A year might seem so little at first, but for a city like Hinoto-Ri, progress had been steady. And how would it have been without you? Hard to say. Regardless, there were some appreciative people of your hard work, and thus you were warned ahead of time of a little celebration that would be held in your honor, this Friday (FRIDAY! FRIDAY!)

Nothing too outrageous, you had been promised. After all, budgets had to be made and citizens had to be saved. Something more akin to a fun party with friends and the city. An open note sent out to all citizens if they so wanted to join in.

There was quite a turnout! The lure of fun and food drew people from all the wards and words of encouragement and thanks were given to you freely. Maybe because some of them had drank too much sake.

The booths are bustling with activity. There's food for everyone as merchants try to outdo each other with both traditional food and more exotic ones; Corn on the cob, Pumpkins, Yaki Imo (Oven-Roasted Sweet Potatoes), Ramen stands, Falafel, caramelized apples, octopus sausages on sticks...

There are also signup sheets for competitions tonight. While townspeople can join, the big draw is to see the Visitors attempt the typical school festivals, such as the swimsuit competition and the dress competition (for both male and women!).

...yeah maybe they just have a good sense of humor. Which is good! A happy city means, at least, for a little while, people can forget what's happening and maybe the place is going to flourish more with hope.

So hopefully you can show them that by enjoying yourselves!

[Nano's smile ever so slowly fades at that.]

...Did you see any of me?

Yeah! There was this really cute beach towel back there.

[She points helpfully.]

B-beach towel? What did it look like?

It was cute! You should come see it.

[Nano hesitates for a moment before nodding.]

...Okay. Can you show me?

Okay!

[She drags Nano over to table that sells various cloth goods. Towels, tote bags, t-shirts, and other things are all folded on the table. Akane lifts up one of the towels to reveal a picture of Nano in one of those white Sunday dresses with a sun hat.]

Isn't it cute?

It's... not as embarrassing as I thought it would be.

[Nano blinks, staring back at the towel.]

But I don't even own a dress like this!

Well, I think they just had someone draw it.

It's cute though! Maybe you should get one.

Wouldn't that be a little strange?

[Toweling off with... herself...]

[Akane giggles.]

No, silly! I meant you should by a dress like that. It would look good on you.

Oh! Right!

[Nano laughs, blushing just a little.]

It is pretty... but it's really more of a spring or summer dress. It'll be too cold to wear something like that soon.

But that means it'll be on sale right now. Right?

[Nano makes the sterotypical 'oh, that's right' anime gesture that involves a balled up fist and the open palm of the other hand that you see all the time in shows but is hard to describe in text, making an O shape with her mouth that is also completely impossible to represent in written form.]

See? Winter is the best time for girls to update their summer wardrobe.

[Someone has been spending her free time at work perusing women's magazines.]

You're very smart, Akane-chan!

[She grins proudly.]

You have to think about that sort of stuff once you're living on your own.

It's true. Saving money by shopping smart is very important.

Yup! I've learned to always wait for bargain sales, and then stock up.

[When did they become middle-aged housewives.]

Sometimes if you wait long enough, the discount merchandise will get marked down again. And you can buy meat for cheaper on the day it's set to expire, so you can make sukiyaki that same night for dinner!

[Sukiyaki being quite the delicacy when you're on a budget like Nano always was at home.]

Ooh, that's a good idea!

[But then she suddenly looks disappointed.]

I don't really know how to make sukiyaki though...

I could show if you'd like!

You will? That sounds like fun!

[Yay, sukiyaki night~]

Hey, maybe we can invite Nik-oji-san too. That way it'll be just like a party.

Do you mind if my roommate is there too? I'm sure Yukko-san would love to meet you both!
