01: Exploring!

Summary: Yamato exploring the surroundings of where he lives. Stop being a hermit, Yamoeto.

It had taken some internal coaxing, but Yamato finally decided to explore the surrounding area. He could hardly reside in a place where he was ignorant of the local geography after all. What are the main buildings, what is the population of people, what is the strategic and defensive capabilities of such an area, etc, etc...

Normally his subordinates carried out such checks, but Yamato knew how to do it himself. It was strange to do it without a gaggle of peons at his heels, though, clucking and chattering about this and that. He actually felt a bit...naked without them. He never realised how vulnerable he felt without them.

Not to say that he couldn't defend himself. He could. It still just felt odd not to have his usual resources at his command. To begin from scratch... although not that Yamato was planning on starting from scratch. What was the point...? This wasn't Japan, and he had no stakes in defending this strange place from threats - not unless it was to preserve his own renewed life.

Without a purpose...it was both terrifying and liberating. He could choose his own purpose now, although Yamato hadn't the slightest clue on where to begin.

So he wandered Libra's streets, hoping he would stumble across something at the very least.

"Hmm...I thought so," Yamato mused, not at all embarrassed about being ignorant of something commonly known. "Civilians come up with the strangest of cuisines. It makes me curious to know what else they have."

Naoya's quiet for a moment before answering.

"I'm going to have to educate you about civilians, aren't I?"

[drakenguard]

"Hm, perhaps. I can admit that this is a situation I am ignorant of," Yamato said easily. He was a prideful man, but Yamato could admit his ignorance whenever it occurred. He was ignorant of civilians, he was ignorant of a normal life, and this did set him at a slight disadvantage in his current situation.

There was no JP's as back up here, no Hotsuin Family to tell him what he was meant to do and to give him everything he needed. This was true survival of the fittest, he supposed. He would have to learn quickly to survive in his new surroundings.

Perhaps a bit dramatic, but it was true.

"Do you know how to cook for yourself, buy food, or wash your own clothing?" Let's just... start with the basics.

"No."

No for all of them. Yamato says this with a straight face and without a shred of shame.

[meaningdies]

"..." Naoya takes a deep breath.

"After we look for chargers, I'm taking you to the market." There's no argument in his tone.

[drakenguard]

Yamato just looked amused, a faint smile on his lips. "The market? Hrm, oh, yes, that is where civilians purchase produce, correct?"

[meaningdies]

"Yes. We're going to at least get you some healthy meals. Then I'm going to show you how to make them." They can deal with laundry later.

[drakenguard]

"Hn, you will be my tutor?" Yamato asked, chuckling a little. "Very well. I know that I won't survive long without these skills, so I accept."

How hard could it be anyway? Yamato was at a college level education by the time he was ten - it would be easy to learn something even the dimmest of civilians could grasp.

Ah, famous last words.

Famous last words indeed. But they're nearing the electronic shops, and Naoya peers at some of them. Some of the technology here is new to him, but most of them seem to have their purposes evident enough.

[drakenguard]

Yamato frowned up at a few of the shop signs, then down at the window as if trying to match up the shops' names with their merchandise. "Why do civilians pick the strangest of names...?"

[meaningdies]

"Marketing." Naoya looked over at him and grinned. "It got you to stop, didn't it? That's the idea. They want you to stop and look at the products, which raises the likelihood of you purchasing them."

[drakenguard]

"I see," Yamato appeared to log this away. "Hrm, that is quite clever. I suppose it explains why some of these signs are also in garish colours." Or lit up. Very eye-catching.

Very headache-inducing.

"Well we are looking for a specific product, correct? Technological appliances."

So phase out the other shop's attempts to catch their attention - even if Yamato was itching with curiosity to explore. He had self-control as any leader would.

"Exactly. Marketing strategies are quite obvious once you know what to look for." His tone was even more bored than usual - marketing really wasn't his favorite subject.

"Yes. Generally power adapters are quite boxy, though with the types here it's difficult to say."

[drakenguard]

"Hm. It would be simpler to ask for them," Yamato remarked, glancing at the shops with a faint frown. Yes, shops should have assistances, correct? The masses were a rather stupid lot, so they would need people in shops to help direct them to their needed products.

[meaningdies]

"... True." But. But his pride. Fine. He'll go talk to them.

[drakenguard]

There was a faint smirk tugging at Yamato's lips now at that brief pause Naoya gave. He supposed it would be a blow to one's pride to ask for help, but it was only for directions - necessary directions.

So Yamato chose one of the electronic shops at random, striding in like a man on a mission. Well he was on a mission. Now, one of the assistants...of course Yamato's plan was to simply find one of them and demand them to take them to their chargers - he never really 'asked' for things, neither did he have any manners.

Yamato. Manners. Please. Naoya rolled his eyes and followed along, letting the assistant direct them to the right section of the store. Some of these components would be useful later... though first he had to get a job.

... To his surprise, there did seem to be a charger for his COMP. He picked it up, blinking a little. Well. That went better than expected.

Yamato didn't see anything wrong in intimidating the workers to do their bidding (even if he did go a little overboard with this one, the poor assistant was practically quailing in their shoes), especially when it got the needed results. Phone chargers.

Yamato eyed them, trying to gauge which one was better. They had different names, and maybe different looks, but they all served the correct purpose, correct? Numbers were higher on some, and lower on others. Did it matter which one...?

Ugh. Naoya pulled one off the shelf and handed it to Yamato. "Provided your cellphone is a more or less standard model from a hardware standpoint, use this one. A lower one won't have enough power, a higher one will fry the circuitry."

[drakenguard]

"Hrm, I see," Yamato said, taking the charger. Ah, right, yes, he sees the volt box now. Now to purchase it - a simple enough thing. He expected anyway. He merely wrote cheques whenever he had to buy things before, although the process was a bit different now from what he gathered.

[meaningdies]

Naoya frowned, pulling out his card. Would he have enough money? ... He'd have to get a job soon. He could make decent meals with cheap things.

"Take it and your identification card to the sales assistant."

[drakenguard]

Yamato frowned slightly. Right, that was obvious. A bit disgruntled at himself for failing to figure out this simple thing, Yamato made his way over to the till. He can pay without help from here on out!

[meaningdies]

Good. Naoya watched, and once he was satisfied Yamato'd completed the transaction, he purchased his own charger, then tucked it in his pocket. "Good. Now we won't have to worry. Unless the power goes out."

If that happened, well. He'd deal with it.

Yamato nodded. Well then, now that they had their necessities...

"You also said something about food?"
