They always say the first day on a new job is always the hardest.

But tell me...did those tasks include being taken from your own homeworld, dumped into a city you didn't recognize, meeting a man dressed in the purest of whites with a butterfly mask, to be bestowed the power of Persona, and then having some Men in Black lead you to the city hall saying you were expected?

What a way to start the first of September...

As they usher the last of you in, you realize that they've been preparing this for quite a while. There is a small table with food on the right, mixed cuisine (although the main theme seems to be Japanese dishes). Some strange computer program appears next to you and seems to be translating what you are saying so those before you understand. Language barriers? Don't be silly!

Most of the men ignore you after that. You are expected to mingle amongst yourselves a bit before the main 'show' starts, it seems....

Eiji was looking left and right, trying to spot a familiar face or two. This wasn't the first time he'd found himself in a completely bizarre situation with no idea of how he'd got here or why. It wasn't even the first time a super-suspicious dude had given him weird powers.

"Hina-chan! Chiyoko-san!"

"...Ankh!" Now there was a long shot if ever there was one.

The pointy-eared kid who was standing around looking dazed* is now staring at Eiji.

Why is he yelling.

"...are you okay?" he says in a rather dreamy voice.

* It should be noted that "dazed" is also his natural expression.

Eiji turned around; there was a puzzled look on his face. "Huh? Me?"

Then he looked down at himself, patting his chest and shoulders down to check for injuries. He wasn't bleeding or anything, was he? He looked back up at Link. "Uh, I think so. More importantly, are you okay? You look kinda out of it."

"...I'm just confused..."

He got everything explained to him and all but.

It still doesn't make any sense.

A relieved smile spread across Eiji's face. "Oh, okay. Whew. I thought maybe I should call a doctor or something."

He paused. "Oh, but it's okay to be confused! I'm confused, too!"

"So this isn't a dream, huh?"

He could buy it, maybe. He does have a bad habit of falling asleep just about anywhere, long enough to have dreams as weird as this..

It's just, it doesn't feel like a dream at all.

"Uh, I don't think so. It doesn't feel like one."

Usually his dreams were a lot more nonsensical, involving things like walking up an endless staircase made of building blocks. With President Kougami's disembodied laughter floating through the air. "Besides, this kind of thing happens to me a lot, so..."

"You mean...showing up where you weren't before?"

Because. That's never happened to Link, so. He's kind of confused by that claim.

Eiji scratched his head. "Well, sometimes I've come to and found myself doing something else. So yeah. It was a little easier to put together back home, though. I mean. There were people hanging around to tell me what I'd been doing."

"What were you doing?" he asks, because this is totally not private information.

[zero_to_herooo]

Eiji paused, looking back over at Link. "Huh? You mean before I got here? I was on a trip, traveling around the world. I even had a pair of underwear prepared for tomorrow..."

As he spoke, Eiji's eyes went wide. "Tomorrow's underwear!"

He began frantically looking around at the crowd, the people, the tables, the floor. "Don't tell me I lost my underwear!"

Link stares at Eiji as if he's quite lost his mind.

Eiji started crawling under the tables and chairs.

[hetried]

As if Ankh would ever answer his cries for help

"Uh. Looking for someone?" Well yeah, that wasn't that hard of a jump to make, even if that last name was really weird sounding.

Daichi's not entirely sure he could actually help if the answer was yes, but he knew the feeling of being stuck in a strange place, surrounded by hostiles and separated from your friends. Actually that seemed to happen to him a lot!

HE MIGHT IF THERE WAS AISU IN IT FOR HIM

"Ah. Yeah, actually. I don't see them around anywhere, though..." Plus, if President Kougami were here, EVERYONE WOULD KNOW IT. ...Actually, he wondered if Kougami was behind this, too. Somehow.

Eiji sighed. "And I lost tomorrow's underwear, too... tomorrow's underwear..."

Sob. Sob.

[hetried]

Only if it was the really good, fancy kind!!

"Yeah, I know you what you mean. I've only recognized one or two people in this crowd." It was kind of disheartening, given that it felt like he had seen them literally just a few hours ago and wait what about underwear?

"--Uh.. underwear...?"

[zero_to_herooo]

"Well, you know, I usually pack pretty light when I'm traveling. But as long as I have underwear for tomorrow, I feel reassured, you know? Like I can take on anything. But the pair I had went missing when I got here." He took a quick glance around the room.

"Hey, if you see it, let me know, okay?"

[hetried]

"Oh. I guess that makes sense..." In a...really weird, way. "Shouldn't you be carrying other clothes for tomorrow too though?"

Yeah he's... not gonna try and figure it out. But he did nod and smile slightly. "Yeah, I'll keep an eye out! I'm sure you can always buy some more somewhere if you can't find them anyway."

[zero_to_herooo]

"I guess, but that's not really as important. I mean, I've worn the same clothes two days in a row before." But the same pair of underwear? SCREAM.

"Anyway, I don't actually have a lot of money on me right now. I was going to get paid tomorrow." Eiji reached into his pocket, producing a handful of coins. Usually, they'd be carefully wrapped in underwear for safekeeping, but that was a luxury he obviously couldn't afford at the moment. 500 yen and change.

"Guess I'd better find somewhere to work before the day's over..."

[hetried]

Well considering he had to wear his school uniform all the time, he couldn't really judge.

Daichi looked at the money in Eiji's hand with interest and the... realized something and quickly dug around in his own pockets.

Turns out coming out of a lockdown where money was useless meant your pockets were still empty when it was over. "A-Aw man... I don't have anything either.... I never got a chance to get a job though, they didn't allow it at my school..."

...Wait. Did he still have to go to school even?

[zero_to_herooo]

"Ah... well, if I get hired somewhere, I'll let them know you're looking, too. But... I mean, if you're still in school, they probably have some kind of dorm for you to live in, right? I don't think they'd make you work full-time or anything."

Eiji was sure this would work out somehow. He'd survived an entire year on nothing but pocket change and good intentions.

[hetried]

"I don't know. I was a senior in high school before all of this happened... and I didn't even apply to any colleges or anything..."

Augh. Now he was stressing about the future again. Positive thoughts, right!

"Uh, right. I'm Daichi Shijima. Nice to meet you. I hope you find something though!"

[zero_to_herooo]

"Hino Eiji. Same here!" Eiji looked thoughtful. "Well, it's not like you have to go to college. Especially not if you were planning on getting a job out of school. Whenever someone official shows up, let's ask them what they're planning."

Yeah. Whenever that happened. "I hope I'm not here too long. I don't mind helping out, but I need to get back home..."

[hetried]

"I hope so. This is all really confusing." Though that was definitely an understatement.

"Oh yeah-- your friends, right? You didn't find them here yet, did you..."

[zero_to_herooo]

Eiji shook his head. "No, but I guess that's okay. I mean, it's probably better for them to be all safe and sound back home. And I figure Date-san and Gotou-san can take care of stuff while I'm... you know. Wherever this is. What about you?"
