Tanabata - [Open City Post]
▼ Evening of the 7th
Where: The entire city
When: July 7th
Summary: The Star Festival
Warnings: That depends who is there. Remember to mark your titles clearly if any warnings need to be issued!
▼ A tale of two lovers...
shaking away in the eaves.
The stars twinkle
on the gold and silver grains of sand.
The five-colour paper strips
I have already written.
The stars twinkle,
they watch us from heaven.
▼ A festival for a growing city
Today, the sun is high in the air, a small wind making the overall experience not too unpleasant. Clearly it's a time for celebration so the lovers may meet again.
In the Capricorn ward, at the edge of the Central Park of Hinoto-Ri, numerous booths have seemingly sprung up overnight. Colorful banners decorate every single tree, and you can spot the faeries fluttering about, the very same ones who caused the Visitors so much trouble up to just a few days prior, helping out by adding their own personal touches to the festival, be that a good thing or a bad thing. Most of the leaves are filled with perfect droplets of dew, reflecting the sun and giving everything a jewel-like appearance.
Even with the harsh life, Hinoto-Ri knew how to make each celebration special. The booths themselves had everything one could hope in such a festival, from mountains of star candy to spinning top toys to booths selling small bambo and basil plants decorated for the occasion. Booth food, as always, was delicious and fresh, and you could attempt to catch goldfish or even turtles if you had money to spare.
Walk around in the more traditional outfits or in your normal clothing, no one is going to complain in this mixture of demonic heritage and human initiative.
Giant streamers were attached to the largest tree trunks and many large bamboo trees had been brought in, covered in paper cranes and wishing paper, blank sheets nearby so you could add your own. In fact, it is encouraged! What wish did you want to write down today?
At night, entire rows of the city are covered in bright lights and laterns, the festival lasting until early morning, despite the 13th hour. Just be careful where you're going, they set up parameters for this, but it just wouldn't be a star festival without viewing them up in the sky, right?
The giant telescope at the astrology center is made public for all those who wish to see the heavenly lights. Just don't linger too long, as others want to get a glimpse too! It's important to share...
...Especially when the fireworks go off later at night! Not only are they absolutely stunning to watch, but there's an evident bit of magic involved in them, as they take on figures and animals, telling the mythological tale of the two lovers, now found.
During the day and through the night, you can hear sounds of the Taiko drums in the various public squares. There are a few groups, each with their own set giving you a listening experience unlike any other.
[Feel free to start your own threads! The festival is open to everyone, day and night and you can do anything

[Why yes he still has not gone back to school since coming to Hinoto-ri why do you ask--]

I've been working at the Caduceus Hospital in Leo. Uh, not like-- a doctor or an orderly or anything. I'm mostly just kind of like a med student, training with the EMTs and stuff. Other than that I've just been hanging out with people and making up for the uh... stealing the fire truck thing.

[He didn't get to work with Otome that much, but the thought does make him feel a little happy!]
Ah, thanks. I think. Kind of hard to go back to normal high school after you live through an alien invasion.

[Fumi shakes her head.]
I'd hardly call the high school here normal.
no subject
[
You know he really needs to learn to stop talking to Fumi.]Is it bad? I think I only went once or twice... Then again, this place is full of demons and Personas and stuff, so I guess it's kind of weird by default. Maybe gym class involves sparring practices.

The important thing to bear in mind is that school isn't meant to be fun or interesting. It serves a purpose, which is to prepare you for the rigors of the workplace so that you can contribute something useful to society.
no subject
Right... meritocratous and all that... [daichi that's not a word] I guess, but it's kind of hard to pay attention when the classes are so boring. What was your high school like?

[The way he crossed his arms and chuckled probably meant that he was completely joking about that.]

[A rare bit of honesty and a glimpse into Fumi's past. She's shared it with Kaito before, but not with Daichi.]

[His previous jovial disposition immediately receded because he, er, kind of felt bad now.]>
U-Uh.. Sorry. I shouldn't have brought it up.

Some people just uh... feel kind of obligated to even if they don't want to-- I mean I've brought up stuff like that on accident, I just didn't want you to feel obligated or anything...
no subject
[So he doesn't need to worry about that.]
And never without good reason. So just in case you need this spelled out for you, I've just shared with you the reason my ideals align so closely with the Chief's - I worked my way to where I am and succeeded entirely on my own merits. No one's opinions exist in a vacuum, Shijima, and they're always informed by life experiences.
[That's about all she's going to say on that matter. Daichi can take this however he likes - an admission that she trusts him, a justification for her harshness in the past, a desire to forge a closer connection with one of the handful of people she knew before coming here... it's Fumi, so it's hard to say. But there it is, all the same.]
So if you've finally decided to do something in this town, don't half-ass it.
[That's what this entire conversation boils down to in the end.]
no subject
Not at the moment though, 'cause right now he was just kind of confused. And a bit taken aback at the sort of (??) subject backtrack.]
Oh-- No way! I mean, of course not! I mean, I'm trying... [A bit of a grunt. What was he trying to say again?] I'm not naturally good at stuff like you guys, but I'm not just gonna sit around and be useless. I already learned my lesson back during the invasion.
So uh, what I mean is-- you can count on me!
no subject
[That seems to be what she was fishing for. Fumi's lips quirk upward in a slight smile.]
Those without natural talent should strive to bridge the gap with hard work. Having both is ideal, of course, but we've both seen firsthand the extent of what's possible when humans really try.
no subject
Yeah, no kidding. I think I'm a little late to dig up any kind of "natural talent," but don't worry-- I'll work hard enough to be just as good as you or Yamato!
...Uh, you know. Eventually.
