Within a day care in Aquarius ward, an 8 foot tall giant, in roughly-made white clothes and still scarred from battle, white and pink markings all over his face, livid and clear is functioning as a sort of human jungle gym. Children climb his legs and are lifted up in his arms, as the warrior serves humanity in quite a different way from his normal warlike work. He fusses over the children as they scamper away, or try to play games with him, his expression always somewhat distant, grey eyes very unreadable even as he gently makes sure everyone is safe and well cared for, sometimes carrying one, two, or even three children in his arms at one time to make sure they are safe and don't run off from the day care. He doesn't react poorly to having blocks thrown at him, or little children crawling all over him, he just faces it with the same stoicism that he faced everything else, from monster to the great daemon Nyarlathotep. It is all to the same to Loken.

Later on, he arms and armors himself once more, and walks in the Sagittarius district, seemingly looking for something even in his wargear, as if stalking a ghost of some sort. Where the children of Hinoto-Ri accept their huge protector and playmate without fear or resentment, this is not the case for the adults, hurrying away in terror of the war-machine, or pelting him with stones, or whatever else they have at him. Whispered words of "monsters", other similar comments are snapped at him, and he trudges on in a silent patrol, a vigil no-one cares about as he prepares to hunt demons. He walks on through it all, his shoulders slightly hunched forward as if in a storm, completely immune to anything they can manage with blade or gun, but hurt somewhat by their words. He has always wondered if he is monster or man, and these other men, these people he has chosen to protect, for whom he struggles to be pure, to keep his honor intact, have rejected him.

"Perhaps it is something someone has to come to understand. I've always understood it, but I admit, I've always envied the people who didn't. Sometimes it seems a simpler way to live."

He shrugs his shoulders. Loken has always had just enough clarity of judgement to know when he is impelled by emotion instead of sound reasoning, and to have seen the unfortunate results.

"To many, ignorance is a form of protection. I think half the reason the locals are so agitated here is they are being forced by the dark hour to cease to be ignorant of many things and this has them spooked more than normal."

Loken nods his head, "Yes. Enlightenment can be terrifying. I've brought truth to many places that... didn't receive it well."

"People have to want it. If they don't they'll bend it to their own scared interpretations of it. I've seen it happen too many times, someone does something to bring the light of truth to people, but they're too scared and stupid to understand and just cling to the light and ignore the truth."

"And yet... we did want it, at first, at least. I wonder how much worse it will become for this place before they desire to know the truth, before they can go away from lies that each hour will bring them less and less comfort."

"In my experience its usually three steps past the point where everything has gone horribly wrong and can never be properly fixed."

"Mine as well, little mamzel."

"I'm sorry, maybe it will end up destroying one thing but creating something better. I'm told that happens sometimes."

"I have not seen it."

"Neither have I. I've been told to look out for it though, but Minato isn't here, and it probably was just nonsense."

"Minato?"

"She took care of me at home, and knew a lot about the adult world."

"The adult world is a confusing place for juves. Did you go to a scholam?"

"No, I was raised in a special program for engineered children."

"Engineered how?"

"I was in a program with 19 others. We were genetically engineered to be the next step in human evolution, or perhaps several steps above that, I'm not certain. The experiment had many.... Issues."

"I see. Does the name Fabius Bile mean anything to you?"

"No? I only met one member of the research team, but that was on Earth and that doesn't sound like a human name."

"Good. I would have been sad to have had to have killed you out of hand." He sounds honestly relieved.

"I take it genetics experiments like that are even more illegal on your world than mine."

"Not exactly. I'm a product of a genetic program myself, however, what he's doing is combining alien DNA with human material, and similarly dangerous activities. Not to mention he's a psychopath and a sadist. The Emperor created warriors, administrators, and artists, and Bile created only raging, imperfect beasts."

"While I don't know of any Emperors, I do know the only alien contact Earth has had in my world is with the technology of a long gone civilization. Still, with a name like Bile, its small wonder he's a terrible person, I suspect if I was named after the Bile ducts I'd have a chip on my shoulder too."

"Hmh. Well, that still doesn't justify what he has done. So, what were you created for?"
