[Open] A Place We Call Home

Summary: The Battleships Nadesico swoops over the city and lands in the park

[Ruri looked over her controls, the Nadesico was operating as it should, however keeping it running completely on her own was taking its toll on the girl and she decided it was time to put the ship down. Radioing the city to warn of the event before she started to bring it down avoid as much panic as possible she let out a breath.]

"This is Ruri. I'm landing the ship in the park."

[The ship came out of the cloud bank it was hiding in and circled the city slowly twice, scanning the ground for a place that was large enough to accommodate it and wouldn't cause the citizens any worry due to a big battleship sitting there. After the second pass the ship slowly came to settle over the Capricorn Ward, in an unused field that was a ways away from the trains but not unwalkable.

The ground shaking slightly as it landed and steam belched from its exhaust ports, the ramp to the catapults opened, and then a ramp down lowered. Shortly after the small blue haired girl started down the ramp, dwarfed next to the size of the ship.]

Duo, in the middle of his explorations of the city, looked up when a shadow suddenly blotted out the sun and saw a giant spaceship drifting overhead. He was surprised of course, but even more than that he was gleeful. After so many of the "arrivals" here seemed like they were from mindblowingly primitive worlds that didn't even have space travel, any sign of modern technology was a relief.

He changed course towards the only place in Hinoto-Ri a ship that big could land, the Capricorn district. This he had to see in person.

[By the time Duo reaches the ship Ruri is outside of it, inspecting the landing struts and vent system, the Nadesico while big and impressive wasn't EXACTLY designed to land on land.]

Hrm, its not optimal for emergency take off, but once I find a source of water it should be ok.

Heero, Duo decided, probably would have spent a day or two observing the ship and then infiltrated it covertly to get to the main computer and download the its specs and personnel files, possibly knocking several people out in the process

Fortunately for the Nadesico, Duo preferred a more direct approach.

"Hi, nice ship you've got there."

[Ruri peers over and looks at Duo with her usual deadpan.]

Thank you sir. She's not exactly designed for the park, but its the place I call home.

He took a moment to look over the Nadesico.

"She looks like she's not meant to land at all."

Water landings were the prime design, but you are right, atmosphere isn't the best environment for the Nadesico.

"As long as it doesn't fall to pieces under gravity, right?"

She's rated for Jupiter's atmosphere so that's probably not an issue, but yes, falling to pieces here where there isn't a proper dry dock would be problematic.
