Summary: Hizumi’s decided to celebrate his birthday by… Being a friendless loser. Give him some company?
Warnings: Sad Devils who are sad and acting anything but.
He’d slipped out early in the morning, quietly exiting before any of his housemates woke up. Thankfully, after living with them for a while, he’d had ample time to more or less figure out their sleeping habits. Although they were by no means 100% predictable, he knew enough to make picking a time to leave simple enough.

And after that… he took to the streets. He's wrapped up quite snugly in his winter clothes for the weather, but he does get a few stares what with being a student who's out and about despite it being a school day. He’d already made sure to get the day off from work some time before, so he was free to do whatever he wanted. So with that in mind, he might as well enjoy his day off, right?

Cancer Ward

Earlier in the day he can be found in one of the arcades that actually has power, playing his way through a variety of games as if it were his God given duty to destroy the high score rankings on every single machine. He won’t hit up all of them, but he’s definitely not picky about which games to play, either. Shooters, fighting, rhythm, racing, simulators, even classic arcade – they’re all fair game!

“C’mooooon… Almost, almost-!”

It's a good thing the owner doesn't appear to care about delinquent students skipping class to play video games.

Virgo Ward

After a morning of gaming and a quick lunch, he’ll be in and out of the many stores of the Virgo Ward, gradually accumulating bags of clothing and games in particular. And yet… Even if he spots your character, he’s more likely to avert his gaze and continue on as if he hadn’t seen them at all. Rather odd behavior, considering how friendly he normally is. Maybe it would be good to go and see what’s up?

Capricorn Ward

In the early evening after school hours, he can be found relaxing on a bench in the park. A box of donuts are at his side along with all of the bags from earlier in the day, and he’s testing out a new handheld with an equally new game. He’s not totally oblivious to his surroundings, but he’s definitely acting like it – his eyes never leave the screen, even as he plucks a donut out with one hand while he balances the handheld on his lap. If you’re lucky, maybe he’ll deign to share some with you!

"Is it impossible to believe that I just like being around you?" He can occupy himself. Probably. Possibly.

Hizumi just gives a light shrug.

"If you insist. I don't have any multi-player games, though."

"That's okay. Back in my day we didn't have these fancy games."

He chuckles a little. He doesn't mind being old.

"Y'know, I'm not sure you ever told me when your day was."

"I was 'born' - sort of - around 1870, as best as I can figure."

...

"Only sort of?"

"Well... tanuki aren't really 'born' the same way. We don't have parents or anything. We kind of just... form." He's never really questioned it.

"...You don't just start out as normal tanuki?" He'd always just kinda assumed, but it seems he assumed wrong.

"Nah. There's some evidence to support that a large population of them increases the chances of one of us showing up, but no one's really sure. At least in my world. I guess one of the gods would know for sure, but..." Annoyed faaaace.

"...Don't really want to deal with them?"

He can understand that kind of sentiment.

"It's kind of complicated. Basically they're handing out power to people in exchange for promises of worship, but the people going after that are exactly the people who shouldn't have that kind of power."

... This is depressing. He reaches over to pat Hizumi on the shoulder. "You don't want to hear about that political stuff, anyway." It's not like he can go back to it.

"I guess it doesn't really affect either of us in the end, huh?"

Himself because it's not even his world, and Taro because... well.

He probably could have worded it better, but he's also not really in the mood to pull much in the way of punches.

"Yeah." He smiles a little bit. "Though I'm glad I came here, because I got to meet you."

"You sure? Ayumu and I - we've been causin' a lot of trouble for you."

On multiple occasions, even.

"Is it really that worth it?"

"Yeah. You're good people. I don't have to hide anything around you. I can... I can be as normal as this place gets. I've had a weird sort of 'normal' at home, but I was always hiding. Here, I can be as free as everyone else."

... As he says it, he drops his illusion and looks up at Hizumi. His eyes are a little watery, but he smiles. "So... thanks."

Ah... this is getting a lot more serious than he'd intended. After a moment's hesitation, he finally sets aside the game.

"Hey, quit that. I'm the one who's supposed to be all sentimental today."

He reaches out and gives Taro a pat on the head.

He chuckles a little and nuzzles into Hizumi's hand.

"Sorry about that."

He'll just keep patting Taro on the head as long as Taro stays still enough.

"...Really, though. You don't have to stick around for the rest of the night. I'm not planning to ditch you guys or anything.

I'll go back later."

He's pretty fond of that place - his home, at this point. Even a day like this wouldn't be enough to keep him away.

"Good. Because we care about you."

He doesn't move much, just enough to curl up next to Hizumi. Furry armrest time.

Furry armrest indeed. And since everything seems to have been settled acceptably, he'll go ahead and pick up his game again. Let's see, before he stopped playing he was--

"--Eh... I died?!!"

Such woe is he!

Oh noooooo! Taro nudges him encouragingly. Or what he hopes is encouragingly, anyway.

"That's what continues are for, right?"

"Are you kidding-?! I just lost a whole hour of grinding!"

This might not have been a problem if he actually was in a habit of saving often, but well.

"Well, why didn't you save?" Nope, no sympathy Hizumi.

"I didn't think I'd have to! They were all easy fights anyway!"

This is totally not his fault okay!

It totally is though.

"Maybe you'll remember now."
