A year might seem so little at first, but for a city like Hinoto-Ri, progress had been steady. And how would it have been without you? Hard to say. Regardless, there were some appreciative people of your hard work, and thus you were warned ahead of time of a little celebration that would be held in your honor, this Friday (FRIDAY! FRIDAY!)

Nothing too outrageous, you had been promised. After all, budgets had to be made and citizens had to be saved. Something more akin to a fun party with friends and the city. An open note sent out to all citizens if they so wanted to join in.

There was quite a turnout! The lure of fun and food drew people from all the wards and words of encouragement and thanks were given to you freely. Maybe because some of them had drank too much sake.

The booths are bustling with activity. There's food for everyone as merchants try to outdo each other with both traditional food and more exotic ones; Corn on the cob, Pumpkins, Yaki Imo (Oven-Roasted Sweet Potatoes), Ramen stands, Falafel, caramelized apples, octopus sausages on sticks...

There are also signup sheets for competitions tonight. While townspeople can join, the big draw is to see the Visitors attempt the typical school festivals, such as the swimsuit competition and the dress competition (for both male and women!).

...yeah maybe they just have a good sense of humor. Which is good! A happy city means, at least, for a little while, people can forget what's happening and maybe the place is going to flourish more with hope.

So hopefully you can show them that by enjoying yourselves!

Desco's main claim to fame is that time she incited a panicked mob. Well, that, and the often bizarre conversations she tends to have on the Visitor's Network.

Which is why she's currently hovering in front of the stall scowling, with her claws on her hips.

"Desco cannot believe that there isn't even a poster of her here!"

[--Well, that snaps her out of it at least.]

You couldn't possibly want to be up there... do you?

"Of course Desco does! She is the Queen of Earth! Humans should be putting up posters of her and bowing before them in supplication, praying that she passes them by!"

[eyewillprotect]

[This again...]

I don't think it's meant to be flattering...

[tyrantball]

"...huh? Why not?"

Tread carefully around the four-year old, Aoi.

[She'll try...]

These pictures are just to make money. I never agreed to this, but they went ahead and took pictures without my knowing and are selling them to make a profit.

It's not worship, it's exploitation.

Desco looks thoughtful for a moment before slamming clenched claws into the palm of her other hand in a 'a-ha!' gesture.

"Oh! Desco has heard of that! It's a kind of movie, right?"

Desco is very smart for a small child, but there's still things she plain doesn't know.

They're using us for their own profit, even though it means doing creepy things like taking pictures without our permission. It isn't something to be happy about.

Desco actually thinks about this for a while.

"...Desco thinks she won't begrudge them their profits, since humans lead such sad, tiny lives and can't afford to buy nice things most of the time."

But that doesn't make it right-!

"But it's not wrong, either. Secret photos aren't on Desco's list of Evil Deeds, so they aren't doing something bad!"

Pause for thought.

"Desco will allow it is kind of pathetic, though."

But it is. It's-- It's taking advantage of people without their knowing!

[Of course that's bad!]

Desco is struggling with this concept.

"So...now that you know, does that mean it isn't bad anymore?"

No, it doesn't. I'm not the only victim of this-- there are many other too, who still have no idea. It would be one thing if we gave our consent, but in this case, I don't think anyone was told about it beforehand.

[tyrantball]

Desco grumbles and crosses her arms over her chest.

"Desco doesn't really get how that works. But she'll try and understand, since she's the ruler of the Earth and you are her important subjects."

Her red-eyed gaze snaps back up to Aoi's face and she dramatically levels a claw.

"Okay! Preachy Lady! Queen Desco is officially appointing you her Human Thought Advisor! Your new job is to explain human morality to Desco, so she at least knows what to be confused about!"

Preachy...?

[Desco, what are you doing.]

I'm afraid I don't understand...

[Human Thought Advisor???]

"Oh right. If you're Desco's newest advisor, she should know your name."

Nodding.

"Little courtesies like that keep the political machine running smoothly, you know!"

[What is even going on at this point…]

…My name is Aoi Misato. You aren’t… serious about making me your advisor, are you?

[tyrantball]

"But...you kind of already are Desco's advisor, you know? Every time we talk, you try and explain human morality to Desco. All that's changed is that now Desco will actually try to listen!"

Desco floats a little closer and pats Aoi reassuringly on the shoulder.

"Desco doesn't promise she'll understand - humans are very complicated, after all - but she'll at least listen. This is the absolute least she can do as a benevolent tyrannical dictator!"

[eyewillprotect]

[Benevolent, but still tyrannical, she says… Aoi gives a slight shake of her head at the thought. But if Desco will actually listen this way, then maybe…]
