A year might seem so little at first, but for a city like Hinoto-Ri, progress had been steady. And how would it have been without you? Hard to say. Regardless, there were some appreciative people of your hard work, and thus you were warned ahead of time of a little celebration that would be held in your honor, this Friday (FRIDAY! FRIDAY!)

Nothing too outrageous, you had been promised. After all, budgets had to be made and citizens had to be saved. Something more akin to a fun party with friends and the city. An open note sent out to all citizens if they so wanted to join in.

There was quite a turnout! The lure of fun and food drew people from all the wards and words of encouragement and thanks were given to you freely. Maybe because some of them had drank too much sake.

The booths are bustling with activity. There's food for everyone as merchants try to outdo each other with both traditional food and more exotic ones; Corn on the cob, Pumpkins, Yaki Imo (Oven-Roasted Sweet Potatoes), Ramen stands, Falafel, caramelized apples, octopus sausages on sticks...

There are also signup sheets for competitions tonight. While townspeople can join, the big draw is to see the Visitors attempt the typical school festivals, such as the swimsuit competition and the dress competition (for both male and women!).

...yeah maybe they just have a good sense of humor. Which is good! A happy city means, at least, for a little while, people can forget what's happening and maybe the place is going to flourish more with hope.

So hopefully you can show them that by enjoying yourselves!

[Phantom Girl shrugs and consumes one of hers in the space of about a half second.]

So what's all of this, anyway? They're really throwing a party for us?

[He takes his more slowly, licking a bit of the sauce off.]

Looks like it, huh? Why, though? We haven't really done anything.

Well. I can only speak for myself, but this week alone, I fought 17 demons, saved five civilians, and helped two old ladies cross the street.

...I mean, I flew them across, but it amounts to the same.

[resipiscent]

Heheh. Well, you're productive. Maybe I should start a one-on-one taxi service, ferrying people across the city through the Corridors. Thanks for the idea.

[A slight pause.]

What's the Corridors?

[resipiscent]

Well, we just usually call them portals, but they're pathways through the darkness. Like so --

[He holds his hand out, away from her, and beside him sprouts a doorway, oozing blacks and purples. It looks like liquid, or smoke, or something in between. As he lowers his hand again, it vanishes.]

I can't use them to get out of the city, though.

You might have to pay people to step into one of those instead of the other way around.

[Phantom Girl doesn't exactly back up a few steps but she does sway backwards.]

Especially if you're going to describe them that way.

[He laughs, fiddling with a skewer.]

Maybe, huh? They're not dangerous, though, as long as you're with someone who knows how to travel them.

[A slight pause.]

Well. I can't think of any reason for you to lie, so.

Mind if I ask for a demonstration?

[resipiscent]

Uh, sure. Where do you want to go, though?

[He gets up, blinking at her. He wasn't expecting a request, but he can definitely roll with it.]

Surprise me!

...In a good way, though, not in the 'oh hey we're in a demon pit this is definitely surprising' way.

Heheh. Let me think for a sec.

[After a moment, he opens another Corridor with a wave of a hand, then offers the opposite one to Phantom Girl.]

You don't have to shut your eyes, but try to walk where I do.

...Can I just fly along behind you?

[Perhaps that would disrupt his magic somehow. Phantom Girl will take the offered hand with an unnecessary curtsey before following him inside.]

As long as you hold my hand, so you don't get lost.

[He tugs gently, leading her through the door. It's a minute's walk through a black abyss, though oddly they're both perfectly visible, as if there were lots of light. Though nothing is around them, there's an odd sense of being watched, as if something else were in there with them.]

Here we are.

[And then there's almost a rip in space in front of them, and Riku leads the way through to the other side -- they're standing on the overlook of the clock tower train station in Pisces ward.]

I heard this place was here, so... I thought I'd come take a look.

[A slight gasp as she floats out into the night.]

Oh...!

[She releases his hand now and glides a few feet into the air, turning back so she can see where they're standing.]

...So you don't have to know a place to be able to access it? It just sort of... happens?
