Do You Really Need So Many Brands Of The Same Thing?
Who: Yamato Hotsuin and Miki Sanada
helenchanted
Where: Virgo Ward
When: Backdated to 28th Jan
Summary: Shopping. That's it. And Yamato's inability to do normal things.
Warnings: None.
Grocery shopping. It was an incredibly mundane activity that Yamato found ridiculously difficult for reasons unbeknownst to him. Perhaps managing money that went into the millions and billions made him unable to gauge value of things that went by only the hundreds or thousands of yen.
Wasn't there a condition relating to that in East Germany? Zero Stroke or something...
Well, that was only one half of the problem. He was also unsure on what to get. It was easy to compose a list of groceries in his mind - he needed 'milk', 'bread', 'etc' - but the shelves were stocked with hundred of variations of the same things, all in different ways. Reading the ingredients or the little information texts on the wrapping never really imparted much information on what made them so different, and he normally just got confused and simply grabbed whatever looked the best.
As such, he viewed grocery shopping as both boring and daunting.
That day, Yamato's greatest challenge was 'the bread'. Brown, white, malt, seeded, farmhouse, sliced, unsliced, some other variation here... Yamato just slowly looked down the entire aisle of bread and internally wished he could simply pay someone to shop for him. He would order his demons to shop for him but, demons were not good judges in human food...

As she walked with a small shopping cart in hand already filled with vegetables, she spotted someone that looked completely out of his element.
"Oh! Hello!" She gave him a quick small bow as she tried to remember his name from the videos on the network. "...Yamato-san, correct?"
no subject
Yamato tore his attention away from where he had been trying to burn holes into the nearest shelf of bread, and glanced at the woman. Oh, hm, she looked vaguely familiar in some way, but he honestly could not recall her name. They must've met for her to know his name, though. Probably.
"Yes. Have we met?"
no subject
"I don't think so," she explained, tapping her shopping cart in thought. "I saw you in video a few times in the network. You work with Ideo?"
no subject
Yes, that was right. He had seen her several times on the network as well, although he had never been interested enough to actually see what she said. He tilted his head in acknowledgement, adjusting the shopping basket hanging off of his forearm. He never bought enough to justify pushing around a shopping cart, after all.
"...yes, that's right," Yamato replied after a pause. This woman's name was not leaping out at him. What was it... "Who are you?"
Eh, she'll tell him.

"Even back in Port Island I didn't see such a variety of breads. I guess it's because there's a bigger culture mixture here." As she spoke, she reached out and grabbed three loaves before explaining herself. "Oh! Before you start thinking I eat all of this, I just like to cook for my friends and family."
That would probably explain why her cart was already half full of things.
"I just need to pick up so coconut bread from the bakery and I'll be set!"
Coconut bread?

Yamato echoed his confusion, his eyebrows drawing together in exasperation. Why did civilians make so many weird and wonderful things in the world of food? They could certainly make nice things, but Yamato honestly did not need another variety of bread on top of the others he was already evaluating.
"If I recall, coconut is a drupe..." That doesn't sound like it can go into bread very well!

She stopped when she noticed his confusion and pointed towards another alley.
"...Maybe it would be easier to show them to you than to explain it. It's not far."
no subject
Well, why not? Yamato found his interest peaked by this 'coconut bread', and if he liked it, he could cross one challenge off of the grocery store chore. Just get coconut bread every time.
"Very well. Lead the way."
