A year might seem so little at first, but for a city like Hinoto-Ri, progress had been steady. And how would it have been without you? Hard to say. Regardless, there were some appreciative people of your hard work, and thus you were warned ahead of time of a little celebration that would be held in your honor, this Friday (FRIDAY! FRIDAY!)

Nothing too outrageous, you had been promised. After all, budgets had to be made and citizens had to be saved. Something more akin to a fun party with friends and the city. An open note sent out to all citizens if they so wanted to join in.

There was quite a turnout! The lure of fun and food drew people from all the wards and words of encouragement and thanks were given to you freely. Maybe because some of them had drank too much sake.

The booths are bustling with activity. There's food for everyone as merchants try to outdo each other with both traditional food and more exotic ones; Corn on the cob, Pumpkins, Yaki Imo (Oven-Roasted Sweet Potatoes), Ramen stands, Falafel, caramelized apples, octopus sausages on sticks...

There are also signup sheets for competitions tonight. While townspeople can join, the big draw is to see the Visitors attempt the typical school festivals, such as the swimsuit competition and the dress competition (for both male and women!).

...yeah maybe they just have a good sense of humor. Which is good! A happy city means, at least, for a little while, people can forget what's happening and maybe the place is going to flourish more with hope.

So hopefully you can show them that by enjoying yourselves!

Ruri flushes a bit red again and shakes her head.

"I'm just Ruri, I wouldn't worry about anything else. Besides, there are other contestants that looked better."

"Don't say that!"

Kotoha pauses, stunned - who said that?

Oh. She did. Well then, in for a penny, in for a pound.

"Just...stop undervaluing yourself, please? You may not think you're beautiful, but I do, and it's...it hurts a little, that you don't even seem to consider that I'm being serious."

She pauses, then, and drags one hand down her face and takes a deep breath before continuing in a more measured tone.

"It's fine if you don't want to respond to that right now, just...just think about it, okay?"

She shakes her head a bit.

"No, its just I learned that if you accept high praise, it is hard to live up to. Mr. Prospector said right before he let me go 'Ruri, you are Ruri and nothing else. That's the best thing you can be and as long as you remember that you can be anything.' So I've tried to keep that thought. That and Omoikane handles the things that involve having an ego."

She smiles a bit and nods.

Kotoha fiddles with her visor again, then starts nervously twirling one of her ponytails.

"I-I'm not really trying to praise you, though? I just...I think you're beautiful, so it's more like...I'm just telling you so, that's all. I-if that makes sense? It's...not about giving you compliments or buttering you up, I'm just...telling the truth. So it felt like you were calling me a liar, I guess, like I had an ulterior motive or something. Agggh!"

Kotoha lets out a short scream of frustration and throws her arms in the air before slumping a little and letting out a small chuckle.

"I'm not usually this tongue-tied, haha."

Ruri just shakes her head a bit.

"I'm sorry."

She leans in and gives the other girl a light hug.

"I didn't think there were any ulterior motives, I just really don't want to get a big head. Its just how I'm an idiot."

Kotoha freezes up at the hug and blushes crimson.

"Aba ebbe um."

Oh, and there's also some incoherent stammering. Can't forget the stammering.

"Are you all right? I think I missed that."

"Um. Uh."

Kotoha once more yanks her visor down and glances away.

"I, uh...if I look at you while you're wearing that I...can'treallythinkstraight."

The last part of the sentence comes out in a jumbled rush.

"Well, after the judging I'll change. The pyrojacks don't have very good taste anyways."

She shrugs a bit.

Kotoha fervently tries to look at anything but Ruri.

"...good enough to me..."

Given how she muttered that under her breath, it probably wasn't intended to be heard.

Ruri just looks at the stage, either not hearing or ignoring that statement.
