Terra Firma (Newcomer + 13th Hour Log)

▼ All things change, and we change with them (13th hour & arrival log)

Who: Anyone
Where: The entire city
When: Month of July (date your post accordingly!)
Summary: This is both a Newcomer log AND a General 13th hour log
Warnings: That depends who is there. Remember to mark your titles clearly if any warnings need to be issued!

▼ When it is darkest, men see the stars...(13th hour)

The night sky once again turned red as the 13th hour hit the city. By now it was almost too easy to accept it. The moon (or what was of it up there) shone, affecting the monster population in subtle ways.

There had been a relative peace last month, apart from the fairy menace. The city was continuing to rebuild itself, and with the aid of the Visitors, progress was going swiftly.

By now, even the strange events which had happened almost seemed a little too common. The pulls from a new building, or the odd creatures that showed up and increased the population for that hour gave rise to new opportunities; both good and bad.

To keep the population safe, the mayor had asked the city to stay inside and let the city police and Visitors do their job, despite the dividing population on this issue. For the most part, there wouldn't be much resistance.

Each night, the sky was always filled with at least one or two signs of something new, and people were ushered inside buildings as much as possible.

Who knew. Maybe tonight you'd get a little memento from home.

▼ Ode of the Newcomer

You're not in your homeworld anymore. That much is evident. So how do you feel? Happy? Sad? Troubled? A little of all three? No matter what, the memories of a butterfly man named Philemon are fading like a dream; you'll remember the details, but perhaps not everything he has said. What time you showed here seems to be as random as everything else; if you were lucky it was during the day, if not, well the 13th hour was rather dangerous. Fortunately, there was a high chance you'd be spotted quickly.

...hopefully anyway.

There is one word that stays with you, however.

Persona.

So...here to save the city, huh? First you'll need to find out more information. And who knows, maybe a familiar face or two...

▼ Extra Long OOC Blurb

[ This is a dual log, both 13th hour, or newcomer posts.

This will be up to you on what you want to do; start a new post where you can character's name and OPEN and write the days they'll be wandering during the 13th hour.

If you are a newcomer, write OPEN and what hour they arrived. It can be the 13th hour if you want too! You are, of course, not required to reply here. You can do your own independent log if you'd like!

Join other people's post, do some exploration, post them fighting monsters and just have some fun leveling up / interacting! For this log, you can level up persona ONCE PER IC WEEK, but not in the same thread IC-wise. Please do not abuse this. The conditions is that the fighting must happen on different days. The threads should be long enough that an attack is possible and shouldn't just be a few comments just for the sake of leveling up (Ie, we want effort in them, as much as you would with a normal log.).

If you submitted a building and it was accepted, feel free to start a post with them discovering it! The original owners who submitted will be the first to see them, due to a strange pull that made they feel like they NEEDED to go to that area. What they do with this information is up to them; they can contact others in their group, start exploring by themselves or allow the thread to be open for others to come in with them...it's all up to you. That next morning, the government will be coming over to analyze them (that will be done offscreen, however).

FOR THE CREATURES: The creatures have to be in the Bestiary for you to use them. You don't need to use creatures from your own home worlds either, as long as someone's put in a creature in there! Also, make sure your characters could logically take on the creatures you pick let's not have them take down a giant creature when they couldn't normally.]

DON'T FORGET TO TAG WITH YOUR CHARACTER'S NAME PLEASE.

Great. I can't get away from them. Oh, well, if they're faeries I know how to deal with them, definitely. Fae usually love the sound of their own voice, for starters.

Not psychic. This place just seems to be an even worse trouble magnet than where I'm from.

[Her bringing up milk startles him a little - but then, he hasn't had to worry about milk going bad in a long time.]

Uh, right. Sounds good. Though I have no idea how to find out where I'm assigned to an apartment. Or how I got assigned to start with. Seems a little too practical for a god to sort out.
phantom_envoy: (Unamused)

[personal profile] phantom_envoy 2013-07-05 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not so sure about that. These ones just seem to like being as obnoxious as possible.

[Phantom Girl looks slightly disgruntled.]

Don't worry about the housing. Butterfly Guy's lackeys take care of that - They already know you're here, and you'll have already been assigned a room. ...Don't ask me how it works.

We can check the housing list and see if you're on it. This is Pisces District. If you're not here, you're over in Libra. There's a portal in between the two buildings, anyway.

I'd normally fly up to my room, but... we can take the elevator today. C'mon.

[She gestures to a building right down the street.]
angryyoungvamp: (Frown (Son I am disappoint))

[personal profile] angryyoungvamp 2013-07-05 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
... What sort of obnoxious? Not getting into changeling territory, are they?

[He glances up at the building, then nods - and turns back to his bike.]

Meet you over there? I need to find somewhere close to park. I, uh, guess you don't have that problem.

[He's going to have to ask her about that, but that can wait until they're inside. Though she may have noticed him flinch a little at the word "portal".]
phantom_envoy: (Devious)

[personal profile] phantom_envoy 2013-07-05 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Switching all of my clothes with someone else territory. ...That 'someone else' being a guy and also a head taller than me.

[She pauses at his suggestion.]

Sounds good - I'll just put this stuff away first, then. I'll meet you in the lobby in 5.

[With that, she lifts up into the air and gives a wave. If Maugris watches her as she goes, he might notice that rather than searching for an open window or anything, she simply flies straight through the wall of the apartment.]
angryyoungvamp: (Leaning on Hand (Shut up I'm thinking))

[personal profile] angryyoungvamp 2013-07-05 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
[... He knows a way to do that, not that he can himself, but it would make it very hard for her to be carrying groceries.

In any case, he'll just drive his bike down the street to the apartment and find a gap between cars where nobody's likely to hit it backing out. He wonders vaguely if there's a parking garage somewhere he can set something up, but that can wait until he actually knows where he lives. Or what the hell is going on. Still, he's operated with less information in situations nearly as weird before.

He steps into the lobby, looking thoughtful. Libra and Pisces... well, there's obviously twelve of something, because really, why start that theme if you're not going to follow through on it? Still, he'll stop somewhere vaguely out of the way, looking around for... crap, he never caught her name.]
phantom_envoy: (Default)

[personal profile] phantom_envoy 2013-07-05 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I tried to look for you on the list.

[The familiar voice sounds from behind him.]

And then I realized I had no idea who you were.

[It appears she had been thinking something similar; thankfully, even if she hadn't been able to find him, the girl in the getup wouldn't have been too difficult to spot.]

I'm Phantom Girl. Probably should have said that from the start - Welcome to Hinoto-Ri and all of that.
Edited 2013-07-05 01:51 (UTC)
angryyoungvamp: (Little Smile (Heh))

[personal profile] angryyoungvamp 2013-07-05 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
... Phantom Girl? Really? Well, I mean, I can see why...

[He looks hard at her for a moment - in fact he's trying to read her aura, but all it looks like from the outside is him staring very hard somewhere in the vicinity of her head for about a moment. And then it clicks, even without what her aura says, and he looks like he's trying not to laugh.] I should've realized from the costume. You're a superhero, aren't you?

Anyway. I'm Maugris. Though depending on how they do it I might be down on the list as "Landen Heath," even if nobody calls me that.

[Well, normal people do, but he doesn't have a lot of normal people friends. And frankly at this point it doesn't seem like he's likely to run into many normal people at all.]
phantom_envoy: (Satisfied)

[personal profile] phantom_envoy 2013-07-05 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
You know about superheroes? I'm impressed.

[Her smile is genuinely pleased for once, with no shades of sarcasm or condescension. The girl gives a small curtsey.]

Phantom Girl of the Legion of Superheroes of the 31st century, official representative of the planet Bgztl, at your service. A distinct pleasure to make your acquaintance, Maugris.

[Her tone is a bit mockingly formal as she gestures towards the front desk.]

You should go ahead and see if you're listed.
angryyoungvamp: (Leaning on Hand (Shut up I'm thinking))

[personal profile] angryyoungvamp 2013-07-05 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Huh? Well, uh, in general, yeah. I've never met one in real life before, I think my... dimension, I guess, doesn't have any except in fiction.

[He has to try again not to crack a smile at the overly formal introduction, and inclines his head.]

Pleasure's all mine. I've never met an... I guess you'd be an ambassador, before.

[But he nods and heads in the direction of the desk. Much to his chagrin, he is indeed listed under his real name - though what gives him pause is the fact that "Maugris" is still attached to it. That's a little creepy. Either way, though, he gets handed a key, with a number on it.]

Looks like I'm in this building after all. [Good, he's not sure he trusts that portal.] Let's see, 7-03.

Okay, so. I'm in another dimension, in Japan, there's an extra hour full of monsters, and I can get monsters out of my head, and Butterfly Guy's gotten me an apartment already. What else should I know?
phantom_envoy: (Default)

[personal profile] phantom_envoy 2013-07-05 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
...That you're living down the hall from me, apparently.

[Phantom Girl gives a shrug.]

Lots of things! This place brings a new definition to the term 'culture shock' - I'm not exactly an ambassador, but you can bet I've visited a lot of strange places in my day. And none of them had as many bizarre little rules as this place.

Spread rumors will come true, your Zodiac sign can randomly drive you insane, places and monsters from your world can and probably will show up here... You kind of want to take your time with the whole 'settling in' process.

[Her tone shifts to something a tad less capricious as she shakes her head.]

Sorry. Less than like, a half hour here, and I'm dumping all kinds of crazy stuff on you. I know I'm not explaining anything very seriously, but if you dwell on it too much, it kind of makes you want to pack up and go home. And you can do that -- I kind of wanted to. I have enough trouble with my whole, like, universe to spend much time worrying about a city. But it turns out this place is all that's left of this world - or at least, the planet - ...and it could really use the help.
angryyoungvamp: (Upset (What is this. I am sad now.))

[personal profile] angryyoungvamp 2013-07-05 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. Well, I guess knowing someone I can find easily is usually good.

[He frowns a little more when he hears they can expect things from his world here. That is not what he wanted to hear at all. Assuming things from his world have anywhere to go...]

Uh. Don't worry about it. Like I said, I've given people some crazy introductions to the city I lived in. I've run into fae before, and demons. There... might not be anything left of my city - reality was destabilizing when I left. And I don't know what could be left in its place. Might just be a big hole in the middle of Illinois... or might've wiped it clean and left nothing but prairie.

Might be why I ended up here, now - I basically got diverted here instead of where I was trying to get to.
phantom_envoy: (Dismay)

[personal profile] phantom_envoy 2013-07-05 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds... unfortunate.

Um. If it makes you feel much better, I'm pretty sure getting rerouted from destroyed cities isn't the way things usually go around here. ...Maybe it'll be fine.

[A short pause as Phantom Girl arches an eyebrow.]

What kind of city was this, if you don't mind me asking? 20th century Earth with demons?
angryyoungvamp: (Leaning on Hand (Shut up I'm thinking))

[personal profile] angryyoungvamp 2013-07-05 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Early 21st, I guess, but yeah. 2013. And... sort of. Most people don't know about the demons. Or the fae. Or the werewolves. Most of us in the know - including most of them themselves - try to keep it a secret.

That was... kind of why I was yelling about you flying around. That would cause serious issues with the people running the show where I'm from.

... I don't know that there was really any saving the place, if getting rid of the demon I was fighting didn't do it. Reality might've been too damaged to heal properly. But yeah. City called Metatropolis, big university campus in the middle, right in the middle of Illinois. Though that probably doesn't mean much to you, if you don't see enough of Earth to know what Japan is.

[He sighs and slumps his shoulders, shaking his head.] Never mind. You don't need to listen to my nervous breakdown. Okay, so I've got an apartment. Does Butterfly Mask's call ahead get anything else prepared? I mean, I doubt I've got a bank account in Japan in another dimension.

Especially not a post-apocalyptic one. What do you mean, post-apocalyptic, anyway?
phantom_envoy: (Skeptical)

[personal profile] phantom_envoy 2013-07-05 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
...So what you're saying is, your place has some issues.

[Phantom Girl allows a rueful smile.]

I think I know how it goes. When my people first made contact with Earth, they started screaming about ghosts and tried to exorcise us. We decided we would wait a few centuries after that for more, er, rational thinking to evolve. Even humans in the 21st century from what I know - they see aliens, and they're out of their minds.

Metatropolis, huh...? No relation to Metropolis?

I actually have citizenship on Earth, you know - Just. It's changed a lot in 1000 years.

[Abandoning the topic of their relative homes for the moment, she shakes her head.]

They give you money, too. It's all electronic. You swipe this card - [and here she holds out the card she was staring at on the street] - and it comes out of your account. ...Sometimes, though, it's not enough.

As for the apocalypse... the details are a little foggy. There's not much to say about it except that everything outside this town is apparently destroyed or totally overrun with giant monsters or something. There's a barrier around the whole place. Can't get in, can't get out. ...I can't even get through it.
angryyoungvamp: (Planning (Hokay so here's de Earf))

[personal profile] angryyoungvamp 2013-07-05 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's less evolving and more general "people are stupid" issues. Parts of the US, even, they'd probably still try to exorcise you even if you said you were an alien.

Nope. People call it that all the time, I guess the two Ts in a row make it hard to pronounce, but it's not actually called that.

[He cocks his head, looking the card over, and reaches into his pocket. Well, there's his wallet, but it doesn't look like that card's in it.]

So, is that waiting in my room, or is there somewhere I have to go to get it? Doesn't look like I started out with it on me.

[He'll just absorb the description for now.] So basically nobody goes in or out, except popping through dimensions. I guess you can't see through the barrier, either?
phantom_envoy: (Default)

[personal profile] phantom_envoy 2013-07-05 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
People are a little more relaxed about this kind of thing in the 31st century, thankfully. You wouldn't believe the weird powers some species can manifest. But I live in Metropolis. ...New Metropolis, technically. It used to be a city on the east coast of, ah, the United States, and then it sort of... spread. And kept spreading. ...For a thousand years.

[A shrug.]

Check in your room. A lot of your stuff will probably be there already, too. Clothes and other personal belongings. However they do it, they're pretty thorough - I've got one of these costumes for every day of the week.

[Probably not something she should be too proud of.]

The barrier's pretty absolute. I'm considering asking for permission someday to see if there's any possibility of launching some sort of exploratory mission into the Great Unknown. Whatever's out there can't be that much worse than some of the things I've seen in my time.
angryyoungvamp: (Leaning on Hand (Shut up I'm thinking))

[personal profile] angryyoungvamp 2013-07-05 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
... Huh. Pretty sure we don't have a city called Metropolis in my world. Especially not a big one. But I can definitely believe a sprawl like that on the East Coast. So just how much of the planet does it cover now, do you know?

Having stuff here's useful, anyway. [Though it does make him even more nervous. Some of his stuff has things people outside the clan aren't supposed to know about.] We don't get assigned roommates or something, do we?

Good luck, once you get them to let you out there. Uh... so, Butterfly Mask's people run the city? As, like, actual government?
phantom_envoy: (Default)

[personal profile] phantom_envoy 2013-07-05 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
The northeastern half of the continent of North America. So. Already too much. It might as well be its own country; it's the biggest economic and political power on Earth.

You don't get a roommate, no. If you're into privacy, though, you're kind of out of luck. Like I said before, the faeries are into messing around. And well - There's always people like me.

[Phantom Girl casually leans over sticks a leg through a nearby sofa.]

Still, it's not too bad. The commodities are pretty nice for what they ask of us - And I guess it's not fair to call them his lackeys. It's just the human government of this place. I don't think they work directly with Butterfly; they just... appreciate his efforts.
angryyoungvamp: (Eyebrow Raise (Surprised or Incredulous))

[personal profile] angryyoungvamp 2013-07-05 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Okay, don't do any rituals in the apartment unless he knows Phantom Girl's not coming over, check.] I just want to know nobody's going to be pulling the curtains open at the crack of dawn, that's all. And I know a great way to scare away fairies. So, do they turn up in the extra hour, too?

Well, I guess if he's trying to get us to save the world, they would, yeah.
phantom_envoy: (Skeptical)

[personal profile] phantom_envoy 2013-07-05 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
...You might get someone randomly teleporting in for no good reason, but that shouldn't happen very often. You can set up mousetraps in your room if you're worried.

[Still, that was a strange way to phrase a concern about privacy.]

So the monsters that show up in the extra hour are like, the bad ones. And the ones from our worlds. You'll see them roaming around the city in daylight hours sometimes, though - They're usually peaceful, but they're still demons. The faeries I'm talking about are native to this place, and they just spent the last week pranking us for some reason..
angryyoungvamp: (Frown (Son I am disappoint))

[personal profile] angryyoungvamp 2013-07-05 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
[He's mostly worried somebody will turn up and find him looking like he's dead. Or that they'll open the curtains on him and fill him with daylight.]

Uh... huh. The fae where I'm from usually left well enough alone unless I went looking for them, but I'll have to talk to these guys and see what I turn up.

So, these monsters show up in the daytime, but they aren't looking for trouble then? Do they just go crazy at night and randomly attack people or what?
phantom_envoy: (Serious)

[personal profile] phantom_envoy 2013-07-05 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
I think the ones that appear at night are doing just that - Appearing. They're... coming from somewhere, and they're usually interested in causing as much destruction as they can.

[Phantom Girl's expression has grown a bit more grave.]

The ones native to this city behave a lot more like actual people instead of monsters. They still don't have the same moral system as people like you and me, but they're much friendlier.
angryyoungvamp: (Frown (Son I am disappoint))

[personal profile] angryyoungvamp 2013-07-05 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Great. Randomly appearing monsters who are just out to wreck things. Guess that's what they need world-saving people for.

[That is not a happy expression on Maugris's face.]

Well, I'll be happy to do what I can. This Persona thing should help if I can pull it off.
phantom_envoy: (Thoughtful)

[personal profile] phantom_envoy 2013-07-05 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
You're awfully gung-ho.

[She smiles for a brief moment before her glance falls on a nearby clock.]

Er. It's actually getting pretty close to that time. There's a few hours - You should get to your room and sort of... try to settle in. Maybe get to sleep before it starts. The 13th Hour probably isn't something you want to get involved in your first night here.

...

I mean, unless it is. Maybe you like fighting monsters.
angryyoungvamp: (Frown (Son I am disappoint))

[personal profile] angryyoungvamp 2013-07-05 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like fighting much of anything. Especially anything that can talk. But I don't think I'm likely to be able to sleep tonight.

[He sighs and shrugs a little, reaching up like he was fiddling with a tie, though he isn't actually wearing one.]

How late are the government offices and things open, out of curiosity?

[Because if they all shut down at like eight that's going to be a problem - he's pretty sure the sun isn't going to have set by then.]
