The Observers and the Observed
Who: Everyone interested in .~*STARS*~.
Where: Sagittarius labs; topmost floor.
Summary: The renamed Ophiuchus Observatory has been opened to the public, as well as volunteers willing to scan the heavens. Perhaps the answer to the Zodiac Effect truly does lie within the stars...?
Music: LAW
Warnings: Space, also science.
When the Visitors had first seen the Sagittarius Labs last September, the Anoli attacking made it difficult for many to truly get a grasp for the building itself. They were told that the fourth floor connected to the roof, which had been breached, and that they would have to defend the labs.
That was only mostly true.
The building had been constructed with demon-studying in mind, and was thus nearly impossible to navigate on one's own. Hallways went to nowhere, and space did not behave as one would have liked. The roof, for example, was truly connected to the fourth floor. But the fourth floor was not truly only one of four floors.
The deception could be easily noticed from the roof of the Sagittarius Labs, which now housed the renamed Ophiuchus Observatory. The building was much, much taller than it seemed on the outside- it seemed to tower over all the other buildings in the area. The observatory had been used exclusively for keeping an eye on the moon phases before, but with the increased threat of the Zodiac Effect, it had been upgraded to a much more proper catadioptric telescope. To aid citizens and visitors alike in getting to the observatory without having to undergo complex navigation, a service elevator had been installed to lead right to the domed roof. The machine was simple to use, and did not require any training to use- the only request the labs had was that people report any peculiarities they observed in the night sky.
[OOC: This is a mingle log, so please feel free to thread with one another! If you have any questions, go pester gaakishi on plurk, and I will get back to you ASAP!]

Ah, do you want one? Unless you've already seen it. [How is he to know he's speaking to the original creator? Otonashi holds out one of the astrology document packages.]
no subject
Haa, that thing, huh? I glanced over it when it first came out, but that's about it.
[He goes ahead and takes one, just for the sake of flipping through it quickly, his eyes scanning through each page with an amazing speed.]
-Whoa, it looks pretty full now!
no subject
[Though Otonashi doesn't explicitly show it, he is a little skeptical of the other teenager's speed-reading. Be prepared to have him inquire about your wealth of skill, Hizumi.]
Y-yeah, I was hoping to add more to it, except I... don't know anything about observatories or star watching.
no subject
I wasn't even around when the Scorpio thing happened, so all I knew was what I'd heard about. I guess this document will be handy after all!
[And he does look pretty pleased about that.]
Hmm... Well, the library has at least a few books on the stars. I mean, it's not related to the history of the city or anything, so they haven't mysteriously vanished like the rest of them.
no subject
[All things considered, this is better than nothing! Here, he blinks.]
Ahh, so you-- do you know anything off the top of your head on the city's history? I'm going to pick up some books on it, but it doesn't hurt to ask... [Right? Right?] This is kind of an ongoing study project. Along with the zodiac information.
And information on Philemon... and information on cloning. [Otonashi: super student??]
no subject
Nope. I don't think anyone knows a thing, actually. Even the residents here seem to be clueless on the topic. Weird, huh?
As for Philemon... Well, you could probably look up Carl Jung for information on that guy, but I'm not sure if it's the same one we've run into or not. And I have no idea where you'd even start with cloning.
[And, with a expression of honest - or at least, honest-looking confusion:]
Why cloning, though? I mean, I get why you're looking into all the other stuff, but clones and that kind of thing - it doesn't really have anything to do with the rest of it, does it?
no subject
I'll try the help function for texts on it, then... Someone should know something. [Ah--] Carl... Jung? Is he one of the scientists I've heard about?
[That last question has him looking off and shuffling the papers in his arms.]
It's, uh... it's not for my benefit. Someone on the network was having trouble understanding medical texts on cloning. Cloning and, ah, adverse side-effects.
no subject
As for Jung, he's the founder of analytical psychology. Persona, Shadow, Philemon - all of those words were coined by him. Of course, in his studies they weren't anything like the person and spirits you see around here. Ah, but before you ask, that's all I know, so you're really better off looking it up yourself.
[It's probably good that Otonashi isn't looking directly at him, because there's a certain attentiveness that he can't quite hide. His curiosity is definitely piqued, especially since it's looking like this doesn't actually have anything to do with him. But who else here could have an interest in those subjects...?
Still, he keeps his tone light and clueless. Like he doesn't know a lick about the very subject he wrote his thesis paper on.]
Eeeh, so someone's going around asking about cloning? That stuff gets kind of complicated, doesn't it? Especially if you start getting into side-effects... Isn't that kind of thing difficult to determine unless you really know what you're talking about?
no subject
[His tone suggests he isn't blaming Hizumi. It's slightly skeptical, but mostly, it's nervous. Is there someone--or someones--pulling the strings? ... No puns intended.]
No, I won't ask. That's more than enough. If I have names, then I know what to start looking for and why they're important.
[It's only peripherally that Otonashi catches a glimpse of Hizumi's expression, certainly more alight with interest than usual. The expression isn't quite as subtle, but he refuses to breathe a word about it. At least not yet.]
Yeah, at least one person. But several people are probably interested, since... several people are affected, I think. Side-effects might vary, but from what I've seen, a group of people are all suffering the same ones. [There has been no shortage of posts speaking on the subject of people from "Facility," after all.]
no subject
[A shrug. And then... a look of disbelief.]
So, wait a minute here. Are you saying... Those people aren't actually clones, are they?
[Damn, looks like he needs to start paying more attention to the network after all. How'd he let something like that slip past his notice?]
no subject
[Despite the fact that he had come here for a different reason, he has no problem discussing other important matters as well. And, bonus points for actually capturing Hizumi's interest.
It's not very often Otonashi has an information one-up on him.]
You know the ones I mean, don't you?
no subject
put his face in his hands for a bit.]
...We really are living in a sci-fi. Clones? Seriously?
[...The Facility. He does recall hearing that mentioned a couple of times over the network, but he had either been bored or otherwise uninterested. Weren't they the ones walking around with the collars or something...?
A coma-like side effect of cloning, too. He has to wonder if they'll even be able to function here for long.
Well, it looks like he'll just have to keep an eye out for them...]
no subject
[As it stands, he has nothing but empathy for them. Trying to pick up knowledge on cloning wasn't exactly on his to-do list otherwise, but he can't be happy without trying for them.
It doesn't matter that he's not up front with all of them about it. What matters to him is results.]
no subject
[Of course, it's a different matter entirely if he has evidence that indicates otherwise, but still.]
no subject
[Then again...]
I should... probably learn to do that too.
no subject
But here at least, it's hard to just hear something and say, "that's impossible" knowing just how many possibilities seem to exist out there.
no subject
So, ah... What do you make of this place? The design is... different. [
Totally smooth transition. And it's not that he got confused by the weird layout, nope, never!]no subject
Right? At least they made it easy to find the observatory.
