Who: Mitsuru Kirijo and OPEN
Where: All around Cancer and Virgo districts
Summary: Christmas shopping, basically. More like Mitsuru failing at Christmas shopping.
Warnings: NOPE

Christmas was never that popular or had the same sort of sentiments in Japan as the rest of the world. But without school here and the Group's projects to worry about, maybe she can relax. Maybe even treat Christmas the same way as others do.

After all, her friends and SEES deserve something. They've dealt with a lot and maybe a gift or two wouldn't be such a bad idea.

The problem is just a matter of what. A cookware set might be good for Shinjiro, and with Aki's obsession with protein powder, that would be simple enough. But it should also be something special, shouldn't it? And she doesn't exactly have the funds like she used to back home, so not everything was an option.

Why is this harder than it looks?

Ah, a smile! Someone appreciates her humor.

"Me? Of course, of course..." She closes her eyes and gives a confident nod, but only a second later looks a bit uncertain and steps closer. "So, uh, how do you get this yen stuff everybody wants anyway?"

"I think he would like that, personally." Akihiko may not have been the best gifter in the world, but he was pretty sure that something related to cooking was the best bet for Shinjiro. What was wrong with a gift being useful, anyway? Besides, Shinji actually enjoyed cooking, it wasn't just a necessity, even if he didn't seem willing to openly admit it at times.

"I'm a little more stumped when it comes to our leader -- and Minako. She's a new friend to us, but for Shinji, she's been around a long time, and she fought the same battles we did. She deserves something."

"It's...a second opinion. They listen and tell you what they think. Answer questions you're having a hard time with." Asem looks somewhat puzzled, himself. He wasn't expecting anyone to not know what he meant.

Somewhat understands it at least. So long as it isn't humour that's hitting on her, or slang and jargon she doesn't understand, she's good.

Mitsuru isn't quite ready to believe that. Although she isn't quite as good with social cues as Minako might be, but that quick dismissal was a little suspicious. But she won't bring it up now, just keep an eye on Vanellope for now.

"Yen is the name of the currency here. It's what the economy is revolved around and is used to pay for goods and services. Like the candy.

"Typically, it's earned through work. If you find a job and work for a certain amount of hours, you will get paid a specific, set amount in Yen."

She doesn't mind the company, at least. Mitsuru's not trying to imprison her in a dungeon or chase after her, so they're off to a good start. "Kind of like gold coins, I see."

She rubs her chin thoughtfully. "A job, huh. Shouldn't be too hard to find one of those, right? I'll get a job and get lots of yen!"

Her smile is sheepish, a little nervous and it's a foreign look to her. "You're right. It would fit him." She's just a perfectionist, and since Shinji isn't there when they return to Tatsumi Port Island, she especially wants to make it perfect for him.

"That she does, and she is his sister as well." Which still bothers her. Mitsuru's accepted their family relation, but it was still so very weird. "Perhaps something... music related? They may not have the exact same interests, but they do both own MP3 players." Hmm, if they could find their style of headphone here, a spare pair wouldn't hurt.

"It shouldn't. But just as a precaution, your age might be a hindrance. Not everyone is so willing to let children work for them." It's not meant to be a lecture, but she just wants to make sure Vanellope knows what she's getting into. It might be hard.

"But as a start, you could try and ask this shop's owner if he's looking to hire anyone." A candy shop shouldn't be too bad.

She's... kind of clueless with teenage lingo sometimes.

"Oh, I see. Ah, well..." Wouldn't bouncing ideas off of someone else be hard if they didn't know the person she was buying for? She cups her chin in a hand thoughtfully.

"I'm debating on purchasing a gift for a friend. We've been together for a long time now, but never had a reason to celebrate Christmas or any other gift giving holidays. He's a boxer, one of the best that I've seen, and he's extremely dedicated to his training."

"Ah?" Was it obvious? Mitsuru gapes at the other girl for a moment before lowering her hand and crossing her arms over her chest in her normal pose. She really is kind of hopeless at this sort of thing.

"...Yes, actually I am. It's not quite as easy as I thought it would be."

"Like I've got another choice? I'm president of my world, that should look good enough for a job!" Or make her look delusional and/or more like a child. "I'll beee right back..."

And after a brief exchange with the owner, she stomps out with dissatisfied scowl on her face.

"Oh. Hm." Asem ponders that for a moment. "How about a cookbook with high-protein recipes? I'd think he wants to keep his protein intake up."

"That's not a bad idea." It still left him without any real plans as to what to do for her, but he would find something. Unbeknownst to him, Minako would probably think it was awful, but it was the thought that counted, right?

"I feel... kind of bad for her, you know? Where she's from, we were all close friends, but we don't remember her here. That must be hard. It's probably the same for Minato, too, with Shinji. I guess I'd like them both to know that no matter where we come from, we're all still a team. Still friends. Does that make sense?"

It was about as philosophical as he ever got, really.

She nodded. "It's hard to decide what someone else would like, right?"

President? That earns a raised eyebrow from Mitsuru. It must be a childish game of some sort. Yeah, that's it, Vanellope's just playing around.

But it doesn't take a genius to guess what had happened or what the owner said. "I wouldn't worry about it. There are plenty of establishments in the city and one will be able to hire you."

Provided they don't step on any child labour laws.

"That's right! He's crazy not to notice my potential. I learned how to drive in a day! If that's not a quality of a good employee, I don't know what is!"

She had kept the cooking supplies in mind just for Shinjiro, but that didn't sound like a bad idea at all. It certainly would be something different, although who knew if it would be easier to obtain than a pair of boxing gloves.

"He can be quite rigid with his diet. That sounds like an excellent idea. Thank you."

"It is... a difficult situation to be in. One that we would never foresee. I'm quite grateful that we've all had good relations with each other regardless." It would be even more awkward if they had all hated each other over their memories.

"You are making sense though, so don't worry." It's kinda of sweet how philosophical he is being, and how much he does care for them still. She smiles proudly. "We'll remind them that memories and differences don't matter."

"It is. Even with ideas on what might be useful for them, it's hard to determine if they would approve."

Although, she gives the girl another look over. No bags, so she's not shopping or anything, but...

"Have you done any shopping for this holiday yourself?"

Normally, she would agree, nod and help support Vanellope. But something catches her attention instead, and she can't help but stare at the girl because of it.

"You learned how to drive? How old are you?"

"No problem. I'm glad to help." Asem smiled. "There's a bookstore not too far from here, too. Good luck."

"Right. Even if our pasts aren't exactly the same, even if our memories don't always match up, we're still ourselves. We can rebuild those friendships. Maybe better than before," he added with a reserved smile.

"I'm thankful for those different timelines, too, though, confusing as they are. I wouldn't have seen Miki again, otherwise."

"Me? Nine years old! Gonna be celebrating the big one-zero pretty soon." She puffs out her chest proudly.

"Er...no, but I'm not sure if I'm close enough friends with anyone here..." she admits.

She thinks on it further, and suddenly feels uncertain about her decision. "Unless I should buy things for my coworkers...I'm not sure what the tradition is in Japan."

"I will take a look into it." She bows her head gratefully.

"I believe we've met before, but I don't recall your name. I'm Mitsuru Kirijo."

"Maybe..." Her smile is subtle, quiet, but still strong. Thoughts of her father came rushing into her mind. Is he's right that they can make better, stronger relationships here, then he's certainly one of the first.

Mitsuru's smile brightens a bit more at the topic of Miki. She's still unsure of her own opinion on the girl, but so far things were pretty positive. "I'm glad you were able to reunite with her. She certainly is an energetic girl."
