Summary: After gathering answers on her anonymous post, Miyako set out to do some hands on research into a number of “hobbies”...with her brother’s help.

Miyako had received a fair number of answers to her questions. She sorted through her notes, circling and crossing out what’s possible and not possible, and brainstorm some ideas from them. By the end of it, she’s ready to do some research and practice on the field.

But if she’s going to help William be more social, and possibly find an hobby, she would need to practice how to actually...well, help someone.

Out of all the people she knew in Hinoto-Ri, there’s one person she can call upon on. With that thought, she typed up a message and sent it.

Meet me in Cancer District as soon as possible.

After meeting up with Yamato and telling him her plans, Miyako forced her brother to come along and aid her. By aid, it really meant help her figure out how hobbies work and which one might be enjoyable to do.

In other words, Miyako’s more or less dragging her brother around the city to try a number of things. The twins can be found in the tech-filled Cancer District, the general shopping area in Virgo District and the artsy Scorpio District. The hobbies they’re trying out range from simple and normal to, well, less common ones.

(OOC: You can ask for a three way thread (your character -> Miyako -> Yamato, or whichever order we’re comfortable with), or just ask for one of the twins in the subject!)

[The system was for recognising useful and practical contributions. Other than a waste of time, Miyako try to think of other reasons against using it for games. Hm.]

For recognising contributions in useful and practical subjects... [A glance at Fumi's frighteningly high score. Miyako doesn't know what's the normal range for it, but she knows Fumi's score is high.] But I don't see why it should be restricted to it.

[Fumi cracks a smile.]

The merit system was originally conceived as a way of rewarding superior effort and achievement, but there's no reason the same way of thinking can't be applied to a wider range of activities.

[That score just keeps right on ratcheting up.]

In fact, I've found it's a rather useful outlook on life in general. After all, even the pursuit of hobbies and leisure activities can benefit from the same level of dedication we apply to our work.

[Considering that Fumi is from a universe in which the universal human consciousness has been rewired to think this way, it's not all that surprising that this is the way she views the world.]

[Yamato merely sighed. Fumi would do as she would, after all, and Yamato couldn't argue with her logic, even if he still didn't see the use in faffing about with useless activities such as those]

Fine... ah, speaking of hobbies and leisure activities.

[Yamato suddenly pressed his hand against Miyako's lower back, pushing her more towards Fumi]

My sister may benefit from asking you some questions.

[And then during the distraction, he can make his escape!]

[If Yamato thinks he can escape, think again.

But right now, that push surprised Miyako a little, making her give Yamato a brief look. She can speak for herself without that little push, brother.

...Are you planning on escaping?]

Yes, I would like to ask some questions, Kanno.

[Winner: Fumi. But then again, hammering on her point relentlessly until the other person gives up out of sheer frustration is how she wins almost all of her arguments. The other half are won when she employs language the other party doesn't understand, but she knows better than to try that with these two.]

Miyako is researching civilian hobbies, as she apparently has a romantic tryst planned for some poor man. You would be more knowledgeable than I about that, so...

[Subtle scooting this way scoot scoot scoot - man did Yamato just make a joke too?]

[Only for Miyako to step back, turn around and grab Yamato by the scruff of his neck, bad doggie back of his top's collar. No escaping, brother.

She turns her attention back to Fumi.]

I was given the task of helping a man be "active" and a hobby may help.

[His sneaky escape plan had failed, judging by the iron grip on the back of his collar. He tolerated it with stoic dignity. At the mention of a museum - he perked. Oh, that wouldn't be so bad to be dragged into]

I wasn't aware museums were all that romantic.

I'm simply taking him outside for a while.

I suppose I'm in the minority here as to what constitutes an interesting date. What about here, then?

[She briefly raises a hand to gesture around her. The arcade isn't a bad choice, right?]

Make him win you a stuffed animal out of the claw machine.

[A chance for revenge! Even with the hand gripping the back of his shirt, he shoots a smirk at Miyako, his tone gaining a mocking drawl]

Yes... and maybe let him help you win on some of the games here as well.

[Whoops, did Miyako's grip tighten ever so slightly? It must be your imagination.]

I would prefer challenging him on some of them.

[There's quite a number of co-op games, but there's probably PvP ones around.]

There are quite a few first person shooters around. I imagine you'd do well with that.

[And her own game has just come to an end. The top ten list is composed entirely of Fumi's initials and ridiculously high scores.]

...hm, shame the DDR machines are no longer here...it would have been amusing watching you flail on that.

Well, if you're really interested, there's a Para Para Paradise machine in the corner. It's not exactly the same thing, though. In fact, in some ways you might say it's a little more advanced.

[A CHALLENGER HAS APPEARED?]

[Okay, that was new. Yamato frowned at Fumi, eyes narrowed contemplatively]

Dance Dance Revolution, Miyako... [replies absently] What is Para Para Paradise?

[Judging from the name, she can safely assume Dance Dance Revolution is a dancing game.

But it's hard for her to imagine without seeing the machine for herself.

Miyako give Fumi a mildly curious look, waiting for her to explain this Para Para Paradise.]

Instead of pressure sensitive sensors that trip when you step on them with your feet, this game employs an array of five infrared sensors that you trip by waving your arms.

[Yamato scoffs a bit over these words]

And that's more challenging?

More than you'd think. I've heard the kids from the city are rather good at it. If such dregs of society with their inferior capabilities are able to clear most of the songs on the machine, then surely even the ones at the highest difficulty should be simple for a member of the Hotsuin family, don't you think?

[Oh ho ho, he knows what game you're playing Fumi. Yamato just sniffs, turning his nose up slightly in a clear sign of disinterest]

That much is obvious, but I'm not so insecure that I feel a need to prove myself against such plebs. [A huff] It sounds ridiculous, anyway.

[Whether she would go for it on that "date" is another thing.]
