destinystrings | A Game of Cat and Mouse

It was surely a long and boring day and a half spent in the cages, but finally you're getting to stretch your legs... in the arena, of course.

Without much of a warning, you suddenly find yourself ushered in to a new room, the roaring sounds of cheering demons practically bursting your eardrums with the sheer volume. Looking up, you can see their looming forms seated all around you with no end in sight, as if you were on the field in a large stadium surrounded by seating. However, you seem to be stuck in your own little space, the walls just high enough to prevent any climbing or flying to escape them. Wait... your own space doesn't seem to quite be the right word, as there is someone else stuck in here looking just as confused and overwhelmed as you are.

Ah yes, this was an illegal fighting tournament, wasn't it?

Not a beat later you're dragged into a mental commlink with Q, one of the members of the Seven. Q is gathering all the resources he has available and help is on the way; it just might take a little while yet. Your role is a small but important one: do not succumb to the will of the demons, and do please try to stay alive until your fellow Visitors arrive! He or one of the others in the group will keep you updated as they progress.

So, there it is. You need to stall, to buy time. It might not seem like it sometimes, but demons are pretty simple creatures when you get down to it. As long as they're entertained... well, you could probably stall a fight for as long as needed. Remember, your life and the lives of those stuck in the situation with you depends on it. You don't want this 'fight to the death' to come to its logical conclusion, do you? Q has an entire search team on its way, so hold tight until then.

As the demons continue whoop and cheer, you can hear the sounds of a microphone being adjusted, as if someone is about to speak. The voices begin to quiet down to an excited murmur, and as far as those involved in the tournament are concerned, you could cut the building tension with a knife. After this announcement...it would be time to begin.

(ooc: Welcome to the Arena! Your job is a simple one; keep the crowd interested, and try not to hurt each other too horribly until the cavalry arrives. During your fights, you may find a tag here and there from a demon from the crowd either cheering you on or booing your poor tactics-- sometimes they might even give you some help if you catch their favor. Or maybe they'll throw things at you for being boring, who knows. Be on the look out, and have fun!)

"Illegal fighting tournament? Aww geez...who am I up against?" Maybe it would be Daichi! They're buds, and he's sure they could whip something up for a pleasing display. Or maybe he'd get one of the girls as an opponent, and he could fake some threatening moves on her to just scare her.

He takes a few steps and stretches his arms, cracking his knuckles and grinning at the crowd. "Ladies and gentle-demons, never fear, your champion is right here!"

"Someone's certainly raring to go."

Germany entered the arena, poised and ready to fight. "Be careful. We don't want to inflict any lasting damage... though I'm sure I'll heal faster than you." He took one look at the crowd, then another look back at Junpei. "We should aim for flash. It doesn't matter if you miss; just make it look impressive. That should tide the crowd over till we can get out of here."

Junpei's eyes bug out a little -- Germany is certainly an intimidating man, and there's no way he'd get away with making him mad. But he gets his mind back into the game when his plan is presented. He's not here to kill his opponent, like the demons want him to. They both need to distract the demons. His persona can cast some pretty spectacular fire spells.

"H-hey! I can handle a little pain too. Alright. Showing off's what I do best!"

"I'd imagine as much," Germany replied, referring more to Junpei's showing off than his ability to handle pain. "Get ready!" he called out, making a sweeping gesture. With that, the armored knight Siegfried appeared and raised his sword, sending a lightning bolt crashing down at Junpei. Germany hoped that this wouldn't hit, but he had a feeling that telegraphing too much would bore the crowd and land them in trouble.

Junpei really needs to start thinking before he speaks, but now's not the time for that. Because there are bolts of electricity flashing before his eyes as they strike dangerously close to his feet. His jumpy reactions aren't a put-on.

"Geez!" He scrambles for his Evoker, aiming it at the side of his head and pulling the trigger once he's situated. "C'mon, Trismegistus! Let's show him what we're made of!"

His persona performs a low flying kick, its foot ablaze and leaving a trail of fire and cinders before veering slightly to the left to miss his target. Junpei's not used to having his persona intentionally miss. When his persona disappears, the completed spell pelts the wall, shaking the wall a mite.

Trismegistus may have missed, but Germany still felt the heat. He figured that came close enough to satisfy the crowd. "Siegfried!" he called out, summoning the knight once more to launch another Zio attack. It was flashy, sure, but he was going to have to shake things up a bit to keep from boring the crowd. "Get ready. You're going to have to take a physical attack soon."

"What!?" Junpei outbursts, but fails to pay attention. "GYAH!" That Zio was even closer to hitting him. "Aww man, I ain't a healer..."

Fortunately Trismegistus isn't completely useless in party defense. The Persona ascends above Junpei as its summoned, a bright purple light washing over Junpei. It'll help lessen the effect of the blow.

"Neither am I," Ludwig counters. "Get ready!" He calls out, as Siegfried appears once more. This time the Persona swings its blade down towards Junpei with a Cleave. The Marakukaja should help matters a bit, but Ludwig's Persona is still rather strong physically...

It takes a few casts for the spell to be extremely effective. Why it does dull some of the attack, Junpei will not forget it so easily. The demons fly into cheers as shreds of his jacket and shirt fly off from the cleave. The blade barely touched flesh, but where it did, he bleeds about as much as a paper cut would produce.

"I gotta stay on my toes." He can't die, or get severely hurt. What would Chidori think, after what she did for him? "Blade of Fury!" He throws his arm up as he summons her Persona, which goes flying at Germany.

Today was a good day for Germany to remember that his Persona blocked Physical attacks. He summoned his Persona, who took the full brunt of the attack with no issues whatsoever. "Hah! Nice try, but I'm afraid that won't work." While the Persona was out, he fired another Zio at Junpei. Hopefully the crowd wouldn't get bored of all the lightning flashes...

"WHAT!?" Junpei exclaimed as his attack was rendered ineffective. The demons probably got a kick out of that, but still...it's always been frustrating to see a spell or attack not work. "Damn it, physical attacks are useless..." He mutters to himself after trying to dodge another Zio. It got close enough that Junpei could feel the short hairs on his head stand up and his clothes cling to his body.

"How much longer do we have to do this!?" Junpei whines, summoning his persona again to cast Agilao.

This time, the call comes a bit close, and Siegfried takes some of the heat, making Ludwig wince and shudder. "Be careful! I'm weak to fire... but that can be changed." With a flash of blue, Germany changed from his Soul Persona to his Velvet Room Persona: Vulcan. "Now I'd be wary about using fire attacks, if I were you."
