A New Power! The Ultimate Persona Appears!?

Who: Kotoha and Fumi
Where: Leo Ward, outside JP's Hinoto-Ri Branch
Summary: Kotoha and Fumi fight a dude and get MORE POWER.

Another day at JP's is over, and Kotoha has managed to talk Fumi into patrolling with her - for the past few days she's been trying to chase down a particularly elusive demon, and she could use Fumi's scanning abilities to drag it out into the open. Kotoha's got her full loadout ready for tonight - samurai helmet, Golden Mantis Charm, tac vest, stun baton, heavy jeans.

She's developed a habit of overpreparation.

"You picked anything up yet?"

[While the creature is staggered, Fumi regroups and tries an attack of her own. Unfortunately, the demon is completely unaffected a second time by the Dementor's assault, and Fumi scowls.]

It appears to be immune to Dark.

[And now it's the demon's turn. Having shaken off the earlier assault and become rather tired of Fumi's efforts, it raises its weapon, calling down a huge bolt of lightning to strike the scientist directly. Fumi lets out a yell, cursing her decision to switch Personas. Vapula would have simply absorbed that, but as it is, she takes the full brunt.]

At that, Kotoha pushes off of Tesla's side and launches an assault with Victini.

"HEY UGLY!"

The blast of flame splashes off the demon's back as Kotoha continues to hurl abuse at it, while Arthur places both paws on Fumi's shoulders and sends a torrent of healing energy into her.

[And it's back to Vapula, because at least he absorbs lightning.]

This... is very irritating.

[So it's time to run some interference here. Vapula once again makes with the glowy eyes, and this time what looks to be glowing code shoots out of them and toward the demon.]

...Baby steps, I suppose. It's at least able to be affected by lightning now, if that matters to you at all.

As Kotoha steadies on her feet, she boosts Arthur with another Tarukaja as the Lucario lashes out with another Dragon Pulse attack, once again aimed at the demon's knee. At the same time, Tesla's magnets spin and buzz as the Magnezone unleashes a bolt of lightning from its main antennae.

Ongyo-ki stiffens as the electricity courses over it, its body language showing it was shocked it even felt that. Taking its staff in both hands, it lunges forward, smoothly avoiding Arthur's attempt to run interference as it unleashes a Piercing Hit through Fumi's defenses.

[Well, that hurt like hell. Fumi spits up some blood as the full force of the Ongyo-ki's attack collides with her, and she falls to her knees. And that would be the end of things, if not for what happens next.]

I am thou, and thou art I...

[Vapula's voice speaks into her head, warping and shifting as its form begins to destabilize. By the time it speaks the next line, Kotoha can hear it as well. All of what follows happens in seconds, somehow.]

From the sea of thy soul, I come.

[The griffon-headed lion eventually transforms into an entirely new figure altogether - a wise man clad in robes and jewels, riding atop a camel.]

I am Paimon, one of the nine Kings of Hell and most loyal of Lucifer's servants. Thou who hast compelled my presence, let us unlock the mysteries of the universe.

[And suddenly, they're right back in combat time. Fumi wastes no time in commanding this new Persona. Questions can come later.]

...Phantasm.

[Her voice is weak and her breathing labored, but the air around her shimmers as her form goes translucent. Let's see Ongyo-ki deal with that.]

Kotoha freezes as soon as she sees Fumi spit up blood - and, even though it's an intense relief to see what follows it doesn't change what actually happened. No more hanging back or being unsteady anymore - Kotoha squares her shoulders and charges.

"Get away from my friend!"

With that, she tackles the Ongyo-ki, intent on bodychecking it away from Fumi - an endeavor aided by Arthur's roundhouse kick to its head. As the demon skids away, Kotoha stares it down as Victini starts talking.

I am thou, and thou art I...

A rocky shell, like a meteorite covered in runes, surrounds Victini.

From the sea of thy soul, I come.

The meteorite splits open, and from it rises the upper half of a pale-skinned youth.

I am Mitra, lord of the morning sun. Thou who has signed my contract shall be forevermore covered in glory!

"Shield All!"

[Fumi's finished taking chances. From the relative safety of her phantasmal protection, she synchronizes her COMP and casts a Mediarahan to heal herself, Kotoha, and the Pokemon in one fell swoop.]

...Thank you, Kotoha.

[And then she turns to look at the demon again.]

So, what's yours capable of?

Before Kotoha can reply, the Ongyo-ki unleashes a Happohassa attack once more - however, it is rendered utterly useless by the Shield All Kotoha just cast. Scowling, Kotoha points at the demon and unleashes a new spell.

"Incinerate!"

The howling torrent of flame unleashed by Mitra burns straight through the demon's resistances as Kotoha gives it a tight little smile.

"I can ignore fire resistance now!"

Not so tough now, are you.

[Fumi smirks, unleashing a torrent of lightning against its weakened defenses.]

Kotoha and her Pokemon surround the demon in a triangular formation, each of them unleashing an attack directly at Ongyo-ki's center of mass. In response, it unleashes yet another Happohassa, aiming to at least knock Kotoha away again. The attack clangs off of Tesla and Arthur, once more causing them to retreat a half-step backward, passes through Fumi's phantasmal form, and when it reaches Kotoha it's reflected off an invisible barrier, causing the demon to stagger back as its hit in the face with its own attack.

Kotoha's grin turns a little vicious.

[One more time with the lightning. It's the last round of the demon's decreased defense, after all, and it's all Fumi's got that can hurt it for the moment.]

Just die already.

"One last push...! Mitra! Incinerate!"

As Kotoha unleashes another torrent of flames, the demon staggers back. Arthur's bark heralds another Dragon Pulse which slams into its arm, sending its staff flying. As light gathers on Tesla's metallic surface, it starts to funnel down towards its central eye, turning the Magnezone into a giant laser cannon, the impact of the Light elemental attack slamming the demon into the ground and leaving it unable to move.

[And while the beast is stunned, Fumi takes full advantage of the extra turn. Dismissing her newly evolved Soul Persona for the time being, she calls back the Dementor. Finally able to give this thing the one-two punch she's been waiting for, she sends it forward to envelop Ongyo-ki and drain its soul - first by removing its Dark resistance and then with a Mudoon spell while it's down. All that remains afterward is a pile of Macca where it once stood.]

Kotoha laughs tiredly as she recalls Arthur and Tesla.

"Hahaha...finished!"

She stuffs her helmet into her bag and takes out Zoroark's Pokeball, along with something that looks like a yellow diamond. Releasing the unconscious form of Zoroark, she crumbles the item and carefully feeds it into his mouth. The Pokemon blinks a few times before sitting up and looking around for the demon.

"Sorry, buddy, you missed it. If I had known it was a Fighting-type I wouldn't have sent you."

Zoroark grumbles a little as Kotoha recalls him before walking over to where the Ongyo-ki's staff fell and poking at it curiously.

"Hey Fumi, you have any interest in this?"

Ah, that's Macca. I can find a use for it. At the very least, my demons will want it.

[...]

I should make a point of using them more.

"Okay then; it's all yours. I'll just take this."

With that, Kotoha lifts up the double-bladed staff, staggering a few steps back when it turns out to be much lighter than she expected.

"Still, what was that with our Personas?"

She spares a minute to concentrate and summon forth her Soul Persona, only to see that it's still Mitra, not Victini.

"...some kind of permanent change?"

[Fumi rolls up the sleeve of her jacket, exposing an interesting looking watch - an odd fusion between steampunk tech and more modern computerized fare.]

I'm not sure, but I'll find out.

Kotoha looks at the watch curiously.

"...that looks new."

It is. Agatha and I developed it together. It's a wrist-mounted monitoring device that continually records and remotely transmits all of my vitals to a centralized data bank.

The mention of Fumi's vitals causes Kotoha to sober up. Wiping the palms of her hands on her jeans, she glances at Mitra before bowing deeply to Fumi.

"I'm sorry! If it weren't for this happening we might have died and it would have been all my fault!"

Just for an instant, she remembers seeing Fumi cough up blood and represses a shudder, keeping her head lowered.

No. It would have been my fault too.

[Fumi is more irritated than afraid right now.]

Kotoha straightens up but keeps her gaze averted from Fumi's.

"...I still should have been more prepared."

Pouting over it isn't going to change what happened. If you want to be stronger, then work harder. I'll be doing the same. The important thing is to learn from setbacks and use them to grow.

[As close to a pep talk as Fumi gets.]

Kotoha nods in response, looking between the staff weapon in her hand and the hovering form of Mitra behind her.

"...yeah. If you get defeated, just pick yourself up and try again. That's common sense even back home."

There's a slight pause before Kotoha bursts out laughing, using the staff as a cane to prop herself up.

"Ahahaha! Oh man, how long has it been since I was pushed into a corner like this? Comeback victories like this used to be my specialty, you know! It's been so long since I've had a real challenge I almost forgot what it was like. It's good being strong, but the tradeoff is losing this thrilling feeling of accomplishment..."

With that, she looks directly at Fumi, smiling happily.

"Let's keep getting stronger together, okay? Climbing up to the top is even more fun with a partner to keep you company."

There you go. Worrying and frowning really don't suit you.

[Fumi cracks a smile.]

Yes, that would be an acceptable arrangement.
