What a way to start the first of September...

As they usher the last of you in, you realize that they've been preparing this for quite a while. There is a small table with food on the right, mixed cuisine (although the main theme seems to be Japanese dishes). Some strange computer program appears next to you and seems to be translating what you are saying so those before you understand. Language barriers? Don't be silly!

Most of the men ignore you after that. You are expected to mingle amongst yourselves a bit before the main 'show' starts, it seems....

It's been awhile now... It's been about a year and a half since I first fell into the TV.

It's... a little hard to explain! [Oh, she knows where to start.] ...Do you remember hearing anything about the cases of Apathy Syndrome? It would have been in 2009 and the start of 2010.

It sounds familiar... I might have heard it in passing on the news.

That "disease" was really caused by Shadows. The Dark Hour happened at midnight every night, but usually only Persona-users could even stay awake for it. Everyone else became "transmogrified" into a coffin... [... yeah let's gloss over that morbid image] But there were bigger Shadows, too, and they'd sometimes call people into the Dark Hour. If they weren't rescued in time the Shadows would... "eat" them and then they'd lose their will to live. The media ended up calling it Apathy Syndrome.

[Wow, that... he didn't really have a word for that.]

In Inaba, if you looked at a TV on a rainy night, you would see your 'soul mate'. But it wasn't that; what you really saw on the TV was what people were thinking about. There was even more to it, however; Persona users could enter the TV, and take others with them. If a non-Persona user went in, they would confront the Shadow of their true self.

[He paused a moment; this was probably the longest he's talked in a while.]

If they did not accept themselves, they died.

The Shadow... of yourself? [she never makes it to the Answer so she doesn't know this stuff --] But... what caused that? I know I've never been able to go inside a TV.

I... honestly don't know myself.

[...now that he thinks about it, there's a lot about the TV world that he doesn't know about. Why it exists in the first place is just one of those things.]
