destinystrings | 01 - Selphie's Merry Christmas

Where: Pisces Ward, Level 5
Summary: Selphie is decorating for Christmas! Yay!
Warnings: Singing and lots of Christmas cheer, and a clutz on a ladder.

Christmas time! Selphie's been around her new home for almost a month and gradually, bit by bit, she's getting more used to the place. The fact that Christmas is coming up is keeping her happy, and busy. But she doesn't have a job yet, and her money's running low, so as much as she'd like the decorations to be magical or splendid, all she has is some cheap tinsel.

Does that bother Selphie? Not in the slightest. She's done decorating her room, and now she's moved out into the hallway. Lucky people who live on her floor! She's managed to find herself a ladder and, given that she's pretty tiny, she's standing on it quite high, reaching up to tape tinsel along the ceiling. There are strands of red and gold, and she's doing her best to keep the tinsel straight and stopping it from dipping too low over the doorways to each department. For the clumsy girl that she is, the whole scenario is a little precarious. But it's jolly and cheerful too, as Selphie sings loudly as she goes along, whistling and humming when she forgets the words to the Christmas songs she knows.

Link, tired as always, was making his way back home from his second job when he found his familiar hallway to be... brighter than before.

It doesn't take him long to spot the source of the shininess--which means Selphie's got a little elf boy...I mean, shorter-than-average teenage human with pointy ears looking up at her.

"What are you doing?"

Selphie had been so busy singing and concentrating on her decorating that she was struck by surprise to hear the voice. She let out a squeal, wobbling slightly on the ladder, but she steadies herself by pushing herself against the wall.

"Oh! Hello! I'm decorating for Christmas ~ do you like it?"

"It's...bright," he says, squinting up at the tinsel. "What's Christmas?"

"Uh huh! It's supposed to be bright, and pretty!" She grins and moves down off the ladder carefully, "It's not a holiday from my world, but it was a holiday in lots of other people's worlds. You give gifts to your friends and your loved ones and celebrate together."

"...wh-when is it? Do I have to do it?"

OH MAN WHAT'S HE-- well, he's almost done with that wood carving...

Selphie just blinks at that - not quite a reaction she was expecting, "Uhm...it's in a few weeks. But you don't haveta if you don't wanna."

"...oh."

Falling back down to earth, or as close to the earth as a child from the sky can get, "Isn't it rude not to do things on holidays, though? That's why I was worried. I don't want to be rude."

Selphie tilts her head as she looks at the boy, "Well...maybe. So long as you're not rude to other people about it. You'd be missing out on a whole load of fun though, if you didn't." And she motions to the tinsel all around the ceiling.

Which he looks at. "...this isn't a gift to someone, is it?"

Selphie giggles but she shakes her head, "I guess it's a gift to my neighbours! But nah, it's just for decoration, to make everyone happy!"

"Oh. Well, I think it's kind of weird, but it looks nice!"

Weird? Selphie pulls a face at that a little, but smiles gently, "Well, thanks! I hope you like it!"

He caught that face, missy!

"I mean, where I'm from, we don't have shiny stuff like that. Although the Bazaar is kind of the same, it just has a lot of lights instead."

Selphie clears her throat at the mention of lights and looks a little forlorn at the tinsel, "Lights would be much better. I just couldn't afford them, is all.."

"How much are they? If they aren't too much, and if you really want them, I could get them for you."

Link: always caring about other people's side-quests.

That question gets a look of surprise from Selphie and she waves her hands quickly, "No, no, don't silly! But that's really sweet of you to offer, though. Thank you."

"It's really no big deal," he says with a chuckle. "I'm working two jobs. Saving up to get a bigger apartment, but I've got money to spare."

Selphie's still shaking her head, looking much amused, "Really, you're very kind, but I don't mind. I'll just wait until I find a job someplace."

She looks the boy over again, "A bigger apartment? For just you?" After all, she might only be new here but she figured her own apartment was big enough.

"Not...really. It's for me and someone else on this floor."

"A friend? Or...?" He did seem a little young to be moving in with a girlfriend. "And - do you think they'll like the tinsel?"

"Yeah, a friend. I think he'd like the tinsel. His name's Link. Um, like me. I guess...I didn't introduce myself..."

But what about a Zelda fight?!

"Oh! So...you guys both live here, but you want a bigger place together?"

She supposed that made sense, even if they did live on the same floor. Besides, she looks pleased to hear that he'd like it too, "Your name is Link as well? You and your friend?"

His Zelda would win because she's overpowered.

Link nods. "Yeah. We're from the same world. He sort of looks like me, too."

"Wow. So are you twins? Did you know him before? Or did you just meet him in this world?"

She's just curious - there are all sorts of weird ways to meet people these days.

"Um, we're not... We could be related, but... We're not from the same time. So he's not my twin."

But he has taken to calling him big brother.
