Kotoha's pretty well settled in by now, so it's time to go shopping! She's wandering around the shops of Virgo Ward, Arthur in tow to act as a pack mule. In Kotoha's token nod to staying low-profile, the jackal-like Pokemon is wearing a pair of black sunglasses.

Currently, she's in Junes, leafing through a copy of the first Junes Invasion book and giggling.

[Cancer Ward] OPEN
A remnant of Atomic Robo's memories has stuck with Kotoha, and she's interested in exploring the possibilities - which is why she came to Cancer Ward. Currently, she's in a small hobby shop, looking over a selection of airsoft guns while Arthur waits outside, still wearing his sunglasses and loaded down with bags. The Lucario has his arms crossed underneath his chest spike and is leaning against the outside wall of the shop, visibly bored with the entire process of waiting.

[Capricorn Ward] OPEN
Lunchtime sees Kotoha in the Capricorn Plains, enjoying a pre-packaged sandwich and bottle of iced tea she picked up while Solar Logos and Tesla fly overhead in a mock dogfight, creating a brilliant light show - the Volcarona releasing torrents of flame which the Magnezone deflects with shining lasers and jolts of electricity.

It's a few minutes before the 13th Hour, and Kotoha is waiting in front of the JP's Headquarters with what appears to be a sea lion of some kind, one hand resting on the creature's shoulders.

Kotoha spent quite a while picking out the perfect outfit for her date - not as casual as her normal combination of culottes and black stockings, but not super formal either. She's currently smoothing out the plaid skirt and fussing with the hair ribbons while waiting for Ruri to show up at the small park they agreed to meet in.

Kotoha stretches again and leans against the moth.

"I think my favorite part is the training, you know? There's so many variables to keep track of, but then when everything clicks and they start to hit their stride it's just so much fun to watch."

Hm. That's a little different from how I used demons at home, so I don't really know the feeling.

Kotoha tilts her head to one side, setting her ponytails swaying.

"Different how?"

Demons of a certain level will eventually plateau in power. The most efficient way to get more potential out of them is to fuse two of them together to create a new demon with some of the abilities of each one. So I've never spent much time training any individual demon - no longer than strictly necessary, at least.

Kotoha's eyes widen slightly.

"Fusion? Hold on a second..."

With that, she reaches into her bag and starts rummaging through it, eventually drawing out a pair of strange stakes.

"These are the DNA Splicers. They're used to fuse together two specific pokemon into one being."

[Fumi looks closely at the stakes, clearly very interested in this.]

And this works on every type of Pokemon?

Kotoha shakes her head.

"No - like I said, two extremely specific pokemon. Um."

Kotoha adjusts her visor a little as she thinks before launching into an explanation.

"Okay, so. My home country, Unova, was founded by two brothers. They used the power of a legendary pokemon - a titanic dragon that controlled fire, ice, and lightning. Eventually, they turned against each other, and the dragon split into two different pokemon, one that controlled lightning, and the other that controlled fire. Left behind was the husk of the original dragon, that still had the power to control ice."

Kotoha pauses briefly to stare off into the middle distance.

"I'm...kind of the person who possesses both the dragon of lightning, Zekrom, and the dragon of ice, Kyurem. These DNA Splicers let me combine Zekrom and Kyurem back into one being, or divide them again."

And where exactly did you get such a device? It seems strange that something with the specific purpose of combining and separating the DNA of two beings that are basically gods would exist in the first place.

"It was passed down through Gym Leader Drayden's family. He let me keep it after I recovered it from Team Plasma."

So it's ancient technology?

Kotoha nods somberly.

"I think so, yes. It's...not really something there's ever been a need to research, you know?"

Legends seldom manifest themselves in concrete form to be studied in the first place.

Kotoha nods.

"I suppose so. Plus, the level of power needed to face off against them is...kind of beyond the reach of most trainers."

So how did you manage it?

A shrug.

"I'm a genius."

Her tone of voice is perfectly conversational. She's not boasting, just stating a fact.

To tell you the truth, I would have disputed that claim when we first met, but I haven't found any evidence to refute it.

Kotoha flashes a self-deprecating grin.

"Yeah, I didn't make the best first impression, huh?"

You were radiating the cheerful, bouncy, brainless teenager stereotype rather strongly.

[Fumi calls it like she sees it and doesn't pull punches.]

A shrug.

"Well, I actually am cheerful and bouncy, and the 'brainless' bit is at least partially intentional. It makes things easier on me a lot of the time."

A grin.

"It's amazing, how many people convince themselves that an airhead like me can't possibly be the League Champion, or the famous actress Kotoha, or any of my dozen other titles."

Why bother hiding it? Those are all accomplishments to be proud of.

Shrug.

"It's not any fun being an untouchable, gilded superstar. And at least part of my genius is that I'm very, very good at reading people, so it's in my best interests to make sure the people I spend time with aren't intimidated by me."

"I get sympathy headaches around stressed people."

That's never been a problem for me.
