Cataclysm [June 8th Open City Log for all Players]

Who: Open to All
Where: INSIDE the city.
When: From the 8th until the early morning of the 9th.
Summary: Something hits the barrier, and the entire city ends up in a state of panic.
Warnings: Depends on the players!

"Good morning, Hinoto-Ri! It is now eight in the morning, and time to buckle down for most of the working population! Please work hard for the sake of the city! Thank you! Weather today is more rain in the next hour and more rain until night in all the wards, no exceptions! The rain from the past few days continues to pour and--wait...what's that noise?"

A rumble was the first warning that something was wrong. The bustle of animals trying to escape the city was next, as birds gathered in the sky circling, unable to leave. It wasn't too long before the worst happened. Perhaps due to the morning fog and bad weather, it was impossible to see the giant object before it was too late, as it slammed against the city's protective barrier.

The entire city shook and was awoken to the sharp, painful sound of what could almost be a bomb going off, impossible to ignore. Buildings broke down as a giant earthquake rumbled for a few seconds, leaving in its wake a carnage of overturned vehicles, collapsing buildings and debris free-falling everywhere- the epicenter in the Leo Ward.

Whatever had caused this had already disappeared from view... Yet, those that had seen it crash would have noticed a large black form over city hall. A sort of stain in the barrier. Then, to the sound of screeching and windows breaking, a single giant piece of the crystal-like substance began to crack above in the sky, falling onto town hall. Just one piece, perhaps small compared to the barrier itself, but more than enough to cause severe property damage, sending half of the building tumbling right into the police headquarters and destroying part of that too.

Electricity went out in Leo, plunging the ward into near darkness. Apart from the hospital that instantly ran on auxiliary power, of course. The public network went down, depriving Hinoto-Ri of communication between the public, leaving only the visitor's own.

And while the barrier still held up, a very thin strand separating the world outside from Hinoto-Ri was now visible above the Leo Ward, casting a strange light over the carnage.

From the other wards, not everyone would know what happened right away. It almost seemed impossible, after all. A nightmare come to life.

It was over in barely a minute, but the city's entire face had drastically changed.

[OOC: This is the first of the upcoming event logs, and will take place on June 8th exclusively!

As of a note, that night, the 13TH HOUR WILL LAST 2 HOURS INSTEAD OF ONE so if you want to include that in one of your prompts, please go for it!

Characters can start their own threads, or reply to others. Subjects can be anything you think would make logical send during this day; keep in mind the city is in a state of panic and the public network is down, so anything goes from trying to save their apartments, to helping civilians to realizing what's going on during the 13 Hour. Make sure you mark down the time of your post so that other players are aware of when it's happening.

If you want information about the event, the post is here. Characters are HIGHLY encouraged to mingle with each other. NPCs and demons may show up in certain threads too, so keep your eyes peeled and have fun with each other!

A note to new players; there will be another log posted on the 9th for new players who wish to show up behind the barrier.]

Takakage nodded. Hinoto-Ri was indeed a peaceful place, relative to his homeworld - his previous time spent here was live proof. But it seemed that disasters would strike at the least expected moment.

More reason to find out why.

"Once this event is over, I suppose we would have an easier time."

"Yeah. I imagine that... well, I guess it was normal for you, but having to deal with clan politics and battles and stuff would kind of make you have to grow up fast."

And that's just not fair, in his opinion.

There was a pause before he replied.

"That is true. Such an environment fosters early maturity, but only for those with enough fortitude to cope."

He could think of many examples of individuals who were not. Most prominently, his son.

"True. Still, I guess it didn't give you a lot of time to be a kid..."

He tilted his head a little. "If you mean childhood pastimes in the conventional sense, then... yes." There were so many tasks that needed attending to. "We had to learn how to navigate the intrigues of politics very quickly. Treaty hostages were the norm..."

His eldest brother had been sent to another family at the mere age of eight - though Takamoto was the only one who retained the Mouri surname. The other two boys had been sent to different families.

"Yeah. ... Well, maybe here you can catch up a little. If you want, I mean. And I'd be happy to help." His smile was a little smaller this time. He knew it was normal in other times but it was still just... strange, to him.

"Ah, that would be great." He gave Taro a smile. lt would be interesting to get to know what the people of the future did in their childhood. And experience it, too. From what he had read, their simple games were similar, but technology played a great part in alternative options.

"But after the city is removed from danger, of course." Priorities.

[personal profile] hachitaro 2014-06-13 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Right, of course. Or at least as much as we can. It's... there's a lot of hostile supernatural creatures here. There are some peaceful ones, but... I don't know. It's not the same as in my world. They're not such a small minority that there's pressure to not make trouble. In mine there's not a lot of us, and humans would be able to take a lot of us out easily."

He shook his head. "I don't like fighting them. It feels kind of wrong."

[personal profile] thirdarrow 2014-06-13 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Takakage nodded. "From what I know, most of the supernatural creatures here fall under the demonic category, and they are hostile to most everyone. I've read a few sources citing that they prey on humans - though they did not mention whether you fall under that category." He supposed it depended on how Taro chose to appear as. "As for their exact origins... I am not sure on this point, but I do not think they are native creatures. Recent arrivals, perhaps. So they are not in the same class as your kin."

He sighed briefly before continuing. "I agree... violence only necessitates more violence. But for now, it seems that no other consensus can be reached..."
hachitaro: (suspicious.)

[personal profile] hachitaro 2014-06-13 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
"There's some in the Taurus district that... well. Some of them feed on humans but there's some that make a... consensual arrangement." Why go through the trouble of hunting town unwilling prey when there's some that'll come to you. "But yeah, there's a lot of creatures here that aren't native. It's kind of..."

Taro sighed, and then let out a short chuckle. "Actually, you might understand this. Where I'm from, I did a lot of work trying to get the various nonhuman people from Japan and areas near it to function in a somewhat stable government. Though 'government' is kind of a bad term for it. It's really more of a patched-together group of fragile alliances held together by fear and a little bit of reason. But no one here is really up for that kind of arrangement, since the circumstances are a lot different. So I don't... really know what to do."

He nodded at the last part, though. "Yeah. I just... I mean I can fire a gun but I'd probably spook myself more than anything else. I can turn into something fierce and dangerous for a bit but then I'm kind of useless afterwards and I'm not even that good at fighting like that. I wage war with words and illusions, not swords and guns. I'm kind of out of my element here."

Takakage listened to Taro patiently, nodding once or twice to indicate that he was following the other's train of thought. Though he only speaks a good half-minute after the tanuki finished.

"Yes... I can indeed understand." His words were careful. "While the clans of my era may be alliances of humans, there is a limit to how much rationality this imparts." A pause. "From my own personal experience and also historical anecdotes, it seems that without a strong leader, only a common enemy can suffice to unite the people. And even then, it tends to crumble apart easily, too..."

The strategist inhaled deeply before continuing.

"Though... this time, there is still hope. The people of Hinoto-Ri are rational, and the leadership has still held. With the help of the Visitors... maybe this will be over without much mishap."

He closed his eyes briefly. "I suppose fighting is just not something present in our nature. But... I hope you can defend yourself?"
hachitaro: (unsure.)

[personal profile] hachitaro 2014-06-14 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. We'll make it through this. And I can defend myself with my Persona." Just not terribly well, but that's what Ame-no-Uzume's skills were built for - distraction and agility and running the hell away.

"Well, that is good to hear." He nodded slightly.

They had cleared the Aquarius Ward, and were now entering the Pisces Ward. Pieces of broken facades and plasterwork began littering the streets - and more people, too. In the distance, there seemed to be smoke rising from a hidden building.

"The people here don't seem to be too badly injured." The stategist said after a pause. "Though... wait. Is... something on fire?"

He indicated the plume of smoke.

[personal profile] hachitaro 2014-06-15 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's good, I - ... crap." That sure is something on fire. He's not really eager to go inside something burning, but they can't just leave people there. "Neither of my Persona have water skills..."

"I do."Takakage's voice is still calm, but now with an edge of determination. "If anyone's trapped in there, they'll need all the help they can get."

He closed his eyes and focused for a moment, calling outt Koppa Tengu.

"Shall we?"
hachitaro: (unsure.)

[personal profile] hachitaro 2014-06-16 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Taro nodded. This... was not going to be fun, but they had to do it. "Let's get going."
