable pillow, narrowing his eyes a bit. He wasn't entirely sure about this...]

Sure...

[But he gets up behind Nanako, hovering behind her protectively. Sister complex? What sister complex?]

[Kazuya slips his hands into his pockets while he waits, rocking back and forth on his heels when-

The door opens, and Kazuya smiles in greeting, giving who he guessed was 'Big Bro' behind Nanako a quick look before directing his pleasant expression to the young girl. Big Bro was stern-faced and tall. Hoo boy.]

Hey, Nanako! Hope I'm not late or anything.

[greaterdays]

[Yes, stern and tall much like Thor...

Nanako smiles brightly.] No! You're right on time.

[She then moves out of the way, allowing Kazuya room to enter the foyer where they keep the shoes.] Come in!

[Yu gave a small nod of acknowledgement, the obvious, "You try anything with my sister there won't be anything left of you afterwards," clearly displayed on his face.]

Welcome.

[Kazuya's smile was obviously fixed when he looked at 'Big Bro'. G-Geeze! Looking at him like he was some creep! Was this how Naoya felt every time Kazuya suspected him of being up to one of his schemes?]

You're, uh, Yu, right?

[May as well try to ease the tension...]

That's right.

[Ha ha. Tension? What tension? There's no tension here? Only the kind of atmosphere you would expect when your little sister invites a Demon King into the house.]

[...okay, so yeah, it's a little tense. Yu forced out a breath, trying to at least give this kid a chance; besides, Nanako needed more friends that at least looked close to her age.]

Would you like to get started right away?

[But Yu, Kaz looks close to YOUR age...]

Yeah, let's get started! I'm hungry already.

[belfire]

You heard the lady, let's get cookin'!

[Well tense or not, Kazuya wasn't about to let it get to him. He was here to hang around with Nanako and learn the fine art of poaching eggs, and if it means he gets a few glares from an overprotective brother, then he could deal!]

[...dammit, icons make him look younger.]

[Yu gave a nod, heading over to the kitchen, when he paused. He had... no idea what they wanted to make. Awkward.]

What did you want to learn?

[greaterdays]

We want to poach eggs.

[not that hard, right, Yu? She can already do sunny-side-up...]

That's it. Egg poaching.

[Kazuya was smirking a little, linking his fingers together in front of him in a rather devious way]

Maybe some cake baking as well. You can't have a cookery lesson without cakes, right?

We'll see.

[At least poaching eggs is pretty easy; Yu grabbed the eggs from the fridge and a pot from the cabinets, absently spinning it in his hand before setting it on the stove. He went back in the cabinets for a measuring cup, before beginning to explain as he filled the cup with water.]

You want to fill the pot at least two thirds of the way, and let that boil, but not to the point where it's bubbling out...

Two thirds, but not bubbling. [Fractions aren't Nanako's strong point yet but she can grasp that concept well enough.] Okay! Then what?

[There better be cakes Yu >:Y

Kazuya hovered behind Nanako, watching attentively as Yu got to work. He made a small grunting noise to show he heard, fiddling with the wire coming from his headphones]

So what, like you're gonna hardboil it?

Something like that.

[He paused as the water slowly started to warm, nudging Nanako's step stool over to her so she could see what he was doing and getting one last item: a little bowl for the eggs. He waited until the water started to boil, before turning back the heat, letting the boiling settle down to a simmer, explaining what he was doing as he went.]

[Once that was done, he took up an egg, cupping it in his hand.]

You want to crack open then egg, but without destroying the yolk.

[He demonstrated, carefully cracking open the egg and letting the yolk inside slip out easily.

Oh...!

[That's interesting.] Like when you put an egg in ramen?

[belfire]

[Kazuya grimaced. Man, he sucked at cracking eggs. It always turned into a horrible goopy mess whenever he tried]

Is there an easy way to do that? I'm so cra- bad, at cracking eggs.

[Swift self-censoring! Awyis]

Yeah, kind of like that.

[He raised an eyebrow at Kazuya, a little amused.]

They do have devices that can crack eggs, but it's a good idea to learn how to do it yourself so you don't accidentally break the yolk.

[Yu turned back to the pot, using a spoon to stir the water a little to cool it, before slipping the egg yolk inside. With that poaching, he took up another egg, before motioning to Kazuyua to come over.]

I know how to crack eggs!

[She's perfected that much, at least. Can't leave shell bits in her big bro's breakfasts.] Can I help, Big Bro?

[belfire]

[Darn it. Kazuya obediently scooted closer, peering curiously as Yu worked, before glancing at Nanako with a grin]

Aw really? Hey, maybe you can teach me later, Nanako-sensei.

[Don't bet on that. Stop smiling at his sister like that.]

[Yu's expression seemed blander than usual, and he motioned for Kazuya's hand. Fork it over, he's going to teach you how to do this.]

[greaterdays]

'Sensei...?'

[She actually likes the sound of that.] It's not hard. You just have to be careful!

[Aw, no precocious girl teaching him? Kazuya mock-pouted, but obediently held out his hand for Yu to manhandle]

Be careful, huh? Let's see if your big bro helps.

[Manhandle what?]

Here, like this.

[Yu moved behind Kazuya, cupping his hand in his and placing an egg in it, guiding him on how to hold it. He grabbed the bowl, bracing it against the table, and guided his hand in gently tapping the egg against the lip, increasing the force each time.]

One... two... three... and...

[The last tap cracked the egg, the contents spilling into the bowl.]
