▼ When it is darkest, men see the stars...(13th hour)

The night sky once again turned red as the 13th hour hit the city. By now it was almost too easy to accept it. The moon (or what was of it up there) shone, affecting the monster population in subtle ways.

There had been a relative peace last month, apart from the fairy menace. The city was continuing to rebuild itself, and with the aid of the Visitors, progress was going swiftly.

By now, even the strange events which had happened almost seemed a little too common. The pulls from a new building, or the odd creatures that showed up and increased the population for that hour gave rise to new opportunities; both good and bad.

To keep the population safe, the mayor had asked the city to stay inside and let the city police and Visitors do their job, despite the dividing population on this issue. For the most part, there wouldn't be much resistance.

Each night, the sky was always filled with at least one or two signs of something new, and people were ushered inside buildings as much as possible.

Who knew. Maybe tonight you'd get a little memento from home.

▼ Ode of the Newcomer

You're not in your homeworld anymore. That much is evident. So how do you feel? Happy? Sad? Troubled? A little of all three? No matter what, the memories of a butterfly man named Philemon are fading like a dream; you'll remember the details, but perhaps not everything he has said. What time you showed here seems to be as random as everything else; if you were lucky it was during the day, if not, well the 13th hour was rather dangerous. Fortunately, there was a high chance you'd be spotted quickly.

...hopefully anyway.

There is one word that stays with you, however.

Persona.

So...here to save the city, huh? First you'll need to find out more information. And who knows, maybe a familiar face or two...

[ This is a dual log, both 13th hour, or newcomer posts.

This will be up to you on what you want to do; start a new post where you can character's name and OPEN and write the days they'll be wandering during the 13th hour.

If you are a newcomer, write OPEN and what hour they arrived. It can be the 13th hour if you want too! You are, of course, not required to reply here. You can do your own independent log if you'd like!

Join other people's post, do some exploration, post them fighting monsters and just have some fun leveling up / interacting! For this log, you can level up persona ONCE PER IC WEEK, but not in the same thread IC-wise. Please do not abuse this. The conditions is that the fighting must happen on different days. The threads should be long enough that an attack is possible and shouldn't just be a few comments just for the sake of leveling up (Ie, we want effort in them, as much as you would with a normal log.).

If you submitted a building and it was accepted, feel free to start a post with them discovering it! The original owners who submitted will be the first to see them, due to a strange pull that made they feel like they NEEDED to go to that area. What they do with this information is up to them; they can contact others in their group, start exploring by themselves or allow the thread to be open for others to come in with them...it's all up to you. That next morning, the government will be coming over to analyze them (that will be done offscreen, however).

FOR THE CREATURES: The creatures have to be in the Bestiary for you to use them. You don't need to use creatures from your own home worlds either, as long as someone's put in a creature in there! Also, make sure your characters could logically take on the creatures you pick let's not have them take down a giant creature when they couldn't normally.]

...What, are you nocturnal? We live, like, a half hour's walk from the town hall. 10 minutes if you take some kind of public transportation.

You're probably right about the card, though. I actually do kind of recall having to deal with some bureaucracy before I was fully processed or something along those lines.

Um... yeah, kind of. I work a lot of nights, or I did, back home.

Wonderful. I hate bureaucracy. It always makes things go so slow.

Would you believe I once visited a planet where you had to submit paperwork to get permission to stand in line? I'm pretty sure slowing things down is the point sometimes.

Anyway, if you work a lot of nights, shouldn't you be more available during the day? Like, for the daylight hours after your shift or something.

Eh, don't worry about it. When you're in my line of work, you can save entire planets, and they'll still forget who you are the next time you stop by.

Think you're set for now? I don't mind sticking around if you're still feeling totally disoriented or something, but otherwise, I'm going to go take care of a few more errands before the 13th Hour happens.

[He really hopes she eats late, or there's going to be trouble tomorrow night... He can try to wake up before sunset, but that doesn't mean he's actually going to manage to get anywhere. Nowhere outside, anyway.]

[She taps her ear for a moment before she realizes.]

Oh -- Sorry. Last thing. ...You should already have this.

[Somehow, the action of tapping her ear causes what appears to be clear plastic glasses to appear on her face.]

This is a COMP - we all get them attached to us when we get here. They're basically communicators. I shouldn't have to explain how to use them; it's weirdly intuitive and also kind of really creepy because I think it fuses with you and starts reading your mind or something.

Still, I can't say it's not useful.

It... we... what?

[He reaches up and taps his ear, and whoa, that action feels a lot more natural than it should. The lenses of his own glasses flicker as if something's getting overlaid on them.]

... Okay, yeah, that's really creepy. So only the people who got brought here get these?

'Nanomachines'. I'm pretty sure they just tell us that to give us an explanation, but these aren't like any nanomachines I've ever come in contact with.

But yeah, that's about right. They latched on just about the moment you got here.

You know what it sounds like when you say they've stuck nanomachines in our brains, right?

Not sure I'd believe it if I didn't see the thing with the glasses.

Hey, we're already accepting monsters coming out of our brains here. It's not like this is such a far stretch.

I know, but in any dimension that made any actual sense you'd sound pretty crazy.

The part where you flew through a wall was a hint, too. I've never seen anybody short of an actual ghost do that, and I can't actually see ghosts. Not that they're too creative anyway.

I don't call myself Phantom Girl to be dramatic, you know. I work just the way you'd expect a ghost to - in some part, that's probably because humans mistook my people for ghosts when we first made contact, like I said before.

I think I can guess some of it. You said you were in the, uh, Legion of Superheroes? I'm guessing it's kind of a thing for different planets to have a representative there, and the Legion has a headquarters in New Metropolis so that's why you said you live there. And you're Bgztl's representative.

[He pronounces that surprisingly well considering he doesn't think it sounds like it has any vowels in it. Experience with arcane rituals in dead or entirely made-up languages helps.]

Oh, you're clever. I knew I would like you. It's 'Bgztl', by the way, with a less sibilant sound - but that's still the closest anyone's ever got.

You're pretty much right. The Legion of Superheroes is... a legion of superheroes! From all over the galaxy. Generally, the idea is one hero a planet, because most of the things people consider 'superpowers' are actually innate to the species. Bgztlians... go through things. Fancy that.

Thanks. I wouldn't say I'm good with languages, but I've actually pronounced weirder names than that. [Well enough for the magic to work, at least.]

So it's the big cliche where a superhero's an alien visitor from another planet... except with every planet. Kind of like the UN if the UN fought crime.

In the 31st century, everyone is an alien. You're technically an alien to me, you know? We don't really even use the term anymore; Earth is teeming with people from every world under the umbrella of the United Planets.

Anyway, the Legion is separate from the United Planets. We just work with them closely.

[Very closely, given that the President happens to be her mother.]

Um. Sorry, didn't mean it like that. But it's one of those things that seems to happen a lot with superheroes, isn't it?

[He tries picking his words a little more carefully.]

You end up becoming one just because what's perfectly normal for where you're from is beyond anything people can do where you are now, and you've got the impulse to use it to help people. It's not even just people from other planets - I mean, you take someone from 21st century Earth and put them in the 11th century and they must look like a god.

That's probably the best way to handle it, honestly. Otherwise you'd end up politicking when you needed to be helping people.

[Phantom Girl half-opens her mouth to shoot off a quick response she closes it again.]

...You know, that's actually a good way to think about it. Not for my situation, specifically, but... even Superman. Whether he knows it or not, he's just a displaced alien.

But the idea with the Legion, though, is that with all of different powers of different species and races working together, we could become the most powerful force for good the universe had to offer. ...Not that we're that egotistical about our role, but... it's been working out pretty OK so far.

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me. Honestly, if I could get people to work together that well I would have a lot fewer problems. I don't envy whoever's in charge in the Legion, though.

...Should I make a guess as to what it is you do?

I'm probably not as intuitive as you are, but... since you've got experience with faeries and demons, since you work at night, and since you have this whole cynical 'well somebody's got to clean up the mess' attitude down pat, it sounds like you're some kind of lone vigilante paranormal investigator.

[He blinks, then chuckles. It's funny how she can be incredibly close and totally off at the same time.]

Well, that's the first time I've heard my personality described like that. It makes me sound a lot more awesome than I really am. But you're pretty close - I don't actually work alone, though. I'm sort of part of an organization. It's just that the guys I work with... well, some of them are more helpful than others.

[His face falls for a moment as if he's remembering something, but the expression doesn't stay long.]

Hm.

...Group politics is always fun to mess around with until it becomes a huge pain in the neck - which is usually about 10 seconds.
