Summary: Garviel gets lots of memories that aren't his. He doesn't take it well.

Location: Libra ward, atop a tall apartment building. Loken, for he is not Cerberus in this darkness, looks upon the stars. And he remembers... flashes of himself, and flashes of stars he has never seen. With Horus Lupercal, naming the constellations, comparing to primarches. And...

Stargazing with brothers he never had. Smaller than Vipus or Torgaddon. Men who are unfamiliar. And yet... utterly familiar to him. The memories do not hurt, they are not like his madness on Istvaan. Instead, they simply trouble him. As though he had somehow been bisected and reunited, bringing someone else into him.

Location: Mictlan, the 13th Hour.

Garviel is kneeling in agony, the first of the painful memories that he has shared with Aqua ripping at his hearts and mind, feeling his brothers die all over again, feeling every death through a dimension link, as well as some that are witnessed. He sobs, helmet removed and clutched in two hands, great tears pouring down a face already smeared in demon blood, making a mask with strange trails running through it.

Location: The castle of departure

Garviel seems to be stumbling around the outskirts of the Castle of Departure, clutching against the walls at times as he looks for Aqua, clearly disorientated by the barrage of memories both good and bad that have overtaken him.

[ A hulking form and a familiar face covered in blood and tears. She recognizes him, and yet she doesn't. When she last saw that face, she didn't imagine she would ever see him looking so lost and distraught. Such a sight leaves her with that feeling again. That annoying, burning impulse, that compassion she's tried her best to smother ever since it reared its ugly head several days ago. It feels wrong to care if someone else is hurt or in distress, but at the same time, it's proper and natural. How something can feel both natural and unnatural at once, she doesn't know, but it's discomforting, to say the very least. ]

If you're hurt...retreat. This isn't the time to lose yourself.

I.... I am... Who am I? I am Astartes. I can still fight.

[ He stands, holding his chainsword, but holding it incorrectly. Almost like he should be wielding a different weapon. ]

[ She doesn't look like she believes that, and her eyebrow quirks upward at the display of bravado. ]

Says the guy with tears running down his face.

I weep for the living.

I kill for the dead.

[ She can understand about half of that, mostly the "kill for the dead" part. ]

What does that even mean?

It means.... it means I will do what I was born to do.

Protect people? [ At least, that's what she remembers his purpose being the last time they talked. It was obvious to her from how he spoke. ] How are you gonna do that when you're sobbing?

To fight and kill in the name of humanity.

[ So yes, protect people, in the most extreme and bloody way possible. ]

[ Even with these strange memories tainting her mind, her revulsion to that statement is kneejerk and she makes a sour face. Fighting and killing in the name of humanity would, in the past, be an admission she would cut his head off for out of disgust alone. ]

If that's all there is to you, no wonder you're crying. What else is there if you only live for their sakes?

... Justice for my lost brothers. [ Wow, that is a memory for both him and Aqua. Rough. ]

That's a better cause to fight for, then. [ Though she doesn't know what it's like to fight for "justice." She barely even knows what it is. Vengeance, perhaps? ]

And what do you know about causes?

I don't. I've never had one, but I can imagine it's embarrassing for those you fight for that you waver so much.
