Child Event and Blackout Log

Where: Around the city and in the apartments
When: November 15-18
Summary: Little kids everywhere!  Also the power grid is on the fritz.
Warnings: Hopefully none!

With the network and the city's electricity once again malfunctioning, the power to most of the city has either been knocked out or is malfunctioning.  And since inconvenient things rarely happen in a vacuum in Hinoto-Ri, a portion of the city has also been affected by some strange new curse, reverting to childlike forms.  Business in and around the city has ground to a standstill due to the power problems, and without functioning heat in the apartments, extra blankets and huddling together for warmth are the order of the day.  It's still possible to go outside as the government hasn't imposed any additional curfews, and the demons during the 13th Hour are as active as ever, but some people may just want to ride this out until everything is back to normal.

"Because heaven is in the sky, not a knife." He sounds a little impatient, shifting from foot to foot. "Why do you have a knife anyway? Aren't they s'posed to be dangerous?"

"'Course it's dangerous. If I get eaten, I at least wanna stab th' thing before I die."

His eyes go wide right then. "What do you mean, eaten?"

"By the Aragami. They eat everything."

Her voice lowers to a conspiratory whisper.

"One time, I saw this old building, and it had this big hole from where an Aragami ate straight through."

That gets him to pause for a moment, only to say: "That can't be true."

He'd watched movies with giant monsters before, but his parents always told him they weren't real. So something like that shouldn't be possible, either.

"I really did see it! It's proof they don't just eat humans!"

[bondsofsuffering]

"Monsters like that aren't real. That's just what you see in movies."

Definitely looking bored now. "So you're looking for a knife? The police probably picked it up. I don't think they're gonna give a knife to us."

"It wasn't a movie that ate my Dad."

And a slight pause.

"And what's the police? Why would they steal Mom, anyway?"

[bondsofsuffering]

"Police are people who help you when you get lost and protect people from bad guys." He rattles it off as well-known information. And then: "You don't even know what police are?"

"Oh, you mean the God Eaters. I'm gonna be one when I grow up."

[bondsofsuffering]

"God Eaters? That doesn't sound anything like police."

[dontrunawayfromliving]

"God Eaters work for Fenrir killing Aragami, so they can eat all they want and wear nice clothes."

Pause as she tugs at one of her ponytails.

"...if the God Eaters have Mom, they'll give her back. Show me where to find them."

[bondsofsuffering]

"I told you, they aren't God Eaters. They're police. Po-lice."

He gives an exaggerated sigh.

"I'll help you find them, but they'll probably say a knife is too dangerous for you."

"It's not like Mom is the only knife I have, you know. She's just the most important one."

[bondsofsuffering]

"You have more knives?"

He takes a step back, looking worried. "You aren't gonna hurt anybody with them, are you?"

"'Course not! They don't let crooks become God Eaters, after all."

[bondsofsuffering]

"Then what are all the knives for?"

[dontrunawayfromliving]

She starts ticking things off on her fingers.

"I got a knife for stabbin' Aragami - ain't had to use it yet - another one for cuttin' cloth and stuff, so I can make bandages or blankets and stuff, a big scary one for drivin' off the older orphans from takin' my stuff, another one for gettin' meat off of dead stuff, an' Mom."

Nodding.

"If an Aragami ever bites off my legs or somethin', I'll cut my throat and go live with Mom in the knife."

His eyes widen only further, and he begins backing away.

"...You aren't serious, are you? Knives aren't even allowed." You get in trouble and then the police take it away because they're dangerous. Right?

[dontrunawayfromliving]

"That's dumb. Geeze, you're talking like you live inna house or somethin'."

[bondsofsuffering]

"You don't?"

[dontrunawayfromliving]

There is a long pause.

"...oh."

She fidgets a little, tugging at one of her ribbons.

"...sorry, I thought you lived on the streets like me. Shouldn'ta said stuff like that to you."

[bondsofsuffering]

"You live on the streets? Are you an orphan?"

This girl is weird. Weird and kind of scary. He's still undecided if he should just bolt for it, and his indecision is probably clear on his face.

"Yeah. Sorry. I know you family kids don't like hearing 'bout that stuff."

[bondsofsuffering]

"What do you mean by family kid?" He gets the idea, but it's just so weird. He has to ask to be sure.
