Summary: Yamato exploring the surroundings of where he lives. Stop being a hermit, Yamoeto.

It had taken some internal coaxing, but Yamato finally decided to explore the surrounding area. He could hardly reside in a place where he was ignorant of the local geography after all. What are the main buildings, what is the population of people, what is the strategic and defensive capabilities of such an area, etc, etc...

Normally his subordinates carried out such checks, but Yamato knew how to do it himself. It was strange to do it without a gaggle of peons at his heels, though, clucking and chattering about this and that. He actually felt a bit...naked without them. He never realised how vulnerable he felt without them.

Not to say that he couldn't defend himself. He could. It still just felt odd not to have his usual resources at his command. To begin from scratch... although not that Yamato was planning on starting from scratch. What was the point...? This wasn't Japan, and he had no stakes in defending this strange place from threats - not unless it was to preserve his own renewed life.

Without a purpose...it was both terrifying and liberating. He could choose his own purpose now, although Yamato hadn't the slightest clue on where to begin.

So he wandered Libra's streets, hoping he would stumble across something at the very least.

Ah, whatever trickery you planned, Naoya, Yamato was used to a certain someone appearing suddenly behind him. The space between his shoulder blades itched, and he tensed up briefly - half expecting Alcor. He pivoted sharply on his heel, a sharp frown on his face-

Only to immediately ease off when he recognised that interesting person...Naoya, wasn't it?

"Hm? I did not know you resided in this district."

He chuckled, and shook his head. "I don't. I thought it would be wise to find out where the other housing district was as well, though."

Naoya took a few steps back, giving the boy some space. He seemed the type to need it.

Yamato did prefer his personal space, and he shifts slightly, slipping his hands into his coat's pockets. "I see. Yes, I am also...investigating the city layout." A pause. "Which housing district are you from? Pisces?"

"That's right. I did want to talk to you, though I didn't set out today with the intention of finding you." He shrugged a little. "Did you have a specific plan of where to go today?"

"No," Yamato replied, glancing away to scrutinise the skyline. "I have no plan."

Well if that wasn't a sentence with multiple meanings...

... Yeah. Pretty much.

"Then walk with me." He turns and starts heading towards the Cancer district. "We might as well talk now since you don't have any plans."

Yamato hesitated for only a split second before striding after Naoya, quickly catching up to him. "Where is it that you intend to go?"

"The Cancer district. I need to find a charger for my COMP, and you might as well find one for your phone. It would be a pain to not be able to access your Demon Summoning App." He fell silent for a moment.

"Of course, if they don't have one, I can likely modify something to make one, or find a way to downgrade the voltage on one if I have to."

Yamato was quiet for a moment, his eyes slightly narrowed in thought. He didn't want to drift too far from his 'base', so to speak, until he had a better mental map of the surrounding area, especially if he was alone. Naoya was an interesting man, however Yamato trusted him about as far as he could throw him.

After a moment he decided that there wasn't much he could do given the circumstances. He did need a charger. "I see. We were given funds as well, weren't we..."

Yamato wasn't sure what to do with money. If he needed something, JP's naturally got it, no matter the cost. Food was given to him through JP's, as well as any other necessities. He never had to handle money in his life. Not to say he didn't know the basics of financing, he did, it was just...new. Like everything else here.

Ahaha, he once asked Hiro to teach him a normal life. It seemed like Yamato would be getting a crash course.

"We were. Not much, so hopefully I can find some work in that district as well. That's not my aim today, though." He waited for the boy to stop hesitating, before walking along with him.

Once they were slightly away from the housing, Naoya spoke again. "How much do you know about programming? I want to ask questions about your Demon Summoning Program, but there's no point in overloading you with terms that you'll be hopelessly lost in."

"Programmer is not my specific role, however I understands the basics," Yamato replied. 'Basics' for him meant he knew his way around a computer quite well, and could keep up with Fumi - the genius of machines - whenever she discussed the mechanics of the Terminals or the Demon Summoning Program. "I will be able to understand the terms you use, in any case."

"Good. Now, I assume your program had some sort of server protocol to transmit the data between the demon world and your world. Would you happen to know where said server was? Or what form it took on? It would be interesting to know if the same sort of server ended up taking on similar forms in both of our worlds."

Naoya's tone is light, conversational, as if they're talking about the weather rather than summoning demons.

... It's more interesting than the weather, at least.

"The server is actually a bit of a mystery," Yamato began after a moment of thought. "The Demon Summoning App that I possess is the more efficient version from a website called 'Nicaea'. A...certain administrator of that site is the only one who knows what the server is, however-"

Yamato closes his eyes briefly. "Depending upon how the Demon Summoning App works, I can theorise a server. How it functions on our phone is that it emits a special wave, very similar to a radio wave, whenever we summon demons. This query travels into space, so, such as, if I wish to summon Cerberus, and a response regarding that demon's information is formed. That data then returns to our handsets. The dark matter around is altered and becomes Magnetite, which is used to build proteins for the demon's physical body..."

Yamato opened his eyes. "Following this sequence of events, it is possible to conclude that the server is the Akashic Records."

Naoya's quiet for a moment, before chuckling. "I see. Then we have different servers, because the one in my world is the Tower of Babel, also known as the King's Gate. My program functions in a similar way, though the division of client side and server side actions seems different. The magnetite is helpful, but not directly needed. It does help with making demons stronger, but the main 'fuel', as it were, for the process is emotion."

He turns a corner before continuing. "The app itself executes a compact version of an old demon summoning ritual. It's long and complex but replicable with coding, though the summoner has to defeat the first demon from their program in order to prove enough strength that the demons will actually respond. It effectively creates a doorway, and attaches a subroutine with each demon so that the initial summoning process doesn't have to be repeated each time. You could say it punches a hole between the veil separating our worlds, though it's processed through the King's Gate."

"I see," Yamato replied. "How interesting. Although I admit that I am not privy to the exact details of the DSA, it seems that the differences between ours are glaring. I know that a summoning ritual was digitised for our own use. However, it seems that the Nicaea proxy does most of the heavy lifting in regards to fuel and information sorting."

Yamato did think that Alcor simply used the Akashic Records though. It was the only logical conclusion. If it was Polaris itself, well, the being could easily block the transmissions, couldn't it?

"Is the emotions used for the process from the wielder, or from some sort of 'well'?" Yamato asked suddenly. Emotions were used when Summoning without the app, which Yamato was well versed in. The Hotsuin family had fought the Supernatural for generations, and they certainly didn't have mobile phones a century back.

Naoya grinned at the question. "What place exists where there are millions of people all expressing themselves at the same time, in both a common language and different tongues?"

Yamato actually had to think of this, genuinely stumped, before he vaguely recalled something. "Ah, that would be...the Internet, is it called?" he asked. He was only vaguely aware of its existence, if only because of Nicaea. He did have access to a wide information network, but it was mostly his subordinates that dealt with the heavy lifting of combing the websites and its like. He only read the reports and books in JP's headquarters.

... Naoya paused for a moment and raised his eyebrows. If there were cell phones in his world, then there was likely the Internet. But this boy didn't seem to know much about it. "... Yes."

There was a brief moment of awkward silence. "... You don't have much contact with a majority of the world, do you?"

"If you are asking if I go out into society, the answer is no, I do not," Yamato replied candidly. He had spent the majority of his life underground, so he is literally a hermit of the super level. The only human interaction he has is with his subordinates and...really, he connects more with demons than with people.

After all, he was raised by a supernatural being.

"It's relatively obvious. Is there a reason you don't, or are you simply that afraid of society?"

He may hate most of society himself, but he does see the benefit in some of it... and besides. Children his age shouldn't be locked up like that. He'd experienced that in a few of his lives and he hated it.

There is a pause where Yamato simply frowned.

"I just...don't," he said. "My duties are far too pressing to waste it with the civilians. However," he paused, tilting his head slightly as he murmured; "I did go out once, and the experience was...interesting. I was introduced to something called 'takoyaki'. Have you heard of it?"

"What kind of duti -"

Really? Really? "Yes. I'm quite familiar with it. Most people are."

[drakenguard]

"Hmm...I thought so," Yamato mused, not at all embarrassed about being ignorant of something commonly known. "Civilians come up with the strangest of cuisines. It makes me curious to know what else they have."

Naoya's quiet for a moment before answering.

"I'm going to have to educate you about civilians, aren't I?"

"Hm, perhaps. I can admit that this is a situation I am ignorant of," Yamato said easily. He was a prideful man, but Yamato could admit his ignorance whenever it occurred. He was ignorant of civilians, he was ignorant of a normal life, and this did set him at a slight disadvantage in his current situation.

There was no JP's as back up here, no Hotsuin Family to tell him what he was meant to do and to give him everything he needed. This was true survival of the fittest, he supposed. He would have to learn quickly to survive in his new surroundings.

Perhaps a bit dramatic, but it was true.
