Summary: After gathering answers on her anonymous post, Miyako set out to do some hands on research into a number of “hobbies”...with her brother’s help.
Warnings: N/A

Miyako had received a fair number of answers to her questions. She sorted through her notes, circling and crossing out what’s possible and not possible, and brainstorm some ideas from them. By the end of it, she’s ready to do some research and practice on the field.

But if she’s going to help William be more social, and possibly find an hobby, she would need to practice how to actually...well, help someone.

Out of all the people she knew in Hinoto-Ri, there’s one person she can call upon on. With that thought, she typed up a message and sent it.

Meet me in Cancer District as soon as possible.

After meeting up with Yamato and telling him her plans, Miyako forced her brother to come along and aid her. By aid, it really meant help her figure out how hobbies work and which one might be enjoyable to do.

In other words, Miyako’s more or less dragging her brother around the city to try a number of things. The twins can be found in the tech-filled Cancer District, the general shopping area in Virgo District and the artsy Scorpio District. The hobbies they’re trying out range from simple and normal to, well, less common ones.

(OOC: You can ask for a three way thread (your character -> Miyako -> Yamato, or whichever order we’re comfortable with), or just ask for one of the twins in the subject!)

Well, she's off duty, so it wouldn't hurt to see what the fuss is about. Shepard heads on over, not really raising her voice just yet.]

[If they should happen to poke their heads into the arcade, the Hotsuins will find Fumi sitting there playing a Puzzle Bobble machine and racking up a rather disturbingly high score.]

[Yamato wasn't entirely sold on this whole 'hobby quest' thing that Miyako had dragged him on. He didn't see why Miyako couldn't simply introduce this William to sword fighting or demon summoning (those were hobbies, right), instead of gallivanting about looking at useless civilian stuff instead]

There was a familiar sight-- well, sort of. It was the sight of Daichi goofing off, as he was of course in the arcade, playing on one of those weird snowboard simulator games. It certainly wasn't the real thing, but hey, he was doing pretty good at it for being months out of practice of the real thing!

Unfortunately, for once he's too distracted to notice the presence of not just one, but both Hotsuins.

When Yamato saw Shijima, he automatically gravitated towards him without really thinking about it. Without checking to see if his sister was following him or not, he eventually stopped behind the older man to watch him wobble on this... strange, contraption...

"What are you doing, Shijima?"

[While she would love to teach William swordsmanship or demon summoning, Miyako want to keep her options open. The Velvet Room's DJ may not be inclined for such activities.]

Hands-on activities. [Probably why they're looking at DIY stuff.] Which are more than just "collecting" them.

Anyone with money is free to play this game and challenge my score. Those who don't have the natural talent should practice harder if they want to win. Those who still fall short never deserved to have their initials at the top of the list in the first place. That's the merit system at work, isn't it?

[Fumi smirks just a little, never taking her eyes from the game.]

It didn't take Miyako very long to notice Yamato walking away. After looking away from a driving game, she followed him to see...Shijima? What was Shijima doing on that contraption.

She glanced at the platform he's on, at the screen and then back at Shijima.

"Shijima?"

"Huh--? Oh, hey g-- Aaah--!!"

Daichi turned slightly while he was balancing on the machine to try and wave and greet the two Hotsuins, but this was apparently enough to distract him and throw him off balance when the machine decided to lean too far off to one side. So he stumbled around a minute and grabbed onto one of the rails around him while the game proclaimed 'game over,' though at least he didn't completely fall off!

"Can't you tell? I was playing a game!" Come on surely THAT much was obvious!

"...What are you two doing here anyway?"

Yamato looked slightly amused, crossing his arm over his chest as he smirked. "What's with that sort of question, Shijima? Is it truly that surprising that we're here?"

Although he understood the shock - the last time Yamato was in here had been during Shura's birthday, and he had just fumbled his way through the DDR Machine. It seemed that game was no longer here though, judging by a quick glance around, anyway. That or it had been moved.

[Hands-on... ...Well, considering the nature of the district they were in, maybe it's a game they were looking for? Those seemed like the most fun people could have that didn't just involve collecting them... That, and Galaxy of Fantasy and such other nuances came to mind. At least whatever game they found here wouldn't be as ridiculous...she hopes.

Time to chime in with a suggestion already, she supposes.]

[The system was for recognising useful and practical contributions. Other than a waste of time, Miyako try to think of other reasons against using it for games. Hm.]

For recognising contributions in useful and practical subjects... [A glance at Fumi's frighteningly high score. Miyako doesn't know what's the normal range for it, but she knows Fumi's score is high.] But I don't see why it should be restricted to it.

[Fumi cracks a smile.]

The merit system was originally conceived as a way of rewarding superior effort and achievement, but there's no reason the same way of thinking can't be applied to a wider range of activities.

[That score just keeps right on ratcheting up.]

In fact, I've found it's a rather useful outlook on life in general. After all, even the pursuit of hobbies and leisure activities can benefit from the same level of dedication we apply to our work.

[Considering that Fumi is from a universe in which the universal human consciousness has been rewired to think this way, it's not all that surprising that this is the way she views the world.]

Miyako quirk a small smile at Shijima's reaction. "Do you really wish to know why?"

The reason would be very odd to hear. Miyako dragging her brother along on this small "quest" for some good ideas.

[Yamato half turned, glancing over his shoulder at the newcomer. A game? The only games Yamato knew were the ones he played with Cerberus, and it always ended with something dying or bleeding]

A game?

[Yamato merely sighed. Fumi would do as she would, after all, and Yamato couldn't argue with her logic, even if he still didn't see the use in faffing about with useless activities such as those]

Fine... ah, speaking of hobbies and leisure activities.

[Yamato suddenly pressed his hand against Miyako's lower back, pushing her more towards Fumi]

My sister may benefit from asking you some questions.

[And then during the distraction, he can make his escape!]

"I didn't really peg you two for the type to be anywhere near here. Isn't 'fun' outlawed by Hotsuin rule?" He almost sounded snippy, but his tone and the smile thereafter made it pretty obvious that he was joking. At least in public there were witnesses if they tried to beat the crap out of him.

"Sure! I'm not really doing anything besides hanging out."

Yamato ignored the comment - except to smirk in open amusement about it, because, ah, the Hotsuin version of fun probably shouldn't be discussed aloud - and rested his hand on his hip, tilting his head slightly.

"Miyako seems to have gotten it in her head to try civilian hobbies. I have been captured for her to torture along the way. Take my place, Shijima."

Rescue him. Be his knight in shining armour.

[With a blink, Miyako glances over and see the older woman. Hm, a game...

Most likely not the games Miyako played with.]

[Minako has a bit of a problem. Her problem is that she can't walk past one of those crane games without trying to catch something. Even moreso when the machine is filled with cute looking plush versions of demons and Personas she recognizes.

Right now she's intently focused on making the crane's claw land squarely over the head of a plush Neko Shogun.]

[If Yamato thinks he can escape, think again.

But right now, that push surprised Miyako a little, making her give Yamato a brief look. She can speak for herself without that little push, brother.

...Are you planning on escaping?]

Yes, I would like to ask some questions, Kanno.

Miyako looked at Yamato, and then turned her gaze toward Shijima. She looked him over, as if appraising him.

"'Torture', is it? It's not the worst you experienced, Yamato." Unless you judged this on a different level from their spars. "But I do wonder how well Shijima can contribute."
