The Mighty Obstacle! - Taurus Optional Boss
Who: Kazuya Minegishi
belfire, Hitoshura
demifemme and YOU
Where: Gemini Ward - Near Mictlan
When: 26th April, 13th Hour
Summary: Kazuya and Hitoshura, giving into demonic urges to conquer humanity for Demon Kind. Time to detain the Demon King and Hell's General before Hinoto-Ri is destroyed! Brave heroes, rise up against them and their demonic legion!
Warnings: Lots of violence, demons, and gruesome injuries.
The Gemini district was in absolute chaos.
Well, the entirety of Hinoto-Ri was in chaos - especially as the Taurus Boss had now descended upon the unlucky five of heroes - but Gemini was different. The hostile demonic population of the 13th Hour was swelling at an alarming rate there, spilling over into the neighbouring districts and attacking all those that they came across - no matter their star sign or status. It added more confusion and panic to an already dangerous situation, and those who were not occupied with defeating the crazed Earth Signs, or the bull monsters, attempted to stem the invasion of hostile demons - with varying success.
What was causing this? Was it part of the Zodiac Event? Some other 'Final Boss'?
Well...
In the midst of the chaos, Kazuya and Shura whipped up the local demon horde into a frenzy. Humanity's souls must be polished by the strains of war! Humanity must be made pure by the blaze of blood and fire! Humanity should relinquish control of the city to those born to rule - to lead - the King of Bel and Hell's General! The 13th Hour had caused their demonic side to spiral out of control, and now it seemed like they were going to mount a full on invasion onto Hinoto-Ri!
Who is willing to plunge deep into the mess of demons to face them? Who is brave enough to stand up to the dreaded Atlus Optional Bosses? Who is crazy enough to try and kick some asses?!
Well, that would be you, visitors.
THEME MUSIC!
[[OOC: Alright! It's game time! While we have five heroes dealing with the final boss, there's this optional boss fight open to those who are interested! You can fight and NPC demons, as well as fight against Shura and Kazuya! The name of the game is to detain them in any way possible, even if you have to snap their legs to do it. Don't bother being gentle. They can take whatever abuse you throw their way!
For the list of demons that will be milling about, here is a handy dandy list prepared beforehand! Refer to this when needed. I'll be NPCing some demons when required (such as for those who are GREEN for damage levels), but you're free to NPC some in your tags as well!
If you need contact me or Shura about how a thread's going or something, don't hesitate to PM me on my Kazuya journal, or KivaEmber on plurk!]

Hope you don't mind a Shura!
"HOW DARE YOU!" she bellows in a voice quite unlike her normal one, glaring and charging up for an attack.

They must be protected... The Earth mother...
The next moment, the lantern ghost is spewing flames from its mouth, creating a nigh-impenetrable wall of fire that blocks off a section of the combat field, separating them from the majority of the miscellaneous demon horde.

In contrast to Shura, the King of Bel seemed almost pleased by this turn of events. Flames roaring around him, a somewhat tattered cape snapping in the hot wind, Kazuya stood almost serene, a little ways away from Shura and the masked vigilante. His eyes glinted preternaturally, their gaze almost alien as they stared hungrily at the masked vigilante.
There was something about this challenger - something Kazuya couldn't quite put his finger on. The show of strength was impressive, but he had no doubts that Shura could crush the fool in seconds. Kazuya would normally be content to sit and watch like the King he was, but...
"Shura!" Kazuya suddenly barked, and he lunged into motion, his hips swaggering and limbs moving in a very predatory stalk, "Shuraaaaa~" he trilled, almost sing-songy as he drew up beside her, not flinching at the power roiling off of her in great waves. "Let's team up against this one."

"Be grateful!" she shouted at the masked killer before her. "Your death just might be swift."

His true intentions are made clear when, in a distinct flash of light, he is joined by a demon that appears far more substantial than the ephemeral lantern spirit. Like its master, it stands in unnerving silence... Also like its master, its eyes glow an eerie red, though, of course, the masked man's eyes could not be seen. King and General or not, this demon would take orders only from the one it had served now for upwards of a half year.

Two against two.
The only warning the Earth Hero of Justice gives is a slight nod before the battle begins. In the blink of an eye, the man and his demon have vanished, reappearing behind their enemy a split second later. The former thrusts out a palm towards Shura pulsing with a radiant light, a Holy Strike, as the latter lashes forth indiscriminately with its rod in a Hassohappa. Chochin-obake's contribution to the battle is to open its mouth and snicker gleefully at the chaos as the Flame Wall continues to flicker around them.
For some reason, though, the brunt of the attacks seem to be focused on Shura rather than Kazuya... Maybe it was just that she talked more.

A soft laugh left him as he watched the attacks lash out at Shura, his hands lifting up high above his head, fingers delicately twisting through the air as the air seemed to superheat between his moving palms. It was like a miniature sun was beginning to blossom above his head, dark red with spiralling arcs of fire pulsing from it.
Could Shura resist fire? Oh, Kazuya was sure she'd be fine.
"Ahahah~ hotter, and hotter - that's the way to go!" he crowed, his eyes almost feverish with insanity as the orb between his hands started to crush down into the size of a tennis ball, almost vibrating from the condensed mass.
Then, his wrists snapped in a sharp movement, the miniature sun rocketing forwards with alarming speed. It seemed to be aimed directly at Seiten Taisei, and if it connected - well, what happens to stars when they collapsed?
But Kazuya was already moving, lunging forwards after the miniature sun's fiery wake, grinning wildly and without a care that he was going to get caught in the blast of his own attack. That's what made it fun - and it wouldn't kill him. Hurt, maybe, but...

As she finished her attack, a ball of flames engulfed the battlefield, healing her as Dis absorbed the energy of the blaze and cured the damage from the previous attacks. She stepped back to put some distance between her and her enemies, moving out of Kazuya's way just in time.
PHYS -> Kazuya, Shura
Then the miniature sun zooms in and that is relegated to a question for another day.
Kazuya's aim is true; one didn't become a Demon Lord by missing all of one's attacks even if abysmal hit rates in Shin Megami Tensei games led to the irritating tendency to result in missing when one most couldn't afford it. But perhaps Kazuya did not count on Seiten Taisei's master, who, having taken a defensive stance, was in a position to notice the rather conspicuous supernova and had begun dashing to intercept it the moment the Gaea Rage had concluded. He is partially successful, absorbing the brunt of the attack with his body, but the residual blast is still enough to catch Seiten Taisei in the middle of its leap and send it flying through the air. Before it hits the ground, it vanishes in a theatrical puff of smoke.
...Not the animation generally associated with de-summoning, though.
In the meantime, Hitoshura wasn't the only one on the battlefield who absorbed Fire; the projection of the masked man's soul snickers cheerfully again as a humongous, sticky tongue rolls out of its mouth to give Kazuya a lick of thanks for feeding its flames. This had absolutely no effect except to be kinda gross. The hero doesn't miss a beat as he dashes through the flames to meet the rushing Kazuya partway, fists outstretched to launch a Deathbound. The first few hits are aimed for the Bel King; Shura, though, isn't spared as he whirls about and performs an impressive near-180 degree roundhouse kick to polish off the remaining hits. With each successive strike, the masked hero stands taller and seems to hit harder - Kazuya may recognize this as the restorative effects of Drain Hit.
...
Actually, at this point, the Bel King may begin to wonder why all of these attacks seem so familiar.
((By the way, just so it's easier, maybe we can do the element thing like we do in boss fights. I wasn't quite sure what Gaea Rage or Kazuya's attack were supposed to be, but hopefully the wiki didn't lie to me.))

This was enough to floor him - or maybe it was the force of the powerful Physical attacks smashing into him repeatedly. He was propelled backwards, crashing into the ground and rolling a little ways away, clods of dirt being tossed up in his wake. He groaned. Fuck, his head was spinning. He may resist physical, but that guy hit like a truck - no, a million trucks...
He remained on the floor for a long moment, staring up at the sky before he suddenly lifted his legs up, knees bending towards his chest before he sprung to his feet. He was dusty with dirt, and a bruise was beginning to darken on his cheek, but for the first time since the fight started, Kazuya's gaze seemed clear from its earlier insanity.
"...Atsuro...?"
King of Bel's current status: Dazed.
POWER CHARGE -> Shura
Shura is propelled back by the kick, landing on the ground hard. If the attacks were dampened on Kazuya thanks to his resistance, Shura was hit with the full force of them and dammit, that masked killer hit like the tank Shura prided herself on being.
Jumping back to her feet once her head was cleared, a mere moment after falling, she paid no attention to Kazuya calling out a name, charging for her next attack. She was gonna teach her enemy the true power of the Grand General with a Freikugel.
LIGHT, 60% two of Confusion/Fear/Silence/Egoism -> Kazuya, Shura
A lull in the battle. The masked hero pauses.
Deathbound, of course, required the sacrifice of a significant proportion of his own endurance to be used effectively; whether his momentary hesitation is due to a need to take a breather and allow the effects of Drain Hit to fully restore him or due to any recognition of his own name is difficult to tell. Regardless, there comes a brief moment when his gaze naturally falls upon the stunned Kazuya... And there comes a slight shift of the head - an almost imperceptible nod of acknowledgment? ...Probably not.
With a sudden jerk away, the moment is gone, and the masked hero is darting again towards Shura. There has always been a bizarre sort of paradox surrounding Atsuro, as Kazuya knows well - Despite his complete and utter lack of athleticism, he struck in battle as powerfully as any demon summoner could ever hope to strike. Perhaps the effects of the COMP and its Harmonizing program reflected some degree of fantasy fulfillment in and of itself. Yuzu, who feared battle, preferred to cast magic from a distance; Atsuro, who had always longed to live out his favorite games, gained the strength to fulfill his desires. Regardless of the reason, he had always relied on varying combinations of punches and kicks to complete their battles.
Perhaps his next move, then, comes as a surprise.
He leaps towards Shura - and in an instant, he is caught up in a cloud that rapidly ascends skywards; the nimbus of the Seiten Taisei has reappeared and carries him high. Even at a height, his next actions are fully visible: the masked hero quickly raises a hand to his mask, and with deliberate intent, he slowly slides it to one side, displaying a small portion of his face... An eye, crimson and unseeing, is revealed to his enemies. ...And in the next moment, he speaks a word that dispels any further doubts about his identity.
"Enki."
The cheerful lantern gives Kazuya one more lick as he lies prone on the ground before it vanishes; simultaneously, there appears a figure before the masked man that is doubtlessly familiar to Kazuya. ...Not entirely, though. This would be the first time that Enki Prime had been summoned into existence since its mutation - it is difficult to tell which changes were due to its evolution and which to the effects of the madness. Still, the Soul Persona reflects its master in one way, as it, too, stares down with maddened, red eyes.
Persona and Persona-wielder move as one now as both stretch out their hands. ...Both tongues speak in unison.
"e-nun-e-nun-ba cir kug nam-cub tuku-a-ba nam-cub dnu-dim-mud-da-ke e-ne-ra dug-mu-na-ab..."
...Did Personas talk? Were they supposed to talk? This one was talking. ...Or rather... singing, almost. As it intones the first syllable, two pillars of light slam down from the sky towards Shura and Kazuya. For the briefest of moments, they may, within their minds, glimpse the image of an arid desert...
"kir nu-jal-am ur-mah nu-jal-am ur-gir ur-bar-ra nu-jal-am..."
A flash. The image of throngs of people, like ants along the ground, scuttling about in panic.
"ni tej-ja su zi-zi-i nu-jal-am lu-ululu gaba cu jar nu-tuku..."
A flash. The image of stone, carved and chiseled and cut down until it is heaved into a pile amongst many others.
"ud-ba kur cuburki ha-ma-ziki eme ha-mun ki-en-gi kur gal me nam-nun-na-ka..."
Flash flash flash. The people come together. The stones are placed in position. Like a slideshow, image after image of the construction of... something can be seen. Something... shadowed. Something grotesque. Something humongous and bloated and wrong, filled with pride and arrogance and everything perverse about humanity. And at last, a monstrous stone structure, stretching to the heavens, grotesque in its scale, blasphemous in nature. It stands tall...
"en-ki en he-jal-la en dug-ga zid-da en jectug-ga igi jal kalam-ma-ke mas-su dijir-re-e-ne-ke jectug-ge pad-da en eridugki-ga-ke ka-ba eme i-kur en-na mi-ni-in-jar-ra eme nam-lu-ulu i-me-am-kam-ma-ce en-e kij-gi-a kur-ce du-ur!"
With the last syllable comes the sound of a deafening explosion and a final flash of light - The ziggurat is demolished as it cracks and shatters; so, too, comes the sensation in the mind of something... breaking.
Enki and Atsuro drop back to the ground together as their last words ring together in the air. The holy Incantation of Nudimmud, the song of creation, had been spoken. For the first time in tens of thousands of years...
((His mutation skill comes with a 60% (40% + Ailment Amp) chance of inflicting two of Confusion, Fear, Silence, or Egoism. ...For all this writing, the damage of the skill is just 'small' so. =P))

Even as the chanting's volume rose, even as foreign images flashed through Kazuya's mind, his eyes never left Atsuro's form for an instant. He felt oddly numb and - strangely clear in thought. Right, what was he doing? He was - he had amassed demons because humanity- no, no that wasn't- what was he-
Then it felt like someone struck his mind with a cleaver, and he yelped, coiling down tightly as he gripped his head tightly between his hands. Ow, ow owowowow- son of a bitch! What the hell was Atsuro thinking?! That really hurt-!
"Atsuro!" Kazuya finally howled, launching himself upright. Everything was suddenly clear. Unfortunately clear. Unfortunately painfully and embarrassingly clear oh holy fucking hell what had Kazuya been thinking?! What the hell was he doing?! Demon army and - taking over Hinoto-Ri!? What the fuck, self?! But, shit, no, he had a bigger problem...!
He whirled to frantically search for Shura - the, tattooed chick, shit, if she - where was she? Was she- if she attacked Atsuro, god, she'd turn him into paste in an instant! Kazuya couldn't let that happen - the rest of humanity could go burn for all he cared but if Atsuro-!
Confused, silenced Shura -> FAIL
Nothing happened. Not a single sound came from her throat.
Angered, she tried casting again.
Yurlungur landed on top of her head instead.
Mind (Obnoxious brainwashed babbling, 100% chance of Severe Irritation) > Kazuya, Shura
"Are you done...?"
The voice is Atsuro's, free now from the muffling effects of the mask. And while it might have been easier to accept if his very human voice was altered somehow, perhaps... autotuned or otherwise broadcasting Obviously Possessed, he speaks calmly, almost conversationally.
"She has come. The omen of Venus, with dominion over the Earth and the material world. The Taurus mother. There will be no mercy for those who stand in her way. There will be no quarter for those who destroy her children...
"You will submit."
woops i took a while to reply sorry about that
He clenched his jaw so tight pain flared between his temples, and he prowled over to Atsuro, his movements jerky and unsteady. He wanted to reach out and shake him, or strangle him, or jam his hand right into his stomach and rip everything out.
"Shut up," Kazuya snarled, stopping before Atsuro. He was breathing hard, his eyes narrowed. There was something... wrong with this entire situation. He knew that now. Before he had been drunk off the energy and power coursing through him, but now it was like - like - cold water dumped on his head, giving him brief clarity.
Brief.
His earlier horror at laying siege to Hinoto-Ri was gone, as if it'd never been there. Instead there was bubbling, seething - urgh. Kazuya made a clawing motion, half reaching out to Atsuro, fingers twitching in the space between him and his friend.
"The hell... are you doing? You're not - like that."
What were with the horns? The mask? The prancing around like a caped crusader? He could barely see straight at the moment, let alone ask Atsuro that.
Yay you're back!
As soon as this Confusion wore off, that murderer would be sorry he tried to exorcise her.
Sorry on my end too! Finals and quals (as always)
This is announced as Atsuro carefully peels off the mask completely and tosses it aside. There were two sets of red eyes, now, staring hard at Kazuya; if he had never had the chance to realize how bizarre blood-red irises looked (apart from looking in the mirror), now was his chance.
"You won't hurt her anymore. Any of them. They must be protected..."
The expression on his face is visible now: a dull, empty sort of look. Atsuro's gaze falls on Kazuya's twitching hands, though certainly he had no way of intuiting any of the thoughts running through his ostensibly best friend's hand.
"You won't hurt them..."
no subject
Kazuya paused. Her, her... her... there was someone who, was, possessing his friend, then? The horns were a big giveaway - some, some other demon was possessing his friend and making him one of her guards!? The more Kazuya thought on it, the more he felt hatred and rage beginning to build up inside of him until he was practically quaking with it. That was not allowed! Atsuro was his human and friend! No one was allowed to possess his property!
He looked behind him to see Shura still struggling with the effects of Confusion, and let out a low grunting noise. Probably not her... Kazuya looked back at Atsuro, his expression set frighteningly. Dull, red eyes stared back at him. Not Atsuro's eyes. Kazuya felt his anger supernova.
"Where is she?! Tell me!" Kazuya snarled, reaching out to grab at Atsuro's arm. He even shook him. "Tell me where that bitch is!"
POWER CHARGED FREIKUGEL (PHYS/ALMIGHTY) + PIERCE PASSIVE -> ATSURO
Freed from her confusion, Shura shouted a warning at Kazuya just before firing her focused Freikugel at Atsuro, dead set on killing him.

"?"
Shura's cry, naturally, alerts Atsuro to the impending attack as well; given that Kazuya and Atsuro were screaming in each others' faces at this point, the attack was set on a collision course with both of them. Had Atsuro been in any frame of mind to process this, he would have, perhaps, displayed more of a reaction to being faced with a blast of Almighty; as it is, he merely retreats a few steps while Enki steps forward to bear the brunt of the blast. Spiritual projection of his soul or not, Enki's injuries certainly reflected on Atsuro, but this was still infinitely preferable to being struck directly. Harmonizers only went so far.
no subject
Kazuya jerked forwards, but Atsuro's persona was already surging forwards to meet the Freikugal head on. A split second of thought and Samyaza, Kazuya's very unused Soul persona, burst into being, appearing beside Enki and-
Well, maybe Kazuya had hoped a burden shared was a burden halved, or maybe it was pure, subconscious instinct to try and protect his friend, even in his crazed state. Whatever the reason, Samyaza managed to bully its way into the path of Freikugal - but not enough to push Enki out of the way either.
When the attack hit, Kazuya felt like he'd been kicked by a horse, letting out a loud grunt and doubling over onto his knees, clutching at his stomach with a low, pained groan. Well that... certainly knocked the wind out of his sails.
no subject
"WHAT'RE YOU DOING???" she screamed at Kazuya, betrayed, after the attack was over. Weren't they going to kill the filthy humans to live in a world of demons? Why was he protecting this demon killer???
