Who: Latooni and OPEN
Where: Cancer Ward, and later a maid/EGL café in said Ward
Summary: Lat gets a job
Warnings:Maids will be assaulted Just kidding that would be mean. None.
It had all started when she decided to go electronics shopping in a dress.
The simple fact of the matter is that Latooni had been transported here with a selection of the more elaborate dresses Princess Shine and various slightly overbearing superior officers had gifted her over the last few months, which meant that on nice days at least she could easily wear them as casual outfits. Naturally - both being accustomed to the dresses and noticing there were plenty of people here with even less practical outfits, many of them natives - Latooni had gotten dressed on Monday and headed out to the Cancer Ward to price any potentially useful storebought equipment. And maybe scope out the arcade, you know, just in case Ryuusei ever showed up looking for her. Not that he was any more likely to lead a rescue mission than, say, Lt. Kyousuke, but she'd like to be able to tell him about it, just in case...
Anyway, she hadn't gotten through more than half the shops without coming to the conclusion that anything useful here would cost more than she could afford on her Visitor stipend. She didn't eat much, but she knew her basic nutritional requirements. It was around this time that she was interrupted by a few different conversations, one of which turned out to have a solution to this problem.
It was a few hours later that the enthusiastic, outgoing, and frankly gorgeously-dressed woman who had addressed Latooni on the street finally finished getting Lat set up as a new employee. During the entire process, the pilot took in the details of the job dutifully, nodding along even as she couldn't help but compare the manager to Lt. Excellen, if only because she couldn't think of any other attractive, hyper-enthusiastic women who would open a café in between two hobby shops. Attractive, hyper-enthusiastic men sure, but that's another story.
At any rate, Latooni went out to train on her new job dutifully, expression only slightly changed by bemusement at the idea. Wear one of her dresses - she'd show images to the manager and was assured any of her "costumes" would be fine - go out and take drink and snack orders from the (mostly) men who wanted to take a break from their electronics shopping to have some refreshments and talk to a girl in cute clothes. A year ago, Latooni would have been terrified at the idea, but now the setting was only slightly strange and the job just about mechanical - memorize orders, repeat them, return regularly to check on the customers. The older girl in a maid outfit that she was following for training purposes made it seem extremely simple, though Latooni doubted she could ever talk that much unless someone here wanted to have a serious technical discussion with no eye contact involved. That said, the manager had insisted that being "cute and quiet" was perfectly acceptable, and offered her wages she knew were statistically very generous for a service job, plus tips. After seeing the prices on hardware she could use to upgrade the Wildraubtier's sensors or her own COMP glasses, she had (quietly) accepted, and was now learning the differences and locations of more types of tea than she had ever expected from a themed restaurant...
((Open for tagging either for shopping around Cancer Ward (above the break) or while training at a Maid/EGL café that I will invent a name for if asked. The job application isn't technically approve yet, but we'll say she's trying it out until that clears OOCly. At-will part-time employment for the win. Anyway, tag either, just let me know which.))

Problem was, he got so wrapped up in his search that he forgot to eat. By the time he remembered it, his stomach was already protesting rather loudly. So, bag in hand, he walked down the street until he spotted a café. Hey, maybe that would work.
However, he felt awkward immediately after walking in. It was pretty clear that this wasn't your normal restaurant -- after all, what kind of restaurant uses a maid uniform for its waitresses? Still, hunger trumped comfort, so he stuck around long enough to get a seat.
Eventually the waitress came to take his order. However, as fate would have it...
"...Latooni?!"
...it was the waitress who was training a certain pilot.

Well, there goes her composure. At least she wasn't holding anything, but the surprise and embarrassment at suddenly running into someone she knew temporarily shorted out the detachment she'd been maintaining from the situation and caused her a couple seconds of unreasonable panic.
Fortunately, rather than fleeing as she once might have, she just blushed and fidgeted awkwardly after realizing she'd just had a random outburst. "I mean, hello, Asem. I'm...training for a part-time job," she got out quietly as, for no reason readily apparent to her, a couple nearby customers applauded and her trainer smiled politely and confirmed Latooni's statement.

"Well, um. I. I know what I'm going to drink." He placed his order rather quickly.

...
Naturally, when his order was up, Latooni's trainer sent her out to deliver it alone, if only to see the results.
"Sorry about that...I was just startled to see someone I know," she explained, blushing. "I was just hired today out of the blue, so I'm still getting used to it..."

She put his order down and bows the shallow but enthusiastic bow she'd seen the other servers using, ruffling slightly. "Um, how am I doing?"

Which was odd for her to say, but she had long ago decided that reading patterns in your average person's behavior was impossible compared to knowing how a machine was going to maneuver if you fired at this particular point. Although she generally got it when people put down their menus and started looking bored already, at least.
