Summary: Catching fireflies! And he needs some folks to help.

[Being at a place like this might seem a little out of character for a guy like Nik, but actually, he finds this quite peaceful. He can't remember the last time he's gotten to do something like this. For a long while, he quietly stands alone, watching the fireflies dance about. It seems like a long time coming, but he's really glad spring is here.

He's come here on a mission, though. Finally venturing to the Velvet Room, Nik's been tasked with collecting some fireflies. Seemed simple enough. Nik's carrying a jar with him to keep them in, with a few holes poked into the lid for air. He figures that should be good enough. Now to actually catch some! They're sort of elusive little critters though, but he doesn't let it bother him. Is he... smiling Enjoying himself? What a rare sight. Maybe you care to join him? Plus nit looks a little difficult, trying to hold onto a firefly and open the jar, and get it in there without letting the thing fly off. He could use an extra set of hands.]

Oh, Nikolai-san! Are you catching fireflies?

[Nano giggles. He didn't seem like the sort to enjoy this kind of thing.]

[ Garviel watches Nik for a long time, trying to ascertain what he is doing, then finally ventures. ]

Wouldn't a fine net work better than a jar?

[He gives her a half smile.] I am. It's for the people at the Velvet Room, though.

Ah... perhaps. But I didn't have one. I can make do. [He smiles slightly.]

I wouldn't expect you to be out here for this.

Unmodified human celebrations intrigue me. Is this a seasonal one, or does it commemorate something?

[It strikes Death that this might be something Delirium would enjoy. On her good days, anyway. The fireflies are certainly pretty.]

They must have wanted to enjoy the lights too.

[Senri has been watching for a few minutes now. Until he got the gist of what Nikolai was doing. Then he reaches out, catches a firefly and walks over.

So... strange kid offering you a bug, Nik. Must be your lucky day.]

I guess they don't get to leave there often? I'm not sure how they do things, but... I figured this was an easy enough request to fulfill. [He attempts to snag a bug out of the air as it goes by, but it slips through his fingers.]

Ah, well... I suppose it's seasonal. There's not one like this where I'm from, but I can see why they have it here. It's quite a sight.

[Nik gives her a little wave.] I suppose so. This is quite nice, don't you think?

Ah... Thank you. [He'll scoop it into the jar.] I'm collecting them for the Velvet Room. Taking a bit of the festival to them, I suppose.

After Mayfield it's a relief just to see holidays roll around without anything horrible happens. And the fireflies are pretty.

Yes, it is. By my time, old Earth doesn't have such creatures anymore. Too polluted.

[A small smile and a nod. The fireflies are really pretty, so he isn't surprised that other people would want to see some.]

More?

[He points in the general direction of some fireflies, offering to add a few more to the collection.]

That's too bad. I'm glad they've survived here, at least. It's been awhile since I could sit back and just watch something like this, though. Usually I'm too busy to just watch the world go by.

Hmm, sure. I suppose I shouldn't put in too many. but at least enough to put on a show.

I can't imagine. I've always had a duty to perform, myself. The only idleness I've ever known was when the crusade fleets went from star to star, and even then there was training and organizational duties to perform.

Do you need any help? It looks like fun!

Sure. I guess I can get away with putting several in here without harm. [He's only got one in there at the moment anyway.]

... It sounds like a difficult life. What do you think of life here in this city, then?

Mayfield? Is that the place you came from? [”Horrible” holidays?]

Frustrating, mostly. [ He looks down at his fist for a moment, then back out to the fireflies. ]

I take it you enjoy it?

[You got it! Senri is heading off to get more fireflies. Bringing them back one at a time.

Which he will keep doing until he's told to stop.]

In between home and here, yes.

All right. I'll bring any I catch back to you, then!

[Nano is all kinds of excited about this.]

[Nik will grab a few sticks to put into the jar, so at least they've got something to sit on. He watches the one lone one blink over and over. Maybe it was trying to signal its friends?

He'll slowly walk over to Nano after a minute or two.] Any luck?

I do. Much to my own surprise. It's taken some getting used to, and of course, I don't enjoy things like being whisked off to horrible towers, or that the town is crawling with things like demons and monsters. But what place is perfect? [He smirks a bit to himself.]

May I ask why horrible things would occur on holidays there? [He's having a hard time fathoming that.]

[Once they have five, Nik will stop him. He holds up the jar to take a look.] I think that should be good. I hope they'll be alright in there. I wasn't sure what else to keep them in.

I got one!

[Nano has her hands very carefully cupped over one another, a small flash escaping from between her fingers every few moments.]

[A nod. He's happy to help. And then he bends down and picks a dandelion from the grass. Because he'll want to remember this later. The fireflies were pretty. The flower goes into a book.]

Because it amused the one pulling the strings. It really wasn't a very pleasant place.

I know a few places that were arguably perfect, once brought to compliance. The five hundred worlds of Ultramar. Old Earth. A few other paradise worlds, even Inwit if you don't mind the cold.

Really? [Nik smirks slightly, shaking his head. He didn't expect to be taken so literally, but it was interesting nonetheless.] Do you ever get to take a vacation and enjoy such places?

[Not much of a talker, huh. Nik's okay with that.]

Ah... You collect flowers?

Good work. Here. [He opens the jar just a bit, hopefully enough to slip it in without letting the other out.]

No. My duties were pushing out the borders of the Imperium so more worlds could be brought to compliance, and thus join the ranks of these wondrous places.

[Nano slowly and gently slides her hands up to the jar's opening, peeling them apart and letting the firefly drop down inside.]

Okay! Close it, hurry!

[He shakes his head. No, whyever would you assume that?

But to demonstrate, he'll pull out a black feather. Then a piece of string that was tucked into another page. There's actually a lot of things in this book.]

[He quickly pops the lid back closed and tightens it. He gives her a smile and a nod.] Good work. Thanks.

Seems sad, never taking time to enjoy them. But I'm sure people appreciated your hard work.

I see. I'm sorry to hear it. I hope your time here has been much better, then.

Oh.

[He has no idea what this means.]
