The silent wolf is a hurt wolf.

Who: Garviel and you
Where: Aquarius ward, Later Saggitarius ward
Summary: Garviel works with Day care, and is generally hugenormous. Later on, he gets mistreated by the citizens of Hinoto-Ri
Warnings: Introspection

Within a day care in Aquarius ward, an 8 foot tall giant, in roughly-made white clothes and still scarred from battle, white and pink markings all over his face, livid and clear is functioning as a sort of human jungle gym. Children climb his legs and are lifted up in his arms, as the warrior serves humanity in quite a different way from his normal warlike work. He fusses over the children as they scamper away, or try to play games with him, his expression always somewhat distant, grey eyes very unreadable even as he gently makes sure everyone is safe and well cared for, sometimes carrying one, two, or even three children in his arms at one time to make sure they are safe and don't run off from the day care. He doesn't react poorly to having blocks thrown at him, or little children crawling all over him, he just faces it with the same stoicism that he faced everything else, from monster to the great daemon Nyarlathotep. It is all to the same to Loken.

Later on, he arms and armors himself once more, and walks in the Sagittarius district, seemingly looking for something even in his wargear, as if stalking a ghost of some sort. Where the children of Hinoto-Ri accept their huge protector and playmate without fear or resentment, this is not the case for the adults, hurrying away in terror of the war-machine, or pelting him with stones, or whatever else they have at him. Whispered words of "monsters", other similar comments are snapped at him, and he trudges on in a silent patrol, a vigil no-one cares about as he prepares to hunt demons. He walks on through it all, his shoulders slightly hunched forward as if in a storm, completely immune to anything they can manage with blade or gun, but hurt somewhat by their words. He has always wondered if he is monster or man, and these other men, these people he has chosen to protect, for whom he struggles to be pure, to keep his honor intact, have rejected him.

She hesitates. "I'll count that as professional." Though technically, he has killed her, once before...

"I knew you, before. A version of you, at least. He went by the name Garviel Loken, and he could still trust. I see so much of him in you. He'd defend humanity in the same-" And then one of the various bold-feeling groups of thugs flung a half-full can of soda at her, not him. It reflected off her line shield, but the liquid still splashed against her white armor as it bounced off.

"...tch!" She stopped, she pivoted, she glared... and then set her jaw and ignored them, despite the anger rising within her. If Garviel could withstand it, then she could, too. No matter how unfair and infuriating it felt.

He died. But he was standing right here... whatever happened, if it was enough to destroy the Garviel that she knew, then... what could it be? Garviel could persevere through anything. Anything. This was impossible. She frowned, and for a change she didn't avert her gaze from the intimidating glare of those red eyeslits.

"I can't believe that. Garviel Loken is unstoppable. He may be wounded, he may be held back, he may be erased... but he can't die."

Her glassy-gold eyes are starting to water.

It takes several long moments for Dakki to respond to that. "I see." And it's a flat response, revealing nothing, for she's still letting that information sink in.

Betrayal. He was betrayed, because the one he trusted put his faith in the darkness. Hadn't she almost done that? Thrown in with the Illuminus? Hadn't Nyarlathotep said as much when he wore her face, in the middle of the maze? By that standard, perhaps he had no real reason to trust her. But no, that can't be, that's not what she wants, that's wrong, it's all wrong... Throughout all this, she hasn't gone out of step with him and hasn't left his side. They've reached an intersection by the time she speaks again.

"On my homeworld, I fought the darkness. The SEED. Creatures from the depths of space that mutate and destroy everything they touch. Anywhere else that I've gone, I've tried to do the same thing. I plan to do the same while I'm here. I imagine you want to do the same?" She pauses for a moment, waiting for a confirmation of some sort from him. Whether one comes or not, she continues. "If you can't trust me as a friend, can you trust in me enough that we can fight alongside each other?"

That would be enough. Maybe it was too much to hope for, but that would be enough. To fight alongside someone was its own meaningful thing, parallel and comparable to friendship, as she saw it.

That's not the answer that she wanted. But perhaps it's a better answer than she deserves, when gauging her hopes against this Garviel's standards. "I can accept that."

And she seems as though she's about to say something else. Would he end her, if she did suddenly become a threat? No, that didn't even need to be asked for. That could be assumed. So she simply made a sharp sound of exhalation, looked away, and pivoted in preparation to cross to the other side of the road.

"Thank you for speaking with me. I won't bother you any more."

"Goodbye, Cerberus." And as she planned, she quickens her pace and crosses the street. If she's not wanted, she won't harass him needlessly.
