From One City to Another [Open post event info and start]

The Mayoress keeps her word, and the Visitors are whisked away and changed into more suitable clothing for this world, free of charge. As they step down from the portal -- a stark contrast to the last time it was used, a giant man standing easily over eight feet tall and resembling a mammoth takes out a piece of string and measures everyone for their complimentary hat, vest, goggles and boots, as a small team works nearby to adjust the sizes of the materials they already have. It's rather interesting to see them at work, cutting with iron scissors - a spiderlady using her own silken string along with a robot aide to patch things up. Before long, you are given an outfit that's been tailor-fit for you.

Hopefully you aren't too arachnophobic, she's a nice old lady.

Once that's all done, the Mayoress speaks up.

"Come with us, please!"

Robotic horses and chariots draw them into the middle of the town, as a small map is given to everyone, but it's overly simple at best.

As they arrive in the town square, a look around reveals that the people here seem to be a mixture of humans, humanoid animals that have evolved, and robots. The feeling is very Old West, but with it all kept at a simple level despite the advance technology present. Compared to Hinoto-Ri and its lights, bright city and atmosphere, Geartopia feels like it falls on the opposite end of the spectrum. There's barely anything that would make you think of a modern city.

Which is why those that don't look like they belong stand out even more than you do.

Confused people from various worlds, not meant to have landed here... but currently with no way to go home, are stuck in Geartopia, violently torn from whatever they had been doing.

"We ain't sure what happened," she tells the Visitors, shaking her head. "But the past three days have been nothin' more than a giant mess! And they keep pilin' up. We need you to help us figure out what's happenin’!"

As they continue towards the town's center, she gives a bit more explanation: Once, long ago, Geartopia was built by aliens visiting the planet that granted intelligence to some native species. That includes her kind! The giant black obsidian monoliths humming precariously outside of town are an example of that. Normally the rocks only work when they need to contact other worlds. Three days ago, they started to glow, and that's when others began to appear here. People that had not been planned for. And they were still coming in, too...

The technology the elder aliens left them allows them to contact other planets during times of distress, but otherwise, there is nothing futuristic going on - the aliens wanted it this way and for the most part, the population respects this. Most of the area is dry and arid, with very tiny grass and shrubs growing over the hill, and, strangely enough, an area from town that is densely populated by forest.

They'll need your strange and powerful manpower in the upcoming days… just like twenty years ago, when the previous mayoress had called upon great heroes for aid.

[OOC Info about Geartopia:

- Saloon and bars of all sizes. Most are comically named with an object and a color. You can find all sorts of them across town. The shadier ones can be found at the far end of the west.

- There are hotels with gear-driven pianos playing wistful tunes as you drink hard liquor made from cactus juice, honey and barley. The honey wine is especially prized and costly.

- There is also a small carnival with a steampunk and old west fair, sugar and cactus fruit pies, whole animals roasted over open pits, musicians, and a single wooden coaster. It's not much, but the food is excellent.

- Be careful, however. The cactus fruit does cause stomach aches for most people not native to this world.

- There are farms around here, if you feel like having real food and doing honest work.

- The general store has steampunk items for sale, but most of them are much too expensive for the visitors at this point. You can try to barter.

- Oh, and news travels fast. Cause problems, and the rumors will travel to the mayoress fast enough.

[At a casual glance, it's nearly impossible to tell that this isn't someone he'd only just met here earlier. The greeting is noted as odd, given Yaiba's direct cut to informality, but....]

Not what he was expecting at all.

As far as he knew, Ayumu should have been preoccupied with Kanone to have learned about him quite yet; Kiyotaka had made sure of that. Of course, allowing for the tendency of these worlds to take people from different times would explain why Ayumu would know of that name, but...

It still doesn't make any sense as to why Ayumu would assume he were Yaiba.

Despite his sudden and deep misgivings, he tries to put it off lightly.]

Haah... that's not quite right.

[There's something... off about this expression...]

[Ayumu's brows crease minutely, taking in the green haired teen in front of him. 'Not quite right'.... and with the way he addressed him....

He knew him, but Ayumu didn't know who he was. Added that to the resemblance to Yaiba--]

I have to admit.... This is a pretty odd place to meet you, Hizumi.

[It's the most likely logical conclusion.]

Then we agree. I wouldn't have expected to see you here.

[Because as much as Hizumi is hoping that finally, his last chance at peace has come--

The fact that Ayumu gave that name instead is telling him that something is very, very wrong. Ayumu would have to be logical like his "brother"; there's no way he would assume Hizumi were Yaiba with the knowledge that Yaiba has been dead for many years now.

Even though he gives a silly smile, he can practically feel the surging of the darkness that threatens to swallow him up for good.]

He'd already known Hizumi would approach him soon and even this situation, it seemed like some things weren't going to change.]

There's a 'Yaiba Mizushiro' walking around town. He's about your age, and he looks just like you.

[Frankly speaking, Ayumu was glad to have parted ways with him earlier, though he regretted the inability to keep track of him as well. He didn't know much about what Yaiba was like as a teenager.]

So that's how it is... I wondered how you recognized me so quickly.

[It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. These worlds aren't restricted to the same linear time that most others are - people can be pulled here from any time period, from any place. It had always been a possibility, and even one that Hizumi had considered a few times himself, even if it never seemed to come to pass.

I never knew him too well. [And probably for the best.] It must have been interesting to meet him in the flesh.

[Buried deep beneath his words, however, is fear. If Yaiba exists here, it could spell out all kinds of problems for him.

He's already lost everything to fate. Must he have his own identity stolen from him as well?]

interesting is one way to put it. [But Yaiba seemed... normal. Normal for now, anyway.

That would probably change in a few years, though.] Is stuff like that normal here?

[He's guessing from the lack of real surprise his theory had been correct. Time hopping, huh.

Seems that way. To be honest, you - and him, I guess - mark the second time anyone from our world has ended up entangled in all of this.

[Too bad it's in a world separate even from Hinoto-Ri. He has to wonder if there would be a way to drag Ayumu along with him while still avoiding his "brother"...]

Aah, but it can be pretty much assumed that in general, both time and space aren't really an obstacle. There are people who are clearly used to extremely advanced technology just like there are people who have never encountered phones before. It looks like there's a lot of alternate earths represented as well.

That said... I should probably check. What happened to you before you got here?

[It was bizarre, but this place proved itself just by existing. The question about what had happened before he got here is one he's fine with answering. More than likely Hizumi already knew more about him than he did about Hizumi, anyway.]

More or less. Especially in Hinoto-Ri, but... it's probably not worth getting into at this point.

[An advantage...? Not really. Not unless Hizumi thought he knew nothing of the situation, and even then just knowing his name showed he knew something. It depended on what Hizumi thought the extent of his knowledge was.]

He didn't make it easy, that's for sure.

The short version is, this isn't the first, or even the second world I've been taken to against my will. The people of this world requested help from another one, Hinoto-Ri. But instead of sending their own people, they decided it would be better to send the Visitors that have been appearing there instead.

[And we're not even going to talk about that damned tower.]

I didn't come here from Hinoto-Ri. I just stepped out of the hospital and ended up here.

It is. Especially when he'd decided I'm supposed to kill him.

That's what I thought. You see, the problem they seem to be having here is... well, people from other worlds appearing for some unknown reason. I'm not sure what they expect us to do about it, though.

[Philemon was the one who knew more about that kind of thing. Too bad contacting him on your own terms is more or less impossible.]

[In reality though, Kanone Hilbert's death would have accomplished nothing. Killing him wouldn't have helped the Blade Children, even with the way circumstances were now. His options were still open.]

Hinoto-Ri has its own system to deal with Travelers, but we aren't trapped there, either. It's a lot different from the situation here.

[Kanone's death would have set him on a path of destruction; one that Hizumi would have welcomed.]

That doesn't always stop people. [Ayumu is freely associating with the Blade Children, after all.] ...But maybe we should save this for a less crowded location?

[He shifts a bit on the crutch. While he knew one thanks to Yaiba, it would probably be better for Hizumi to lead, with him like this.] Lead the way.

It won't be hard to find one, at least!

[And he'll lead the way at an easy pace for Ayumu to follow along. There was one he passed by not long ago that seemed like it would be suitable, so he makes a beeline for it.]

[Ayumu follows after him, a bit slow but not too badly off. With Hizumi taking the lead, he's free to use the time to quickly analyze what he's heard so far, another bonus.]

[Sure enough, it's a loud, smoky saloon that smells a lot of alcohol and other things you probably don't want to think too hard on.]

[He gives a small wave, navigating a path through the tables that leaves a little more room for Ayumu to maneuver on his crutches. The table he finally stops at is one to the side, where people are less likely to pay much heed.]

[The place reeks, and Ayumu isn't the biggest fan of the stench of alcohol, but its loud and enough of a cover for the conversation they plan to have to work. It didn't smell that much worse than the first place, anyway.

He follows after Hizumi slowly, carefully navigating towards the table in question and resting the crutch against it as he braces his hand against the table.]

[Hizumi sits, waiting until Ayumu is also seated before he folds his hands under his chin.]

Based on the fact that you know my name, I'm assuming they've explained the situation to you so far?

[He's leaning forwards slightly, his voice just loud enough for the other teen to pick it up.]

[Ayumu takes a seat as well, quietly listening to Hizumi before responding, his voice just as low.]

They did. About Yaiba, my brother, the Blade Children and us both.

[And he knew what Hizumi's likely plan from here on out would be, as well. He couldn't kill him according to the scenario, but....]

But wouldn't the true completionist go for all 80+?

True that. That'd be really difficult though.
