Terra Firma (Newcomer + 13th Hour Log)
▼ All things change, and we change with them (13th hour & arrival log)
Where: The entire city
When: Month of July (date your post accordingly!)
Summary: This is both a Newcomer log AND a General 13th hour log
Warnings: That depends who is there. Remember to mark your titles clearly if any warnings need to be issued!
▼ When it is darkest, men see the stars...(13th hour)
There had been a relative peace last month, apart from the fairy menace. The city was continuing to rebuild itself, and with the aid of the Visitors, progress was going swiftly.
By now, even the strange events which had happened almost seemed a little too common. The pulls from a new building, or the odd creatures that showed up and increased the population for that hour gave rise to new opportunities; both good and bad.
To keep the population safe, the mayor had asked the city to stay inside and let the city police and Visitors do their job, despite the dividing population on this issue. For the most part, there wouldn't be much resistance.
Each night, the sky was always filled with at least one or two signs of something new, and people were ushered inside buildings as much as possible.
Who knew. Maybe tonight you'd get a little memento from home.
▼ Ode of the Newcomer
...hopefully anyway.
There is one word that stays with you, however.
Persona.
So...here to save the city, huh? First you'll need to find out more information. And who knows, maybe a familiar face or two...
▼ Extra Long OOC Blurb
This will be up to you on what you want to do; start a new post where you can character's name and OPEN and write the days they'll be wandering during the 13th hour.
If you are a newcomer, write OPEN and what hour they arrived. It can be the 13th hour if you want too! You are, of course, not required to reply here. You can do your own independent log if you'd like!
Join other people's post, do some exploration, post them fighting monsters and just have some fun leveling up / interacting! For this log, you can level up persona ONCE PER IC WEEK, but not in the same thread IC-wise. Please do not abuse this. The conditions is that the fighting must happen on different days. The threads should be long enough that an attack is possible and shouldn't just be a few comments just for the sake of leveling up (Ie, we want effort in them, as much as you would with a normal log.).
If you submitted a building and it was accepted, feel free to start a post with them discovering it! The original owners who submitted will be the first to see them, due to a strange pull that made they feel like they NEEDED to go to that area. What they do with this information is up to them; they can contact others in their group, start exploring by themselves or allow the thread to be open for others to come in with them...it's all up to you. That next morning, the government will be coming over to analyze them (that will be done offscreen, however).
FOR THE CREATURES: The creatures have to be in the Bestiary for you to use them. You don't need to use creatures from your own home worlds either, as long as someone's put in a creature in there! Also, make sure your characters could logically take on the creatures you pick let's not have them take down a giant creature when they couldn't normally.]
DON'T FORGET TO TAG WITH YOUR CHARACTER'S NAME PLEASE.

Who're the X-Men? Your resident do-gooders?

[The name Professor Xavier is said with particular distaste.]
His own best friend started the splinter group that actually works for mutant rights, the Brotherhood of Mutants.

[Phantom Girl's tone is as nonchalant as it's been from the start, but she can't help a feeling of tension creeping into her spine. A typical teenage attitude was one thing - she'd seen it often enough in her line of work. She wasn't sure where this conversation would lead, though.]
Mind if I ask what a mutant is? I'm pretty sure we all qualify if we're going by the genetic term.
no subject
Yeah, it's what it sounds like. A new gene that appeared way back, creating the Homo Superior branch of the Homo Sapiens species. But that branch has pretty much snapped - don't call a mutant a human if you're interested in ending the day alive.
no subject
[Hero sense continues to tingle, but she moves it along conversationally.]
Anyway. Not that I'm claiming to be a Homo anything, but if it's of any interest to you at all, we've got some similar hypotheses about my people. We're genetically close enough to humanity that it doesn't seem like a far stretch to call us an evolutionary branch, except the whole 'living in different dimensions' bit kind of dampens the idea.
no subject
[Arms out, palms up. Draw your own conclusions.]
You mean you've even got this dimension crap back home? This isn't a one-time thing?
no subject
[Phantom Girl blows a puff of air upward at a loose strand of hair, a small gesture of irritation.]
When I say 'dimension' about Hinoto-Ri, I mean 'parallel universe'. Or not so parallel, as the case may be. When I'm talking about my home, I mean 'inaccessible plane of existence'. Liiike... OK, some humans have beliefs about a spiritual world, right? Sort of like, angels and demons exist, but you can't see them. That's us. We overlap what you think of as reality - actually, we might even exist in your world, too; you just wouldn't be able to contact us ever.
But, actually, I think you're right. There are parallel universes everywhere - this is just one of them. The one that decided to snag us out of the blue.
no subject
Y'know, every time you talk, you make it worse.
no subject
[Phantom Girl holds up her hands, turns them back and forth for a few moments, then sticks one straight through the gate nearby. She holds the position there for a bit before vanishing from sight altogether.
She reappears after a span of about ten seconds.]
I just accessed what we casually and very inaccurately call 'the fourth dimension'. That's still in this 'dimension', as in the parallel world on a different space-time continuum from your world, which also has a 'fourth di' --
...Never mind.
Want to go back to talking about sushi?
no subject
The explanation falls flat so quickly, though, that he just stands up purposefully from his spot in front of the gate.]
I'd rather talk about where the actual city is. I've seen the rough side of town and - Central Park, here, and that's about it.
no subject
[She would laugh if it weren't a bit mean.]
Tell you what. Give me... 5 minutes to get this stuff in, and I'll fly you over to Pisces. Pisces or Libra; you're in one of those. From there, you should be able to find your way around.
no subject
no subject
Because flying's way faster? And also 'cause I don't ever walk if I can help it?
...But, I guess if the pinnacle of human evolution has a fear of heights, we can take the normal route. It's your first day; I can go easy.
no subject
[Oh god, never mind. Now he's got to do it.]
No aerial acrobatics, okay?
no subject
[She grasps the heavy sack once more and hefts it over her shoulder with a grunt.]
And don't worry, I'm the most responsible flyer you'll ever meet. I'll be way too worried about dropping you to try any fancy moves.
[Another mischievous grin before she lifts off the ground and floats through the front gates.]
Be right back!
no subject
[He's gonna die. His first day here and he's gonna die, and not by demon or monster but because of his pride.
Like hell he's back down after she impugned his mutanthood, though.]
no subject
So! Ready to go?
[She had actually waited around for a minute or two just to see if he would flee after that (somewhat cruel, she could admit) baiting.]
...I don't think I've introduced myself yet, by the way. I'm Phantom Girl - Phantom Girl of the Legion of Superheroes of the 31st Century, representative of the planet, Bgztl.
[She gives an elegant bow in mid-air.]
no subject
He pulls himself together, though, and looks just as serious in return.]
Pyro of the Brotherhood of Mutants of the 21st Century, representative of Earth. [Then his lips turn up again.]
no subject
No, actually, I don't even know; it's not like any of our names are spelled without vowels. Don't try to say it; you'll sprain your tongue.
[She reaches down for his hand.]
Anyway, I technically live on Earth most of the time, anyway. Nice place, if a little overcrowded nowadays.
no subject
[He stares at that hand for a moment, his heart rate speeding up as memories of their terrible flight in the jet return. His first time flying, and it was a total (we're talking near-death) disaster. Now he's going to trust being dragged along by some alien?
Finally, he puts on his toughest tough guy face and grabs onto her hand. Bring it.]
no subject
[The moment he takes ahold of her hand, she will propel upwards into the sky - taking it slow, as promised. Rather than feeling a jerk of any sort, though, Pyro will find himself suddenly weightless as they ascend into the air.]
Remember all of the stuff about dimensions? I've phased you partially out of this one right now - the pull of gravity in the buffer space in between is pretty weak, so... voila.
Smooth as silk, right? I really love being me sometimes. Or, well. All of the time.
no subject
... what?
He's staring down at the ground, a bit dizzy from how high they are, but otherwise feeling pretty normal. None of the terrible nausea he felt in the jet.]
Not bad. [A grudging mutter, but with some real admiration behind it.] Xavier's has a girl who can phase, but not like this.
no subject
[From this height, it's easy to make out the general layout of the city. Phantom Girl directs the two of them towards what she knows to be the closer apartment complex.]
I'm guessing my way's pretty unique - is hers something to do with molecular instability? You'd be surprised how often abilities can overlap. We have to have a rule about repeating powers, even.
no subject
[Or get deserted. Like him. But he's not bringing that up to a stranger.]
She walks through walls and sinks through floors and shit like that. Just turns intangible. It's something about the spaces between atoms.
no subject
[Phantom Girl gives a small shrug as they change course towards a rather tall building.]
So... did she ever take anyone along for the ride?
