▼ When it is darkest, men see the stars...(13th hour)

The night sky once again turned red as the 13th hour hit the city. By now it was almost too easy to accept it. The moon (or what was of it up there) shone, affecting the monster population in subtle ways.

There had been a relative peace last month, apart from the fairy menace. The city was continuing to rebuild itself, and with the aid of the Visitors, progress was going swiftly.

By now, even the strange events which had happened almost seemed a little too common. The pulls from a new building, or the odd creatures that showed up and increased the population for that hour gave rise to new opportunities; both good and bad.

To keep the population safe, the mayor had asked the city to stay inside and let the city police and Visitors do their job, despite the dividing population on this issue. For the most part, there wouldn't be much resistance.

Each night, the sky was always filled with at least one or two signs of something new, and people were ushered inside buildings as much as possible.

Who knew. Maybe tonight you'd get a little memento from home.

▼ Ode of the Newcomer

You're not in your homeworld anymore. That much is evident. So how do you feel? Happy? Sad? Troubled? A little of all three? No matter what, the memories of a butterfly man named Philemon are fading like a dream; you'll remember the details, but perhaps not everything he has said. What time you showed here seems to be as random as everything else; if you were lucky it was during the day, if not, well the 13th hour was rather dangerous. Fortunately, there was a high chance you'd be spotted quickly.

...hopefully anyway.

There is one word that stays with you, however.

Persona.

So...here to save the city, huh? First you'll need to find out more information. And who knows, maybe a familiar face or two...

[ This is a dual log, both 13th hour, or newcomer posts.

This will be up to you on what you want to do; start a new post where you can character's name and OPEN and write the days they'll be wandering during the 13th hour.

If you are a newcomer, write OPEN and what hour they arrived. It can be the 13th hour if you want too! You are, of course, not required to reply here. You can do your own independent log if you'd like!

Join other people's post, do some exploration, post them fighting monsters and just have some fun leveling up / interacting! For this log, you can level up persona ONCE PER IC WEEK, but not in the same thread IC-wise. Please do not abuse this. The conditions is that the fighting must happen on different days. The threads should be long enough that an attack is possible and shouldn't just be a few comments just for the sake of leveling up (Ie, we want effort in them, as much as you would with a normal log.).

If you submitted a building and it was accepted, feel free to start a post with them discovering it! The original owners who submitted will be the first to see them, due to a strange pull that made they feel like they NEEDED to go to that area. What they do with this information is up to them; they can contact others in their group, start exploring by themselves or allow the thread to be open for others to come in with them...it's all up to you. That next morning, the government will be coming over to analyze them (that will be done offscreen, however).

FOR THE CREATURES: The creatures have to be in the Bestiary for you to use them. You don't need to use creatures from your own home worlds either, as long as someone's put in a creature in there! Also, make sure your characters could logically take on the creatures you pick let's not have them take down a giant creature when they couldn't normally.]

... Not at all. Like I said, this is a different world. I'm going to take a guess and say that there's been no reports of giant blood-sucking tentacles or huge explosions in Tokyo where you're from.

[Okay, moving past the blood-sucking tentacles for a moment -]

What are you talking about, a different world? I got into a normal helicopter and flew to another planet, that's what you're saying?

'Cause that just makes you sound like a psycho.

Yeah no. A being called Philemon dragged you here. There's some psychology bullshit about him I think, but the main thing is that you're here and you've been given a power called Persona and blah blah something about maybe saving the world. Possibly. We haven't gotten much info.

[Well, except for when Nyarlathotep dragged them to that tower... but we don't talk about that okay.]

And yeah, even if you've got powers already, the Persona thing is useful.

Persona... [He looks troubled for a moment, then furious.]

You're a telepath, too, aren't you? Get the hell out of my head.

[Because how else would this guy know about his dream? Beings dragging people to different worlds is pure crazy talk, even if it's not supposedly other planets, so he's just pulling shit out of Pyro's head to back it up.

Why, he doesn't know yet. Random gaslighting strangers don't make much more sense than different worlds, but at least they're possible.]

I'm not a telepath. I had that dream too. Everyone dragged here did.

Hell, you could test me if you want. I don't know anything about you, but I know how to spot patterns. And that's happened to every visitor I've talked to.

That's what the natives here call us, by the way. 'Visitors'.

[He snorts a little. It's accurate, but it doesn't reflect the level of wariness the locals treat them with.]

[He actually takes a small step back, his eyes darkening as the stranger explains more and more.

He's coming up with this stuff fast. Really fast to be lying. And yet, he's too calm to be telling such a ridiculous truth. What's Pyro supposed to believe right now?]

So assuming this isn't all crap, why the fuck did they choose me. I'm nobody's hero.

You're asking the wrong guy. I've basically been a hitman for half my life. I'm no hero, either.

And I'm a terrorist. [He smirks at that - it's obviously some kind of inside joke - but he also doesn't look like he's lying.] Whoever's picking people to save the magical city in another world has no idea what they're doing.

[He leans against the nearest wall, toying absently with his lighter; the flame lengthens and wraps itself around his hand, then resolves into a steady pool of flickering fire in his palm.]

So what is Persona, then, and why do I supposedly need it?

[It's not like he really cares.]

Pretty much. And... heh. There's all kinds of demons and monsters here. And after midnight there's an extra hour where the more aggressive ones come out. Some of them are only weak to certain things, which is where your Persona comes in. It's supposedly a part of yourself, but whatever. It's something you can summon.

It's really useful for people who don't have any other powers, but - for example, mine can hit more people at once than I can. It also helps me hit harder.

[There's a brief blue glow before a large shape looms behind and above him. There's a brief flash of red light, and Pyro will feel like he can do more damage. ~~Because video game logic.~~]

They usually show up first when you're in danger. So depending on the person, that might take a while.

Demons and monsters, too. At 13 o'clock. [He's leaning toward disbelief again.] Right. Now this definitely sounds like bulls -

[AND THEN HUGE BLACK THING WITH GLOWING RED EYES. Pyro finds himself thinking of telepaths again, of how easily the Professor could cause an illusion like that, but it doesn't ring true anymore. Especially not when he feels an odd sort of surge inside of him, and the flame in his hand leaps upward without him willing it in any way.]

- the hell did you do to me? [There's anger back in his voice, but it's overshadowed by the plain fear on his face. This guy can manipulate his mutation. No one else could do that but Rogue, and - well, Rogue is Rogue. She nearly fucking killed him.]

Like I said - it helps me hit harder. I can cast it on whoever I want. It goes away after a bit, but in a fight it can be enough to pull you out of trouble.

[He stares down at his flame, trying to force it back down to its regular size, but he can still feel the power surge inside of him and it's throwing off his control. Curious, he shoots off a jet of flame at a pile of crates down the road - not only do they go flying before burning down to ash (which takes a few seconds), but the wall behind him ends up with a long black scorch mark tracing the path of the fire.

That's when he looks back at the stranger, and for the first time, he seems pleased with the whole situation. It's a very twisted sort of pleasure, though.]

Shit. I might have to keep you around. [He snuffs out the flame, holding out his hand.] Pyro.

Heh. No overusing that kind of stuff, though. There's police here, and there's also people with powers that are probably stronger than you've seen. Some of them are the hero type.

I'm Otoha.

[He's gonna have to keep an eye on this one... still, this could be kind of fun.]

I've dealt with cops and hero types before. Gotta come up with worse than that to scare me.

[Powers stronger than his - people like that have been able to pin him down before. But he's a different person now, and nothing is going to pin him down. Not a thing this place can throw at him.]

Otoha. [He repeats the name, obviously finding it unusual, then shrugs.] That big bird of yours do any damage on its own?

Yeah, it does. I do plenty on my own, too.

[He smirks at that, but it's a positive expression; he likes people who are proud of the shit they can wreck.]

We'll have to take on a demon together sometime, then, so I can see you in action. If you'll only hurt the things we're allowed to, I mean. [Okay, that has a bit of bite to it.]

[He huffs in amusement at that.]

I'm pretty sure my roommate would kick my ass if I ended up in jail or escaped from custody.

[At that, he looks away for a moment, something twisting his face into a grimace.]

Yeah, they can be like that.

[He had his own roommate to keep him in line, once. He broke free of the control, left that roommate behind. But somehow, even though he knew it was impossible, part of him thought that roommate might follow.]

... Bad experience, huh. I won't ask.

Good. [He shakes it off, looking around the area in disgust.]

There is a part of this city that doesn't look like the ass end of a slum, right?

Yeah. You just ended up in the industrial district. That's gonna look shitty no matter what city it is.

Tell me about it. I wanna avoid the abandoned factories here - I've had enough of them for a lifetime.

[He can't orient himself at all, though, so he looks back to Otoha again.]

Anywhere I should be going? Tourist center with some pamphlets and maps?
