No matter what you were doing before, when the dazzling flash of light clears you find yourself at the base of a Ferris wheel in what seems to be an amusement park, a vague memory of someone asking 'Now, are you a boy? Or a girl?' running through your head.

Wherever you are, it's definitely not Hinoto-Ri. And just what are those strange creatures that everyone else seems to be taking for granted?

Weird. They'd faced each other in a rather one-sided 2-on-2 tournament match months ago. Atoli guesses that Sasha might just be forgetful.

"We've seen each other before actually, but I'm Atoli," she says to the 'Flame of Fortune', "which is kind of what she said when I came into your conversation."

When she turns back to Kotoha, she says "Well, none of us know anyone you know from here, I think," not discounting the possibility of an acquaintance of the Trainer arriving without her knowledge.

Oops. Way to derp, Sasha. Way. To. Derp. "Oh, I remember you now! I'm sorry, Atoli." Random memory blanks were actually not terribly unusual for Sasha. Sometimes, out of sight really was out of mind for her. She did have lots of people to keep track of thanks to her world travels, which didn't particularly help matters but didn't really excuse them either.

Now, back to Kotoha. "What...? Did you steal their boss's power or something? How come he can't function as a human being?"

"Well, essentially, he was a massive egomaniac, and so when I crushed his criminal organization and defeated him in single combat his entire world view was shattered. From what his ninjas said, he's lost the ability to function as a human being out of sheer disbelief."

"No, no, it's fine. It's been months since that tournament, after all. Honestly I kind of wish I could forget it, it was kind of embarrasing how easily my partner and I lost."

Although really, it wasn't their fault. What can you do against the Force? But that was enough of that conversation thread. Back to bad guys.

"Well that's lucky. I apparently help stop someone like that back home later, and from what I heard from Haseo he was... er... is? a lot more persistent."

It still feels weird talking about Sakaki that way, though. And that's even before taking into account how weird language gets in the influence of non-linear temporal interactions.

"Sheer disbelief? Wow... that sounds like one hell of an ego." Sasha kind of understood what happened, as extreme as it sounded. If one person spent years building something up only to have it crushed, it would make sense that losing that thing would be devastating. "I guess that happens when you lose your sense of purpose..."
